  1. The picture is not crisp for me to see details. That aside if there is sufficient width (12.5mm) and depth (1.5mm if memory serves) to take etched w-irons it should easily make up into a usable item. Personally I would remove the buffer housings and have a ~1mm through hole instead. They are likely too fine to clean out nicely for heads/rams.
  2. I believe 603 should out perform cyano in this application.
  3. Citadel; because I can buy it locally, it doesn’t have an odour, covers well and it can be thinned/cleaned with water.
  4. I understand now how the small area that appears to be without ballast at the side of each stretcher bar and the adjacent sleepers is going to be developed. Thank you. I look forward to seeing the results when they are ready. I have a scale hand lever to make too so the linked drawings will probably come in useful too.
  5. What about Fruit Van PGR-87? Thickness hopefully not an issue on something enclosed.
  6. Sorry @Izzy I meant the switches as in switch rails, where the TOU are attached.
  7. There’s some interesting items on your site but I was struggling to work out what was printed and what was not. Clearly only the printed ones might be straightforward to shrink to 2mm without new tooling costs. Watching this space.
  8. I think the pinkish comes from WS ballast but don’t know why. From what I recall of Javis (of 30yrs ago) it is dyed dust. What special treatment is required around the switches? I notice they are deliberately untreated thus far.
  9. That's how I view most things and probably a great many others have no choice in the matter either. Even then I think you are being most unkind to yourself and your abilities .
  10. Yes. Every time I see the photo of my nieces taken within the Olympic village, seeing how small they looked, and to think that they now both finished University and the eldest moved out last year! I would agree the mascots were also alarming.
  11. Is it possible it previously only ever ran such that the central axle was moved away from the potential short? Equally it could be that the smallest amount of wear caused the situation. Whatever it is/was it is pleasing to hear that it is no longer causing any frustration.
  12. I’ve been playing with this as an idea with some thin lead foil, and failed: First the handling destroyed the printing very quickly. This probably not helped by the printer being a laser type. I varnished the transfers before cutting out on a subsequent attempt. The transfer did not adhere well to the foil and came away once trying to put the bends in around the ends of the sheet supported and wagon. The transfer also to broke up on some folds and began disintegrating. I’m considering some self adhesive foil - the kind used for fly tying - on the next attempt in the hope the transfer will stay together better. I’ve found some 0.15-0.2mm thick but nothing thinner. That’s way above scale thickness for me but maybe it will work. I don’t believe it would be possible to fit the sheet made with foil to the wagon and then add the transfer onto it afterwards so the extra stress of bending two materials fixed together is unavoidable with the method.
  13. I wish for a 2mm version 🙁 My wife’s maiden name is Starling. Seems like too good an opportunity.
  14. Good to finally see the layout in the flesh today. If in doubt add another pannier was being taken to the limit when I stopped by with a goods being shunted down the quarry sidings behind a light engine. Probably too much going on to match the reality of an 8 mile branch, but otherwise risk being criticised by others for nothing much happening. The scene is beautifully modelled. I did here someone nearby muttering to another that it must be fine scale.
  15. Thanks Brian, I expect my ties with the area will be severed inside 4 weeks. Might get to see it at Derby though, if I get there.
  16. Time well spent (making and watching). The lower shot of the railmotor running into the scene was particularly enjoyable.
  17. If memory serves billiard tables have the same overall dimensions for the playing area as snooker. Snooker tables would be made up of 4 of those slabs and a pool table would be a single slab based on the dimensions you found.
  18. Is there a web presence for Alan’s layout?
  19. It’s the way I see these things but the first thing I noticed was the missing bit of brake mechanism. Sorry. V5s had central bonnets according to the engineering drawing reproduced in Atkins. They aren’t shown on the diagram but they aren’t shown on the diagram for V12 either and they were built with a pair of louvres and shutters each end.
  20. and that’s with the axle boxes in black, unlike @Donw suggestion that they might also be brown.
  21. Good to see you and Hungerford on Saturday. Always a joy. Loved the videos. Thanks for posting!
  22. Bravo. I note that the etched padlocks do not come with either etched keys or etched bolt-croppers.
  23. Those samples look really good. What axle length is used, and what angle the points? I’m sorely tempted to acquire some but would like to know if any of the 2mm Scale Association wheelsets are a straight swap before I spend more than £60/3 wagon. The time saved needs to be worth the investment for me.
  24. Canvas not shown and/or no note to add canvas = no canvas required or fitted? If vans are showing it and cattle wagons are not that feels conclusive.
