  1. Some great pictures. As always with this branch everything seems to have been done in a back handed way. The demolition of the station buildings and the ripping up of the track just as the fledgling South Devon Railway were discussing with BR about taking over the branch for preservation. We can only wonder what a super preserved line this would have made meandering down the Avon valley. A mainline connection at Brent, 3 intermediate stations and a terminus within a short walk to the ferry to Salcombe. WOW!!!

  2. I love the 14xx conversion. I have two bodies with defunct chassis', I just wish I had the skill the attempt the High Line chassis conversion. Below is my attempt at the coach conversion. Like you, I replaced the truss work as after 32 years or so the plastic was very brittle and broke while trying to clear the battery boxes. I also noted a slight stress fracture in the floor so use a brass sub floor to solder all the underfloor detail to. I found the brake actuating levers a bit to soft and delicate in white metal so I fabricated some from nickle silver etch and brass road, as per the three pictures at the bottom.

I can't wait to see your finished item. Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year.

  3. You could try and use some artists pastels for weathering, as these tend to have a slight oily base to them and would probably stick to smooth surface where chalk powders wouldn't. For the curved tumblehome have you tried using a round former of suitable size and apply heat to the plastic in the form of hot water or steam to persuade it to curve. Or is the printed surface to delecate for this method?

  4. The station has slowed a bit as I need to sort out the valancing for the canopies. I have had to redraw some of the etches to get the minimum line thickness right. So far the current quote is £30. I am struggling to get the canopy skylight right and I am not sure whether I need to get it etched and then solder it together to form a finer look or try and make it from thin styrene strip. As soon as I have some more work done I will post some pictures.

  5. Try the pages below for information. I think you will find it useful.

MODRATEC Useful Data (otherwise known as MUD) is a series of pages containing helpful information particularly relevant to rail modellers. This page tabulates the colours used for levers in mechanical lever frames as specified in the current British Rail Safety & Standards Board - Railway Group Standards guidance notes.

The changes are looking really good. Can't wait to see it running at a show.

  6. Hind site is such a great thing and I wish I had gone the route of etched rooflights. It would have made it so much easier, and I could have got the valances done at the same time. I am still looking to get these as they are distinctive to the branch. Any ideas on how tall they were. Judging by pictures I estimate them to be about 3ft tall. Just need to see what else I might put on the etch with them.
