  1. I hadn't actually realised that it was part of the "Cakebox Challenge", the lack of size hadn't even registered with me. Will have a read of the presentation thread drekly.
  2. Love the picture frame idea, very tempting myself for a similar idea but I hate stealing other people's ideas especially when they've done it better than I'd manage
  3. Many of the Japanese offerings available are quite suitable for modern UK urban settings as well, I've bought a few from Plazajapan and some from Ebay from Outland models. It's easy enough to make some UK signage yourself and brand them up for high street staples. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Outland-Models-Railway-City-Department-Business-Building-Apartment-N-Scale/292456507828?hash=item4417c429b4:m:m7TaYyrw90TtPgvD52e_a7g
  4. Oh dear... a distinct possibility although I'm working on my OO modular at the moment too much to have space to put up boards to think about the tram project. But you never know...
  5. Simple boards are just as useful as complex ones in the overall plan, as you'd be surprised what a difference an extra couple of boards (and 6-8ft of track) between junctions or stations can make. I've made some 45 degree boards, 48" x 16", mark the top edge 5.5" in from each end then carefully cut from that point down to the bottom corner so you end up with a trapezoid shape Frame around it, and you have as near as dammit 22.5 degrees and 18" end faces from which you can work out the centreline and track parallels, and still just get the 36" minimum radius between the ends (I used a Tracksetta). Although not strictly exactly 22.5 degrees x 2, and you wouldn't want to make a complete circuit out of 8 of them without some issues, it's as near as dammit as makes no difference for our purposes. The only way to get more accuracy would be to get them laser cut.
  6. The slippery slope begins That N class and coaches should go nicely with my Lyme Regis branch train. Was that a set you bought? It looks vaguely familiar.
  7. "Modular meet 3 - October 2019 - Berks/Hants - keeping the momentum going" would probably circumvent all but the most pedantic.
  8. Once you have a date set I'll gladly add it to my signature and advertise both. However, you might want to rename this thread, particularly as the word "momentum" may trigger the "no politics" rule
  9. If it's a date I am not working then I'll be more than happy to come along and play, be nice not to be organising something
  10. Just had a notification from Hattons that the NSE snowplough pre-order is being processed...yay!

Yes, there ploughing through their pre orders

It might be a while. Apparently they are snowed under with preorders. Hat, coat....

  11. I don't know if anyone here is into the British Touring Car Championships but I've found out that the same weekend of our event is when it's at Thruxton, a few miles down the road. Sunday tends to be the races proper and saturday the qualifying laps so it's not quite as exciting, but it may make a nice weekend out for those interested.
  12. Hmmm £1000+ of essential dental work, or two new O gauge locos? Decisions, decisions...

Assuming you're using drawer-runners, try loosening the securing screws half a turn each.

I saw a traverser without runners at the weekend, just sliding and it worked fine. No runners. Mine doesn't work.

  14. Is there a specific grey used, or will any mid grey with some weathering do?
  15. Pannier, I believe Bachmann 31-901A? http://www.hattons.co.uk/63445/Bachmann_Branchline_31_901A_Class_57XX_0_6_0_Pannier_Tank_Locomotive_8700_in_GWR_Green_Livery_with_Shirtbutt/StockDetail.aspx Or equivalent, but "shirtbutton" livery only?
  16. Found 2 perfect coaches at the South Coast model show. Next challenge ... loco.
  17. Annoyingly almost every one I seem to be finding online are damaged in some way (missing buffers, paint scratch, marks on roof, glue etc).
  18. What's R4030? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R4030B-G-W-R-Suburban-B-Coach-6904-BRAND-NEW/142864326312?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D52543%26meid%3Db9490805f55b4a2ebb40c6abe3ad2b17%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D9%26sd%3D263831105226%26itm%3D142864326312&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  19. Asked a shop if they stocked code 75. "No, it's rubbish". I disagree.

This is a chemist not a model railway shop.......etc.

    3. brigo

Tennents used to be a chemist that sold model railways, now just model railways

So they were Tennents Extra in those days.

  20. As covered by Ade Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds, doing folk versions of punk songs - however this is a punk version of a folk song, definitely NSFW so you can find it yourself on YouTube. It's worth it, as are their other songs. I love 'em
  21. Is this the old Airfix one you mention? http://www.hattons.co.uk/388329/Airfix_GMR_Great_Model_Railways_54250_PO32_B_Set_coach_in_GWR_brown_and_cream_Pre_owned_Like_new/StockDetail.aspx Do you know the Hornby R number for their version?
  22. Thanks Kris, seems a "B set" was fairly standard but searching "GWR B set" only brings some fairly ancient Dapol and Airfix examples up in OO. Am I right in thinking that a Bachmann 34-076 (x2) is what I need? http://www.hattons.co.uk/10222/Bachmann_Branchline_34_076_Collett_60ft_1st_3rd_brakend_coach_6543_in_GWR_chocolate_cream/StockDetail.aspx
  23. I think it's Collett coaches I need for the period but am unsure what a typical formation would be, possibly a brake third and an all third or third/first? Most of the images I can find are either too late, at an angle where identification isn't easy (typical 3/4 shot focusing on the loco) or simply the fact I have no clue about steam era coaching stock to be able to identify anything. Of course, photography during wartme was also very sparse so it'd be documentary evidence rather than photos that help, and I can't seem to find that either.
  24. Hello, Apologies for what is probably a very easy question to answer but as I am not a steam expert I am having trouble identifying what I would need to run a 'typical' Chard branch train during the second world war. I think I've identified the loco as a 57xx pannier, although there appears to be "GWR", "Great Western Railway" liveries in green as well as a 'wartime black' version, but I'm not sure would be the right one for that era specifically (would prefer a green to a black if possible). As far as coaches, I've ascertained it's far too early for BR Mk 1's, of course - but what would a typical 2-3 carriage formation consist of? Presumably chocolate and cream? Many thanks 'Nut
