  1. Love the Princess Mike, Does your renumbered 42604 have the shorter firebox? Oh, doesn't the carlisle layout need some duchesses!!!! hint hint! Phil
  2. Good to see you back 'in task' What is the book/magazine you have open for reference Phil
  3. Cracking job, until you do it yourself no one has any idea how difficult and fiddly this valve gear is to get it working well. You have done a good job mate. Will you keep the single chimney? It was originally fitted with a double chimney but not for all that long.
  4. Update on the brassmasters version, they are aware There are still a number of outstanding components The mechanism that links to 2 halves of the reversing rod Snifting valves, two supplied but there should be two under the front footplate and two on the external steam pipes I started to use the E piston slide support but in the etch adaption from P4 to EM the width is too narrow, If you are building EM frames you will need to use the P4 version and reduce the width of the frame stretcher. Handle the smokebox with great care it is very fragile before the smokebox door is fitted. The cab ventilator cover is missing Bogie support plate assembly, only one of each version is supplied in the additional etch, there is of course one each side. If you are using the angled version the other one can be adapted. There is a need for an additional lubricator if you are modelling the production series You will need to make a strip to fit between the cab sides and the footplate valance Working on the valve gear at the moment, have a basic running chassis and will post some pictures soon Philbax
  5. Chris at high level will supply the grub screw gear in place of the non grub screw version for an extra £1 I think. I always use grub screws on the gears to make sure I can check the free running of the chassis during construction philbax
  6. the piston valve crosshead is from Brassmasters, they will sell some castings separately if you ask nicely Phil
  7. Has anyone received the CD and the extra etches yet? I would like to know what is contained in the etches and also if any additional castings are included. A bit disappointed in some of the white metal castings as these are the same as the ones cast in Lost wax brass in their other kits (royal scot for instance) and I think for the high price these should be L/W ot W/M, what do others think Happy new year BTW Phil
  8. pointless really, the benefit of NS is that it is stronger then Brass, I don't think plating it is worth the effort, I may be wrong though
  9. I suggested that it would be better in NS to Eileens a year ago, but obviously we would have to wait until the stock was reordered. Mine was in brass but has survived so far
  10. We have the instructions and the rest should follow next week. In the instructions there is mention of part 190 (under the front bogie) seeing that the present tally of part runs up to 176 there is more to come.
  11. I used the bill Bedford coupling rods on mine in place of the brassmasters ones, for some obscure reason, I think they are not the extra 4" long between the centre and rear coupled wheels. In fact I am pretty sure otherwise they would not have been a direct replacement Phil
  12. Just for reference, Alan Gibson used to provide a kit for this Stanier 2-6-0
  13. The long cover on the coach roof is to accommodate air conditioning. This would be one of the coaches built for the blue and silver (or red and gold) coach set for the pre war 1937 Coronation Scot train to run behind the streamlined duchesses. Originally they would have had fairings over the underframes. I think they were stored during war and repainted in standard livery around 1946. They then seam to have gone to North Wales for use on the Manchester - Southport services. A good detailed description is in the illustrated history of LMS coaching stock by Jenkinson & Essery volume 111, published by OPC. I think for your use and period they need to be converted back to standard roof with vents for the Euston services Philbax
  14. I id but don't tell her indoors that I have opened the xmas present!
  15. 6200 or 6201under way from Michael's updated etch. Hi level hornblocks but with a compensation as per Martin Finney, i.e. front driver rocks side to side, rear drivers move on separate arms each side of the gearbox. Non combustion boiler (adapted from Michael's drawings) as this was the state in 1947, with solid axles. It will be in LMS black. Comet tender, Gibson wheels, saving the ultrascale set for the brassmasters model (which I have to wait until xmas day!)
  16. No further update as yet! I am ok at the moment though, busy with the Michael edge latest offering as 6201, nearly a running chassis, and I am not allowed to get near the brassmasters version until xmas day...
  17. Do you know when the ash plant was boxed in, I am aiming for 1947?
  18. From what I can see in photographs of the Ash tower at Camden the hoist would appear to be boxed in. I presume that this was to reduce dust generated when the skip was emptied, in the atmosphere due to the shed close proximity to housing Philbax
  19. Thanks Michael, I remember now you mentioned that, I had forgotten. A question for Tim and Horse, or anyone who has purchased the Brassmasters version. if you look at the sample build on their website, where did the cylinder draincocks come from? All the photographs I have looked through show the standard format of 3 simple cocks and pipes? Have I missed something??
  20. Hey, how is this progressing? I got my second Michael Edge etch from scaleforum. Already done the cylinders for 6200/1 Boiler rolled and firebox shaped up for the non combustion version as this fits my time period. Chassis coming together waiting for some spacesaver hornblocks from Chris gibbon at High Level. I have the brassmasters kit also and there are some spare bits that can be used with Michael's etch. wheels, when I did the princess Victoria I thought I had forgotten to order the wheels from ultrascale, so ordered a set. Came 2 weeks later much to my surprise but then I found out I had ordered them a long time ago and lost the email trace so the second set arrived in due time. Therefore I am in the position of already having the wheels. I found with Michael's etch that the splashers are very close to the ultrascale wheels and moved them out a fraction to ease the problem. this is possible with Michael's version as the strapping around them is a separate tech. with the brassmasters version the footplate and the detail is in an overlay which makes it more difficult. what I have decided for the brassmasters version is to use Gibson wheels. the recommended choice is those made for the GWR King/Castle which do not have a bevelled rim but the crankpin between the spokes. I decided the bevel rim was more important than the crankpin position so went for the 6'6" 22 spoke LSWR ref G4878S. One of the packets was in the old brown colour and Colin said he didn't sell many of them! That might change.
  21. Come and introduce yourself I will be on the test track or the RDMRC stand with the laser cutter
  22. SO now I have to build two more. one of the first two and then another of the main production run, undecided as yet Will be picking up one of Michaels' new etches and of course one of Brassmasters new models, expensive but looks good from the etches on their site. Horse, now you know where t get the bits you want Philbax
