Holy cow this guy is great. I really think there a card stock gene in the Brit population. You guys are masters at this modeling form.

I really like these Gn15 fantasy themes. The cartoonish (kind of steam punk) character makes me chuckle and I'm always in awe of the builders' creativity. Great job can't wait to see the progress.

Every time I look at this thread and at the YouTube video I'm always amazed at the modelling. This is just an outlasting layout!

That chemical complex is amazing. Great modeling.

Wow, I just looked at some of this thread. I don't know how I missed before. There's some spectacular modelling going on here!
I've said it before, you Brits have a real knack at making very realistic scenes. I keep telling friends to look here to get ideas. One day I want to get to the UK so I can attend some shows and see these layouts in person.
I'll be looking in often to see what you continue to post.

Fantastic modeling! Nice to see this theme here in the states.

Excuse the ignorance but this Yank would like to know what the discs are for. Every time I think I'm getting a handle on British railways you guys come up with something I've never noticed before.
Thanks,

I'm finding these types of layouts rather interesting as they are so different from the way we usually model things here in the US. I am interested in how you intend operate the layout. You mentioned a time table scheme. Could you elaborate on how this would work. I look forward to seeing more progress and I'll be trying to figure out the just where the heck all that track goes (you guys sure do model complex sites!!).

I came across this thread for the first time today. As I was reading it I was impressed with the layout and picked up some ideas. Then I got to the post saying that Keith died suddenly. What a real shame, I would have liked to read more from him. I'm glad to hear that the layout survives and is being shown.

Holy smokes, another example of superb modeling. How big is this layout and can I assume its OO scale? Also is it DCC controlled?

Holy Cow this layout looks great. I'm going back to study the pics some more for inspiration.

Gilbert,
Wow that whole passenger complex is really cool. Can't wait to see how things develop.

The shops building is great. I'm going to study the construction carefully and hopefully use some of your techniques.

Whoa, does sitting in the middle like that lead to getting dizzy?? Ah it must because the cars and trucks are on the wrong sides of the road on the bridge!
Seriously, looking good Phil.

We have a colloquialism her in the States - Holy C....p! You guys are like whirling dervishes. I can't believe how far you've come in such a short time period. This is amazing. I'll be looking forward to seeing some more of your magic.
Great job,

Phil,
I've been a bit remiss in taking photos of my N scale layout and for that matter my Fn3 (1:20.3 scale narrow gauge). I'll have to get the camera out.
As far a US sites that are like RMweb I frequent the following-
ModelRailroadForums.com - Powered by vBulletin
The Whistle Post - Model Railroad Forum - Powered by vBulletin
for pics I also go to
RailPictures.Net - The BEST railroad photos on the 'net!
and for large scale stuff
Large Scale Central © - Trains and More
I'm becoming a real fan of UK and European stuff though often I have no clue what the heck I'm looking at. Just starting to get a feel for the UK railway eras but hopelessly lost identifying locomotives. Ah well that's what keeps the hobby fresh, learning new stuff.

Wow the paint/weathering job on the 09019 is spectacular.

Phil,
Thanks for the explanation about terminus station operations. I missed the turnout (points) near the building end of the siding. Your operation makes all sorts of sense and of course your note that the prototypes have multiple power units stationed at each end of the train obviously makes worrying about where the loco is mute. That I've seen on numerous occasions while traveling on continental trains. In the modeling realm it just means that you have to explain to the "boss" that you really do need more locomotives
Ah back to watching how the BJ develops..........

Great looking layout. I have an operational question on UK layouts. It seems to me that many of the stations on these layouts are stub ended. Are the trains backed in to the stations? If the loco is pulled in first then I'm assuming that the train then backs out of the station and is turned somehow if its on a point to point layout. As you see I'm a bit confused. Many of the layouts here in the states have stations that are on double ended sidings so the train can just pull in and then continue on forward as it leaves.
Oh yea I'm pretty sure you will enjoy operating with KD's, though they don't look much like the couplers that are on the trains over your way do they? Besides using the magnetic uncoupler ramps they uncouple well using a pic made from a simple sharpened skewer or dowel. I do this on HO, N and On30 couplers. On large scale (KD #1 scale) I use a flat head screw driver to uncouple. I've found that while the uncoupler ramps are cool and provide neat hands off operation, they never seem to be in quite the right place .
Looking forward to seeing more about this layout.

I just read through this thread and must say I'm impressed. The concept & execution are great. Squeezing in as much you've done while dealing with classes is impressive.
You might want to explore JMRI. It can provide you with operations schemes along with a bunch of other stuff.
Great job, I'll be watching to see what else you do.
