  1. Thanks all for taking the time to reply, this has been very informative. Off the forum I didn't know quite who to ask but thought this would be a good way of starting a discussion, and it has been very helpful.
  2. Hello all, I am looking at the Great Northern Railway line between Bradford and Keighley and have 2 questions about the operation of goods facilities on the route, specifically about how the loco would shunt the stock. The map at the following link shows the two stations in question: https://maps.nls.uk/view/125639998 1) At the terminating Keighley GNR goods station, there is no run-round loop in the sidings. In this instance, would the loco run into a siding and a separate shunter distribute the wagons, or would the loco perform a run round further up the main line? 2) At 'through' stations such as Ingrow East (and Cullingworth, Great Horton etc), how would goods trains access the yard? If the sidings were facing the 'wrong' way, would the loco have to run round before shunting the yard, or would they only access the sidings when facing the right direction? Thanks very much for your time and any insight you can provide.
  3. Loves the new layouts feature on MRL

  4. Couldn't agree more on the marker lights - I would have bought a couple otherwise as the performance of the chassis I had was incredible. They do seem to have sorted it on the royal one but I haven't seen the other end yet and am reluctant to buy before seeing it!
  5. loves the new format - much easier to navigate!

Yes i agree with you there Tom ;)

  6. 1 - Ardlui (by Peter Marriott) 2 - Wells Green 3 - Glenuig All fantastic layouts in their own way. Each helped inspire me to keep going and finish a project!
  7. just got 50 Italian catenary masts for £28 - this means I'll just have to buy some HO models to go with it!

  8. That repair job is looking fantastic - I bet the lining is a b*gger to do though. I'd paint it plain red and stick rather than twist, but my skills are evidently inferior to yours! Hopefully the repair will make the loco even more valued, at least sentimentally. Good work that man.
  9. Theyd be out on theyre backside's with the other local shop's The timing of this comment made me laugh. A lot.
  10. I had a similar problem to this recently, but having both new and old-wheeled versions of Heljan 26 / 27s the problem was common to both. The acceleration was jerky and inconsistent, with a very high starting voltage. The solution came from cleaning out the bogie assemblies of all the grease. It sounds counter-intuitive but has really improved the running of the 26 (I've yet to do it to the new-wheeled 27). Tricky business but well worth the effort. Incidentally, I've also cleaned up the brass wheels on the 26, getting rid of all the dirt that was on them from manufacture. Apparently this is supposed to help polish the wheels as they are run in, but being an impatient type I cleaned it all off. This may have had some impact on the running quality, but the improvement was no-where near as significant as cleaning all that grease out. I might end up running the 26 and 27 with 'hybrid' wheelsets - 2 new axles and 2 brass ones each - as I don't fancy paying £12 inclduing postage for a whole new set if it isn't needed. Cheers guys, hope this helps
  11. I'm hoping to get people to submit photos as well as reviews, but I had wondered if there was any possibility of using the catalogue images to fill the gaps (as used here). I've already had one instance of people using my stuff for their own websites, but as it had been submitted by a reader he didn't know where it had come from. He was happy to take it down, and we're now in regular email contact! Thanks again guys
  12. Ok guys, thanks for your help. I'll see if I can get a reply from Hornby and the like - having looked hard on the website there was nothing, and I wondered if the answer was therefore widely known.
  13. Hello all, Does anyone know whether you are allowed to use product images for Hornby, Bachmann, and other products from the official websites - for example for a review section of your own website? I have seen many other sites that do this but it could be that only retailers are allowed to do so. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
  14. That footbridge looks very much like the one proposed at Altrincham, in Greater Manchester! Should be built in the next 2 years...
  15. Excellent work, a fantastic bit of railway modelling. As others have said, subtle and very believable.
  16. Having just bough this loco yesterday, I am 100% satisfied with the quality of it - it's at least as good as the Clan I have and also doesn't need a coupling on with that frustratingly small plug arrangement. I'm very tempted to get a whole set of these L1s, as they run so smoothly with my Morley controller, and the amount of fine detail is increadible (particularly around the smokebox area). Thoroughly recommended!
  17. Hello HornbyHall - hope you enjoyed Bonfire night and that your layout is coming on. Tom

  18. Fantastic layout, the backscene looks great and really makes the layout have a sense of location. Most of all I love the name - Balvenie is my favourite whisky!
  19. Really impressed with this, must be great fun in the summer with this lot running round the garden. The lack of track cleaning must be a real treat!
  20. Is this the first 'new generation' diesel loco from Dapol (not counting the Pendolino)? I would have thought Dapol were very well placed to adapt this tooling / chassis for a Class 21 or 29, which plenty of people have mentioned in wishlists. If the chassis is as good as the N gauge Class 67 then I think we're in for a treat!
  21. Fantastic little shop, I love the guy who works in there. Prices are a little higher than the boxshifters, but you get the joy of supporting a 'proper' model shop. Thoroughly recommended.
  22. I have just gained access (and permission) to use our loft for a railway room, but up until now I have not been inspired by any type of trackplan. However, seeing yours has made me excited about a new layout, and though it may vary in style I think I'll use your trackplan as a basis. Thanks for the inspiration!
  23. Very pleased about the Sentinel, Chris. I had predicted an industrial shunting loco but had no idea it would be one of these. Is there a ballpark figure for price yet? I know this is subject to change, what with our economy, but any idea would be great. Thanks Tom
  24. Love the Royal 47s, I remember the excitement of seeing that train at Crewe for the first time! Keep the updates coming, the layout's looking very promising.
