  1. Hi. Here's my H0 scale Morning Daylight. The consist is based on an actual train run on a certain day in 1941. Note the articulated cars, some Double and a Triple. Daylight loco with Cab Forward helper and optional EMD E9 Diesel power. Steam locos and cars by Broadway Limited and Diesels by Proto 2000. Colin.
  2. Although the 6-inch OS map shows no tracks south of the road bridge the book from which I quoted has a diagram showing tracks south of the bridge. Looking on Google streetmaps from a location close to the footbridge a tunnel or bridge which looks bricked up can be seen at the left of the canal under the road bridge which was where the line ran south of the bridge to the basin. Perhaps the tracks were removed before the OS map update.
  3. Pontcysylle was the transshipment point for a tramway known as "Ruabon Brook" constructed by the Ellesmere Canal Company from local industries to the canal. Conversion to standard Gauge took place in 1861 which in its new form ran from a loop on the Wrexham Corwen and Shrewsbury GWR line running under the Corwen line at Acrefair. The line was not owned by the GWR but the LNWR. Pontcysllte rail canal traffic stopped before grouping but locos would visit the basin for water. Info from "Forgotten Railways, North and Mid Wales," Rex Christiansen 1976.
  4. Problem solved ! Found the instructions in a TT reference book I have. Very simple and colour coded but the colours seem to have faded badly so going with the wiring diagram. Just got to solder a connector on to one of the wires and then test it. Colin.
  5. Hi. I have a T145 motorised turntable but have no instructions. Can anyone help with a wiring diagram please. Looks pretty simple but I don't want to damage it ! Regards Colin.
  6. An unusual choice of prototype for a European manufacturer was the Wesa 3-unit 8500 HP Union pacific Gas Turbine. Here is one I bought some years ago in its original box, 13mm gauge and working with two motors. The lead unit was also available as a single unit listed as a Diesel which it was as the Turbine was in the second unit but tey never ran as a single unit. There was only one American item of rolling stock made which was a Vista dome car but as the Turbine was a freight loco one was stuck for anything to haul in that gauge unless the European bogie wagons were used with the buffers removed. This is listed in the 1962 ABC price list at £18-10s-0d - the equivalent set then to the Swiss set in the above video was £10-10s-0d so very expensive for the time, I started my Apprenticeship in 1965 at £ 8 per week ! Regards, Colin
  7. I have an Electrolube pen which I have used for many years with no problems. I see that Peco list an electrolube ( now powerlube ) lubricant so it seems to be OK.
  8. The "Triang TT Instruction and Information Manual " that I have states "Remember to oil the axle bearings of all rolling stock " I have a test track on a "Nobo" board using T50 curves and T55/51 straights so I tried out my Castle class from set TCX ( the only loco I could lay my hands on easily ) with the two coaches and it hauled them round the tight circuit easily, I then added a couple more bogie coaches with only slight slipping. When 3 trucks and a guards van were added the slipping was bad ! I tested all axles by hand before testing but all were free and have been in store for some time and I have never lubricated them I then found and tried my Britannia "Boadicea which hauled the lot with no problem even though the wheels were sparking slightly. I can see no problem in oiling the axles as recommended in the instruction book which may help.
  9. Hi Benjy. I still have the layout but not the car which I sold some years ago after I retired and found I was only doing 200 miles or less a year in it. For interest it was a Reliant Scimitar Sabre of which only about 40 were built. Styled by the Aston Martin/Lagonda stylist the late William Towns it was fitted wit a Nissan 1.8 litre turbo engine ( Original) and was pretty fast but with no ABS or traction control was interesting to drive in the wet ! The layout has not been used for some time but is fully functional and tested regularly. At one time the layout would not power up until I remembered that I had fitted "Panic Buttons" to the Lenz system and one of them was operated and latched. Doh !!! Hermosa tunnel will have to be modified as we had a new boiler fitted a couple of years ago and the condensate drain pipe gets in the way of the tunnel roof. One day when my son has finished restoring his car and removes the parts that prevent folding down I will run it again as I have bought a few more items of locos and rolling stock which I would like to see running other than on my test plank. Colin
  10. Hi. Coincidentally I also have a layout in H0 scale based on Dale Junction ! It was built in about 2008 and occupies my garage but folds to allow storage of a car ( which I no longer have ). I have not used it for some time due partly to my youngest son using the space for a rolling restoration on his Chevvy Blazer. Here are a few photos taken some time ago. The control panel showing layout. Unit at top with lights is an infra red turnout controller so that I can switch turnouts or set routes from anywhere in the room with the hand controller seen on the left. Push buttons also control turnouts A Lenz DCC system is used for control. Veranda turbine leaving track 3 at Dale junction PFE west at Dale Junction, about to enter Hermosa tunnel ( distance obviously compressed !) U50 and GPs at Dale Junction Turbine about to enter Hermosa Tunnel with what I think was a Big Boy heading east. E-Unit and GP passing on 3-track system Colin.
  11. I have a couple of these. One I have had for many years was destroyed by my children pushing the loco along ! I bought a replacement a few years ago and have just measured the back to back. The wheels seem to easily slide on the axles but measuring on two of the axles plus the pony truck wheels measured equally at 7.2 MM. Measuring some other H0e items ( Eggerbahn- wagons, Original Minitrains- wagons modern Minitrains- loco and Jouef - decauville coach ) measured at about 7.5 MM but these probably have thinner flanges. The newer loco I have is not a very good runner even after tinkering with it so good luck with your restoration. Hope this helps. Colin
  12. Glad to help. I have found another photo of the platforms in later days with ex-LMS 4F passing through in Peter Baumgartner's book "Memories of the Swad Loop" I cycled near to Ashby station only last week on a circular ride which covered Willesley woods where the original Ticknall Tramway ended, Swannington incline and Coalville town. A very pleasant ride. Colin
  13. Hi. In Nelson Twells 1985 book " A pictorial record of the Leicester and Burton Branch Railway " there are three photos of the main platforms plus one of the Derby branch platform. There are a couple of copies of the book on a certain sales site named after a South American River at less than £8 if you are interested. Trent Valley Publications ISBN 0 948131 04 7 An interesting book anyway. Hope this helps. Colin.
  14. I think this has been covered before. Coalville, Leics, Belvoir road with line to Snibston Mine now made into a footpath. Photo taken this morning on a bike ride which also included the Swannington Incline also previously mentioned. Colin
  15. Hi John. I used to make prototype PCBs many years ago before I retired. The method is to layout the circuit using etch-resist pens or etch resist transfers ( applied like letraset ) on the copper coated board and then etch away the copper which is exposed using Ferric Chloride solution ( nasty stuff ). The holes for the components can then be drilled using dremel or pin chuck, the board cleaned up to remove the etch resist with solvent or abrasive rubber. Kits are available for the beginner ,here is one I found. https://cpc.farnell.com/kemo-electronic/a200/circuit-board-etching-kit/dp/PC01609?mckv=sSd8wYVYM_dc|pcrid|224692157647|kword||match||plid||slid||product|PC01609|pgrid|47391249736|ptaid|pla-819046969435|&CMP=KNC-GUK-CPC-SHOPPING&s_kwcid=AL!5616!3!224692157647!!!network}!819046969435!&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt8u2hqSu8AIVk2DmCh3kGQmpEAQYASABEgJnVPD_BwE Hope this helps.
  16. Incline winding house as far as I can remember Dinorwic quarries, Llanberis Tracks leading to Incline head. Same location as above. Can I sneak this one in ? Not railway but abandoned transport track. Derby Trolley bus turning circle on Chellaston road. Now a car park !
  17. Sorry about that - photo got mixed up with my Cleethorpes photos - new Cleethorpes photo inserted instead. Incidentally, I live not far from Sutton park and rode on the railway there often so it was nice to see the stock again on my visit to Cleethorpes.
  18. A couple more. I think Whaley Bridge was mentioned earlier. This is the bridge at the bottom of the incline. Southwold harbour branch remains
  19. Going through my photos I found these which may be of interest. Another Snailbeach view under the old bridge towards the engine shed Snailbeach mine entrance Snailbeach shed with preserved wagon
  20. Wells harbour railway "Edmund Hannay" Note donkey pump with flywheel on footplate. Now a couple of Fairbourne shots in 15 inch gauge days Katie or Sian seen from the (possibly) Cambrian Coast Express I can't remember the name of this loco, Possibly ex- Dudley Zoo ? And another Cleethorpes view.
  21. Cliffe Hill mineral railway Leicestershire. Not much showing but looks like the road it had just been surfaced when I took the photo. Ashover Quarry Derbyshire, Point on bridge in about 1995.
  22. Rye & Camber railway 2014 Not sure this counts, Dungeness fisherman's railway 2014 Cleethorpes about 2013.
  23. Littlehampton Miniature Railway in steam days Some locos at Littlehampton of smaller gauge on the same day as above. Date not known. An internal combustion "thing" at Littlehampton
