  1. . I note, from a BBC London news programme, that today is the 160th anniversary of the London Underground. So where are the anniversary models ? 😀 .
  2. . The Guardian has an article on The Games Workshop and Hornby Hobbies results for the last quarter of 2022 ; https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jan/10/games-workshop-Hornby-sales-warhammer This is the relent extract for Hornby ; "The Scalextric and Airfix maker Hornby said sales between 1 October and 31 December, including the key Christmas period, were higher than the same period in 2021. As a result, sales for the financial year so far are ahead of last year by 6%. “This has been driven by better availability of stock, price increases, and investment in e-commerce platforms and digital media,” it said. “However, these sales figures are behind budget due to the challenging consumer economic climate and will impact our full-year figures. Order book remains strong ahead of our 2023 product range releases.” Hornby is launching a new product range this month, including a new control system for trains that uses Bluetooth technology to connect to phones or tablets. The company is forecasting a “modest underlying loss before tax” for the year to the end of March."
  3. . 2 points ; 1: The only thing that "annoys" me is the bringing forward of the release time to 7:00 AM. !0:00 AM was "civilised" and I could settle down with a cup of tea and relax. 2: A suggest (please ignore is you don't agree) - with the overall, and individual item threads, couldn't the second post be along the lines of "Would those people who do not think that "there is nothing here for me, please press "like" to this post and not jam up this thread with pointless comments" Happy tomorrow. .
  4. . This is rather a pointless thread. The same old moans. .
  5. . Wow ! I honestly didn't know that there were that many minor livery changes - that's a little bit mad. So, maybe one of the smaller suppliers with a Chinese factory who likes paint masks 😇 .
  6. . Wow that is amusing. Cherry-picking and convoluted arguments galore. I can agree that simple numbers don't tell the whole story, and as the poll team representative says the poll can only be a guide to manufacturers, but twisting things won't help manufacturers' choices. Manufacturers need to make money by selling genuinely popular models - and which ever they choose, I wish them luck. .
  7. . Yes a U (or even an ex-LBSCR K 2-6-0 - both high polling) would be useful for Southern mixed traffic trains. Contrary to all the "noise" from other parties the Southern Region still has a lot of popular locos that need to be produced - that is one of the great advantages of these polls. ( However, I will be amazed if the three "Hornby's" (original class 70's - two types) will be produced, however many votes they get. ) .
  8. . Thanks very much - and a great way to while away a rather pointless bank holiday. I can't see anything wrong with any of the list from 186 and upwards (except no. 4 which has such limited opportunity for usage - but each to their own, who says I have any idea ?) .
  9. . When did aluminium beer kegs start being used ? ( I thought it was the late 60's/early 70's ??? ) And was it wooden barrels before that, or was there an interim choice ? .
  10. . Strange the lack of "Southern" subjects being suggested, considering where Hornby is based. PLEASE, no more Merchant Navies, or WC/BoB's. 4-COR, 4-SUB, or LBSCR/SR/S. Region K-class 2-6-0s would all be useful and popular. .
  11. . Am I correct that this year's announcement will be on Christmas Day, not early January ??? Likewise, any idea what time ? Thanks. .
  12. . Thanks for all the work, and the effort involved in the analysis - greatly appreciated. Even though I read the introduction/guide properly, I found it interesting that actually filling in the form concentrated my mind in an interesting way. A lot fewer locos than I'd imagined I'd vote for, but more coaches and odd wagons than I thought I would. Everyone, please vote for a new BR 16 ton mineral wagon and a 4-COR (plus whatever else you want, of course). .
  13. . Well, out of the blue Hattons have e-mailed me that the "missing" SECR coach has appeared (actual story more complicated - it appeared, then disappeared, and then Hattons got me a lit version (!!!)) - still at least one of my "missing" coaches has appeared. Helps for Christmas. 🎅 .
  14. . I lost out on two coaches from my first deliveries (despite having a very early pre-order in) and this time around I lost out on one SECR coach ( again an early pre-order) ! It is rather disappointing that Hattons cannot seem to get the correct numbers of coaches delivered. .
  15. . There is only one solution . . . Magnehesian ! ! ! ( Plus steel rails. ) After all, Hornby seem to like old time Tri-ang. .
  16. . I agree - much better. ( And, hopefully, a 4-SUB to follow. ) .
  17. . One of the versions is "Heljan 1420 Class 14 Train pack with D9553 in BR green and four 'Dogfish' wagons in BR black". I'm not interested in the Class 14, but would like some more "Dogfish" wagons - any chance of them being released separately ? .
  18. . " The 12:00 terminating at this station is running late ...."
  19. . Errrrrrr . . . . . Yes, they are. They move themselves - they are "locomotive". .
  20. . When will the range of track be expanded to include OHE and third rail options ? 🤣 🤣 🤣 ( See below at my signature bar for just a few options for OO locos. ) .
  21. . Still no Southern Region announced - so no need for me to think about joining in - I hope they will still be offering the discounts by the time the SR ones are announced. The past few posts have raised, with me, the issue of things like separate fixed handrails, etc... I would like to see some "real" models before ordering. .
  22. . Having thought about it for a couple of hours I can't say I have changed my poor impression of the launch. They are, obviously, keeping the prices down. I think they should have gone for ballasted track (see, for instance, Roco track) and all locos only available as DCC versions (preferably all with sound). Yes, more expensive, but "the future" - as near authentic "plug and play" as we are likely to get. Also, the launch lacked close-up photos/videos of what could be achieved scenically. Still, I can still see the attractions for families living in small homes. .
  23. . Nothing Southern Region ! Very disappointing. I will leave any sensible comment until I see how the smaller tank engines work on the track. SK made such a thing of small layouts, even along window sills (!) means that tank engines will be important. Good luck to Hornby, but I will wait. P.S. SK seems to think that Hornby will run out of new OO subjects in the next 7 years, or so ! I have lots of suggestions just from the Southern. Sad to see such an attitude. .
