Be careful of these kits, I have built the first of a few LMS dia 1974 minerals, a few months ago when they forst came out, can I find it?, can I heckers like, I've got the empty packet and instructions, but the wagon, gone.

I reckon Matt has developed a Del Boy type homing pigeon operation, you build a kit and it transmogrifies into a kit back at Chivers hq!!

    RC966 - N GAUGE BR BLUE SPOT FISH VAN KIT - £10 + p&p

    https://www.chiversfinelines.co.uk/shop/p/rc966-n-gauge-br-blue-spot-fish-van-kit

This kit is designed to produce a model of the BR Dia 800 Blue Spot Fish Van after it had been fitted with roller bearings in 1957.

A complete article about BR Fish Vans was published in British Railway Modelling for December 2000.

They were numbered in the E87000- E87499 series, but only 275 were fitted with roller bearings for the dedicated blue spot trains. After the decline of fish traffic they were reclassified as SPV or NRV for express parcels service.

The kit requires 6.2mm wheels and Peco Couplings to Complete.

I had thought that this [and the outwardly identical D1973 - the different diagrams are for different materials] was likely to be very difficult to do as a plastic kit, so your news was very interesting, but turned out to be rather disappointing when I looked at your website. I don't know if you realised it or not, but the side stanchions are "I" beams, and the corner plates are flat to the ends, but spaced off the sides. A shame, I feel, as I too like and have built several of your kits, but, for me, this would take too much work to achieve an accurate model.

Yes we fully understand what you mean, we looked at various methods to achieve what you say, none we were happy with.

What you need is a Dia1973 to start from…

    Some prototype inspiration https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/lmsmineral/e36f7de11

https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/lmsmineral/e3b8d4141 and various other photos including them in Internal use by NCB.

These are an interesting wagon because, perhaps uniquely, they have a lot of protection which permits the wagon to be put on its side on the tipplers used for the large loco coal loaders that were popular on the LMS.

    Paul

PS Perhaps the CEGB Tipplers could use some of the parts for these wagons. Built by the same manufacturer's but lacking any doors https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/cegbtippler

Very interesting! Looks like just the dia1974 without doors to me. The other looks like dia1973 without doors too!

Maybe a silly question, Did the CEGB wagons run on the mainline?

  7. Although we seem like we are quite, we are burning the midnight oil working on many new projects including brand new 4mm standard gauge kits, below is a pre-production moulding, and nope we aren't telling you what it is, yet....

I'm under an intense apprenticeship with the man himself (Roger Chivers) learning everything he knows in the art of model kit manufacture. 40+ years of knowledge is a heck of a lot to absorb, 😀, but we are making progress.

Huge thank you to everyone of our customers who purchases our products from the kit range, we couldn't keep doing this without you. Eventually I'll get the new website finished.....but for now back to the machines!

    Laters.

Very interested in this. Any chance of a 'what's in the box' picture?

Unfortunately I forgot to take one before I finished packing them all up.

Matt, if you stopped beggaring about with that honking great lump of iron in the workshop and concentrated on the 4mm kits?!!

    Laterzzzzz.

    Mike.

Haha, well the good news is the big lumps of iron are on hold at the moment, I've got a full schedule on the kits so no free time to play, I mean build the steam engine!

Sorry we missed the chance to give this a plug in the LBSCR Modellers' Digest, just released.

    Best wishes

Sorry Eric, I should have  given you the heads up. I came back from a long weekend away and just put my head down and got them done. I'm hoping to be able to keep them in stock now.

Great to hear news of a new 4mm standard gauge wagon kit!  Any hints as to what it is?!

    It's a wagon kit. 😉

LMS sole wagon? Given I am just about start scratchbuilding one😀.

Have at least one of every standard gauge wagon in your range and they are all wonderful. So very happy to see the range being increased

I will put your suggestion into the mix 👍.

Oh yes we will be expanding the range, I'm getting a full on intense apprenticeship from the man himself.

    NEWS.. Kind of....

There are currently no news updates on the NER/LNER CCT's but they are reaching the top of the list, in between all the other projects and NEW products we are currently working on.

We are currently working on tooling for a new 4mm standard gauge wagon and will be the next release from us all going well. Followed by another 009 kit. We have a large list of possible new kits in various scales and gauges.

Mr Finelines himself, is currently working on various projects for his own model railway and is trying out new technologies, which could enter service within Chivers Finelines itself.

    All the best,

    Matt Chivers
