'Hobbiton End' by bridgiesimon is exactly that! :D

  3. Is there any way to upload photos to an existing blog entry without having it show up as a newly published post?

I think that the website recognises any blog editing activity and then puts it to the top of the list, I've not found a way around it.

  4. I think that the idiots who design home self-assembly electric fans and write their instructions should be locked away for life in the Tower of London, given only itchy dungarees to wear and forced to listen to Barry Manilow for the duration of their sentances.

  5. This second image is the reverse angle looking from Gilby Rd bridge toward the A180 flyover. A small scenic stretch as per the prototype between two natural scenic breaks. The staging area is just large enough to take freight trains that are just large enough.

hi mate, you might want to put these into a thread as these status updates are gone after a day or so. It's a bit like shouting in a crowded marketplace.

  6. I've just about had it with aerosol cans of Railmatch and Precision paints gumming up, despite my having cleaned them after previous use and stored them carefully in accordance with manufacturers recommendations. They still gum up.

Yep Railmatch cans absolutely useless. I even tried getting spare nozzles but it was the feed pipe itself which was clogging up!

  7. Why the heck is anyone thinking about a return of imperial measurements for shops?

Anyone else think this is a recipe for profiteering on customers by mixing styles on price per.

Maybe not, but it must be treated with respect, especially when dealing with large quantities of the stuff.

True but everyone sees this when they log in and barely anyone uses the status updates most of the time. Plus new thread discovery is a lot harder in the new site template.
Although now you've responded people will likely think the question has been answered and won't bother

  14. Even as Captain Tom lay in hospital fighting for life, a group of young men, who probably owe their existence to men like him, gathered together, unlawfully, to watch a football match endangering themselves and their families.
They knew they were doing wrong, with the arrival of the police they jumped over a balcony and ran away.
Cowardly, selfishly, no doubt alive with 'woke' sentiments and an over inflated belief in their own self entitlement, they deserve nothing but derision and scorn.

'Woke' used as an adjective in informal slang means 'alert to injustice in society, especially racism.'

I do not think that applies here.

  15. I've always wanted to have a model layout so I think it's about time I made one. I shall be making Ffarquhar from The Rev. W. Awdry's never built extension to his NWR layout. I'll be updating as I progress!

Sounds good, you might want to start a thread in the layouts section as this is very much a 'here today, gone tomorrow' status update section.

  16. I was taking a couple of friends in Oxfordshire to lunch when local white van man ran into the back of my car at a junction. Drivable home with caution but almost certainly a write off and friends still in Banbury A&E being checked out.

  17. Does anyone know where I can get declas that read

    "W & S" in gold for oo gauge? About 1.5 - 2 MM high.

And where can i get (Dark Grey) replacement piston rods for the Honrby W4 Peckett?

(I need them for a thing - Its classified)

      Corbs

The rods should be easy enough to paint I would think.

I'm planning to make some Wellsworth and Suddery transfers at some point in the next few months once I get up and running ;)

  18. If you havent the slightest interest in cars it becomes very difficult to buy one.  I end up wandering around dealers forecourts, taking photographs of anything that takes my fancy then Googling it to read the test reports.  Do that for long enough and you come to the conclusion that there isnt a car on the market worth buying!

    1. Corbs

      Corbs

People ask me for car advice because I am 'into cars', but I always say the same thing:
-Don't ever sign up to a finance deal
-Buy a kia or a hyundai - they have long warranties and more optional extras for less money. They are now what Japanese cars were in the 1990s - undesirable to car snobs but great value for money

-Don't buy a diesel because they have so many bits on them to make them less polluting that they break down after a few years and cost a fortune

-Buy something a year or two old, not new. New cars lose a ton of cash as soon as you drive them away. That money could be spent on model railways. The 2 year old car will do the same job as the brand new one.

  19. New podcast episode is out, my merry modelling mates...

  20. Not too much activity of late on the workbench as I concentrated on some wiring improvements to the layout. I did however look to complete the detailing of another 20t brake van.

This actually started life as an Airfix kit being picked up second hand at a model show some years ago for a couple of quid. I decided I wanted to model one of the vans converted for running with air braked wagons and featuring the distinctive yellow panels...just for some variety.

The wagon has had glazing added to the windows, been re-wheeled with metal wheels, had moulded handrails removed and replaced with wire handrails, and Kadee 146 couplings added, as well as a full repaint and weathering. Railtec transfers finish the model.

Here's the completed model on the layout within the consist of a departmental train hauled by 97408.

Next up on the workbench is the Hornby class 60 which represents the very end of my modelling time frame:

    443.jpg.a6cf690feb1db08d825cdfbd14e2c974.jpg

It will be backdated to represent a new 60021 'Pen y Ghent' in Railfreight Metals livery. I'm hoping the factory applied 'Transrail' logos will remove without the need for a full or partial repaint.

Hi mate, this all looks great but you might want to post this in a thread rather than a status update, as this will be pushed down the statuses - this bit is more like twitter than a forum and it would be a shame to lose your updates.

To be honest 'have a nice day/how are you' I have been hearing my whole life and just equate to 'hello/goodbye' rather than an actual enquiry or wish.
