  1. Can hardly wait to see the EP of the Caprotti one!
  2. There was an article in The Engineer (though I don't have a copy) that showed a GCR wagon with the same conversion and described as being an ammunition locker. The Engineer, Dec 12, 1919, pages 581 and 590 regarding the work of the Gorton and Dunkinfield Workshops of the Great Central Railway where 3267 10 ton wagons were converted for use overseas: The company adapted, by affixing screw couplings and other fittings suitable for continental use, 2767 10-ton wagons, and a further 500 wagons, similarly adapted, were fitted with hinge tops-as shown in figure 88, page 590. These wagons were used overseas for conveying ammunition. Thirty-five goods brakes with a tare of 11 tons 11 cwt., were built for use in Egypt. Not contemporary, but IIRC in the GWR wagons bible the O17s are explicitly described as being ammunition lockers.
  3. This has been discussed elsewhere, but just to clear it up - Stephen's original description of a 'pill box' as a locker wagon for ammunition etc. is the correct one. I am 90% sure the article describing pill box wagons as being for delivering concrete sections is erroneous and the source comes from the 1920s when memories may have started to blur. The sources closer to the event confirm 'pill box' as meaning 'like a box of pills' with lids rather than for concrete emplacements.
  4. Hi folks, the shop is on a summer holiday for a couple of months and will return in the Autumn, hopefully with some brand new items, I just needed a break to allow more time for personal projects :) Many thanks Corbs
  5. After a week in Lisbon recently I was inspired to edit some clips into bite-sized nuggets of information and have a little series of them on my youtube channel. Each one is no longer than 60 seconds. I hope they are of interest! Ep1 - The Rail Grinder Ep2 - Three Wheel Corner
  6. It might be a silly question but is the battery charged?
  7. As far as I know the chassis design of the Peak is rather different to the Co-Bo.
  8. Yep, on 'our' AA21 it has the openable windows.
  9. Roof off, scalpel blade to break the seal on the sander rod (which is in a slot) and popped it out, then manipulated the interior wall (and gently pushed the side walls outward) to break the bonds and slide it out. Two razor saw cuts, then scored the top of the door with the scalpel (in hindsight it could likely have all been done more neatly with the scalpel by scoring the door frame). Slid the wall back in, glued the sanding rod back on, then cleaned up the door itself , painted the edges and glued it in (all with Roket card glue).
  10. Haha true! On the BHR we operate with the door latched open (so that we have direct line-of-sight into the passenger wagons) so I wanted to mimic it, although don't think I'm brave enough to open up the central rear shutter.... yet.
  11. Pugbashing is not just for OO. Steve Price on Facebook has posted photos of this stunning conversion of a G scale 'James'. https://www.facebook.com/groups/814561258654535/media
  12. One of the things I really like about HZD is that if you die, it actually puts you back to a save point and everything that happened since that point is forgotten. I love the Assassins Creed games but hate their save system where most of the time, everything up to the point you died 'stays happened' even if you respawn.
  13. El bumperoonie, just want the cost of postage really as I hate throwing things away.
  14. haha, both come to think of it! Did Jedi last year and really liked it although I did find the lack of fast-travel once you were 'on world' a bit tiring. Currently playing HZD and trying not to fall in to the trap of trying to 100% it on the first go as I did with Jedi.
  15. Awesome, I am part way through the first one having been recommended it, very much enjoying it.
  16. Tears rolling down my face as I write this. I never got to meet Neil in person but he was a lovely person to talk to online and I am such a fan of his modelling. I'm really happy that he got to see his creation in print. He will be missed.
  17. We are chuffed to bits at Michael Russell's build of our 16" Manning Wardle saddle tank kit in this month's issue of British Railway Modelling! Michael has gone the extra mile with this version, adding the reversing rod, modifying the wheels and even including DCC firebox glow. AND open cab windows, the absolute madman.
  18. Maybe it's a sign of my age but I can't read MICA B without the voice in my head putting it to the theme tune of 'Byker Grove'.
  19. Was so lovely to talk to so many fellow rmwebbers and see great models, plus no public, what a luxury! 😄 Thanks so much to @NHY 581 and the team. Here are some choice pics.
