  1. Quick question if anyone can help on the same topic? I think 56036 was the first to be painted in LL at Stratford. At the time this was described as an experimental livery. When Doncaster outshopped 56084 onwards and the refurbished 50's starting with 50023 Howe is was described as slightly revised livery. I have spent 45 years trying to work out how the slightly revised version differed. Anyone know?
  2. Thank you for this. The whole 6 part series is worth a watch and remember this line is just about still open. The freight traffic as none stop in the early 80's and bringing Eastern locos over the Pennines after Woodhead closed. My memory was not 100%, I thought it was next to the railway line where the new steps going up are.
  3. Well done my friend. I have just spent a good 50 mins on yotube and cracked this one. I need to walk the dog and not sure how to upload You tube DJ Jonny visits Banq Quay - Part 2. I started on part 6 luckily found it on 2 at around 7:50. The whole lot looks a good watch . 300 years of industry in a stones through of each over. The Mersey is a very wide shallow stretch of water until Warrington. Maybe we could spin each town off into a location thread.
  4. That is so funny and bang on truth. I was aged 2 and a half, born on Sankey Street, White Harte Hotel, NYE 1968 that my Gran parents ran at the time. The Pattern Arms opposite BQ was Greenhall Whitleys premier establishment. Granddad used to walk me over in the afternoon. Remember pubs closing in the afternoon? to watch the trains. I have no idea what I saw, it was just post steam. However, one of my first scribbles was obviously a 40. Anyway, I bought a bottle of wine to watch England tonight then got stuck into this enigma and I cant find anything either. However, I have been informed is was called Factory Lane. Give me a few hours to research more.
  5. Think that is the underbridge to the transporter bridge? 5 years since I went down there and you could see evidence of a track or trackbed leading up to it. The road bridge I am thinking about was underneath the station. I saw it my own eyes although I was very, very young.
  6. Both ran under BQ and not through the same hole. Wonder what happened to it
  7. Does Wigan NW or Warrington BQ count? I have revisited my post to answer one part of my question. Forget wigan. However, i am sure there is a road bridge under BQ.
  8. Perfect to annoy the rivet counters and none modelers! Thats my inspiration to replicate the Maglev test track
  9. I cant decide whether you where lucky to see a single class 20 heading a train or unlucky not to see them in pairs! how did that happen?
  10. Thats what we were told after bunking Eastfield 1981 and one idiot (aged 12) left his school rucksack containing his grandads expensive binoculars on the floor at a bus stop. Guess what the postman delivered two days later? Yes, the rucksack and the only thing missing was my sandwiches with a note explaining they had been thrown away to stop them going mouldy and ruining the contents of the rucksack. Sometimes the more dodgy the area the more ethics the people have living there.
  11. I am half through this thread and its answered a lot of question in my head. Excellent information from @Station Master. The word "We have to pace ourselves". Me made sit back and actually think for 10 minutes your first multiple unit is going to a pacer"
  12. I had the same problem when I sold off most off my collection that I would never use. They will hold the money back for 10 to 14 days until you have sold 10 items. However, they are really helpful and if you phone them. I was pleasantly surprised that if you request a call back that they call you within a few minutes and if you have sent it tracked and received feedback they will release the money early. Give them a call.
  13. Thank you for the reply SS Growing up in the NW, Ashford was one one the very few places I did not get to. Maybe it got moved to Ashford, if its the same boiler you are thinking about. I will try and find my note books over the weekend. Can anyone else add anything?
  14. I once worked for a overnight 24 hour delivery company surprisingly called Nexday Limited based in Northampton. The last MD parachuted in before going bust was John Liderdale who resurfaced at Track 29 which I believe was the privatised version of Redstar. Happy to be corrected
