Following on from Roger's posts above, some more track laying this week took the main running lines past the shed location and close to the next board join. We have a pause while we build a British Finescale single slip to locate in the up local line - you can see the gap opposite the coach in the picture below. We also took the opportunity start to map out the board edge for the viewing side - the board edges here will be cut to a curve so we are using the OS map enlargement overlaid to decide the scenic edge/board cut line.- 39 replies

Scalespeed Controller - Info/Repair/Upgrade
nigcuberail replied to nigcuberail's topic in Electrics (non-DCC)
Was it really 11 years ago that I started the thread???? Kevin, good for you to have resurected it - so Scalespeed ad from 1966 - I was 11!! I shelved the project to 'refurb' the existing contoller and set it aside with a view to using the old faceplate/control arm with a new modern control circuit under 'the hood'. So many other projects have taken priority over the years, but one day!! 😁 -

And more progress with track laying on Board 2 & Board 3. Moving further down the board and managed to get the scissors down along with the up/down crossover. This part is crucial being very close to the board join, so much checking, aligning & crossing fingers!!- 39 replies

More progress with track laying on Board 2 & Board 3. Track is Peco Bullhead Code 75 (SL-108F) & we are experimenting with DCC Concepts Bullhead Phospor Bronze joiners (LTK-RJ) and Pre-etched Sleepers 1.0mm (ESP-TRACK1.0) at joints. Further track laying this week will take the rails down to the handbuilt (Roger Sunderland) scissors on the down platform roads. So track laying momentum is building 😊 -
Impressed with the oil drum too!!! 😀

Summer Update - Final Overlaying the OS map enlargement to get a feeling for boundaries & building alignment. The overall roof runs from the double dotted line across the tracks in the foreground to the line by Steve's left hand - approx. 6 foot!! AND FINALLY - THE FIRST TRACK IS LAID 😁- 39 replies

Summer Update - Part II Some further photos showing the 'King' board (fitted with 4 legs) with track plan, a very 'proud' looking Steve (Bournemouth must have won!) and work in progress by Simon & Roger. . -

Summer Update Part I As mentioned earlier by Roger, summer has meant members on holidays, attending shows and doing summer 'stuff' in gardens etc.. so the quoted: has been delayed slightly. However, the first two boards are indeed assembled, topped and fitted with their legs. They are made using the tried & tested 'Model Railway Solutions' methods and sized/shaped to ensure no joins conflict with pointwork as mentioned earlier by Roger. You will see that one long edge is left unfinished - once all the main boards are assembed and joined, the board edges will be cut to form a smooth continuous curve, and the closing side members fitted. This will be the viewing side. -
Looking for Model Railway Journal Number 4 - Winter 1985 Alternatively just a copy of the 'Small Suppliers Forum' article reviewing the Train Tronics turntable would be much appreciated. Edit - request now fulfilled thanks to RMweb members efforts

Further to this part of the thread dealing with 3D printing of the roof ironwork, some work has been done on a 'test' span by Steve in the group. This has involved removing all the print support 'sprue', cleaning up and assembling the components. In addition Steve has airbrush painted the unit with a secret recipe 'special brew' which includes some Humbrol Metalcote. So the above has turned into this: Some close-ups showing the intricate detail: These photos are a bit cruel but this is only a sample to check assembly and test paint finish. Below is part of the real thing today, so the model item stands up very well - you can even count the rivets!!- 39 replies

Having seen this 'in the flesh' the other evening I can vouch for what a 'creation' it is!! Truly impressive in its build quality and a monster in length - it will be a key feature of the track layout. -
