  1. @F-UnitMad one place I worked at had casual visits from the police (for a chat and brew) and they mentioned about one car park that used to get police vans visiting. However the van was ok just the roof light clusters would hit the roof of the car park. Once whilst following a truck in Leeds it decided to get stuck under a rail bridge, taller trailer than the tractor unit.
  2. You may need to check your spam settings and folder with your email provider. Settings on a web based version could be preventing your mail app seeing the message.
  3. Many who own stock that they deem is surplus will offer it to others. Quite a few locations need to get rid of some items if they have plans for what will occupy the space. Others will say they need to sell so that they have some money to keep their activities going, this might be done by selling to another group or individual or heaven forbid the scrap man. Unfortunately there are some groups/individuals who are getting too old to be doing what they intended many years ago so without new blood assisting them groups will make awkward decisions.
  4. Think that 2011 was one of my last overnight trips in Europe by train. I caught the Amsterdam to Moscow service so that I could get to Warsaw from the west. Personally I have difficulty getting a comfortable night and have since then always had a night in a hotel. I prefer to stretch legs find food and a beer plus a chance for a decent sleep and shower. OBB network is good idea if I wanted to get that bit further by going overnight. However sometimes an early start and a high speed journey can get you there not much later.
  5. Unless a preserved unit can be used on the main line or dragged on a preserved railway there seems very little chance of the groups getting any form of passenger revenue. This seems to stop a few groups. The 504 at Bury saw some class 25 haulage at one time and now seems to be rusting - there is a website for the 504 but seems like nowt much has happened for many years. The only other scenario is a dry warm museum that they can be stuffed and mounted in where public can view them.
  6. @Mike_Walker yes I think that we have more computer savvy developers for some things in the UK. We have Real Time Trains, Tracksy and even when looking up old lines National Library of Scotland maps
  7. I'm heading over the pond in May to Florida. I have a list of heritage RR's to visit whilst in the state (got a copy of Trains with a list for each state) - got hire car and sat nav. Is there an American equivalent to Real Time Trains? I have done numerous web searches and have not found what I'm looking for. The nearest thing was Google tracking Amtrack trains but like others I'd like to chase some freight and short lines.
  8. I bet that Bachmann are making a few donations as there seem to be quite a variety now. Of the 9 are there any that have the same livery? I saw 001 today and that has GBRF blue but with Union Jack and Star spangled banner, wiki indicated that 3, 6 & 8 are standard without the flags. So potentially 6 different liveries!
  9. A possible, musical chair, is that the TPE 68 & Mk5s go to Chiltern. The Chiltern 68's replace 67's on the TfW services.
  10. @MJI it's ok saying you have saved money on commuting, but that has your employer paid you for heating, lighting your home office and the associated health and safety and insurance that you need to factor in
  11. Presumably if Chiltern were to take on the Mk5s they would want to include the buffet in one unless they feel that a trolley is a better option.
  12. Some videos I watched the other day on this product:- see and the overall viewpoint
  13. There are way too many places that key board warriors can make such negative comments implying that the hobby is dying. What they don't realise is that just like the real railway things change. There are similar comments being expressed in USA. What I feel is that many of the brick and mortar shops are closing or going to online as since the pandemic many have realised that they can get even more stuff from a number of specialist retailers Had an interesting conversation the other week with an employment agency. Many IT jobs became WFH during the pandemic and afterwards hybrid working ie a few days in the office and rest WFH. They were looking for someone to be onsite every day and indicated that many are wanting WFH or hybrid. It is possible that quite a large proportion have become introverts.
  14. Also see them on https://railsofsheffield.com/collections/Bachmann-oo-class-69
  15. Interestingly the first I knew about the transfer was reading this page Unless the email has gone into spam, which I check frequently, I have not had any communication concerning the Genesis coaches I have/had on order. Looking at my Rails pre orders they are not showing so one wonders if this has yet to happen.
  16. Catalogue just arrived page 123/4 lists 4 OO 69001 69002 69003 69005
  17. Having seen the comments that the Barclay, P and a wagon are going to Accurascale along with a transfer of the orders one wonders if this was an idea behind not cancelling these and the coaches. I wonder if the coaches will be announced as moving to maker X. We have seen it in the past where models are moved or taken over by another company.
  18. @PortLineParker You might want to try the NLS maps as these can often show up track plans at various scales and ages https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17.1&lat=51.29544&lon=-2.41695&layers=168&right=ESRIWorld
  19. @IRC never say never. It might be one that is still under wraps.
  20. @47606odin If you have access to a colour printer you can resize images of signs - this is often easier done by pasting into word and using the ruler so that you know the printed dimension. At least these use mm and can then scale 1' to 4mm
  21. From the farm gates that I have seen on many preserved lines they tend to be as you say farm wooden 5 bar gates opening into the fields. Suspect that the railway is liable to provide the fencing/walls and gates but maintained by local farmer to the standard deemed adequate to the railway. Just look at the way modern fences have appeared alongside lines in recent times along with H&S notices on gates.
  22. Most of the overall details are listed in Steam Beano https://gb.readly.com/magazines/steam-railway/2024-02-01/65b44c6a8354d721caf1b3b0
  23. I think that the Welsh NG items announced in the USA catalogue will make the way into the UK catalogue see the video they produced a few days ago
  24. Funding from many bodies seems to go in phases as they often have a specific slant needed to be included in the application. Many years ago HLF needed you to include Educational within the criterion. I was staying in a B&B before visiting a railway and was invited to join with some of the working members who mentioned they had failed on a HLF grant. I mentioned the then in comment about education and a few weeks later heard they had got a grant. Many projects even though they are worthy don't tick the right box for funding.
  25. Show content is always good. I feel that the venue needs flattening and then rebuilding afresh to get away from the many levels and randomness of buildings. Someone I was chatting to said the site looks like a kids has gone through their collection of Lego and erected buildings with whatever they could find and in no coherent style.
