  1. @alexl102 Some of the Ardsley ones ran on the E&WYUR, my locale is within the Rhubarb triangle.
  2. There are many more railways that are not shouting loudly that are struggling. A comment I heard is that there are quite a few demographic groups who have had income raised far more than their expenditures so are in a position to continue with the luxuries such as days out to preserved railways. Many people are like me and when working have living expenses that even betwixt jobs can still partake of model trains and days out based upon funds saved for later. Railways need to attract this demographic.
  3. I spy another loco that has operated at the Middleton in preservation, before @rapidoandy was a member. Might look at an Ardsley based one even though the GNR is a gem to behold.
  4. Interesting to look at the NLS maps of fairly recent and historic showing what was there previously. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=18.8&lat=53.49456&lon=-1.41869&layers=168&right=ESRIWorld @009 micro modeller I presume the "Rail college" is a management type speak for these types of trackwork courses. Some often just have a Portacabin for theory based sessions but in the main they are interested in getting people skilled that can then possibly join Network Rail.
  5. Elsecar before the pandemic had one of the training providers doing some track work. There seems to be a few of these companies doing this type of training. For other railways that have them doing track work they pay the railway and carry out the less glamorous task of sorting out rail joints etc that gives the railway volunteers chance to spend time sorting out other things.
  6. @papagolfjuliet yes I looked it up and thought the same as you about the loco being a replica of the Dodd's 0-4-2 I have yet to find a breakdown of the £25M. The loco will easily eat up £1M. If it's council money then I'd expect them to spend locally so that it keeps locals employed. After visiting the Barnsley model show this weekend I intend to have a look at the line to see how much vegetation there is on the line.
  7. Looks like Barnsley council have had consultants come up with a £25M idea involving rebuilding the site and a new 1849 steam loco. No mention of where they will attempt to get the funds from nor how or who would operate the railway. For more info see https://www.elsecar-heritage.com/forging-ahead
  8. @MikeParkin65Decoder arranged slightly differently and I can confirm that the body is sitting pretty.
  9. @MikeParkin65 Yes I'm aware of the tender body and it's on the snag list 😎 You will probably be surprised as to which DCC sound is fitted. I could leave you guessing, but it's a Hornby J36 TTS. At some time I might change it
  10. As mentioned earlier, I was only buying one when seen in a shop. So here is one after having a crew and sound fitting
  11. An hour to go I'd expect that there will be something else NRM/Rails exclusive announced at Warley as this seems to be a time to make such news public unless it's an item being worked upon by another maker.
  12. 78022 at Keighley yesterday showing how the none ferrous pipework has lost it's "shine" Also a video I took of her a short while ago
  13. As there is at least one based in Ireland one wonders if there will be an Irish exclusive.
  14. Anyone would think that there are drivers trying to get in as many obscure routes as possible. This seems to go all around the houses https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R07761/2023-10-17/detailed
  15. Knowing the the GCR and GNR also ran a joint line in West Yorkshire I think that you could feasibly run GNR stock in your world All the northern based companies are so interlinked on both sides of the Pennines that nearly anything could be run on these services. Often looking at the photos of private owner wagons can be interesting in determining things like that as they often are empty to ... full to... and each as a registration plate for the company tracks that it can run over.
  16. There seem to be quite a few of the older four and six wheeled stock used on these. A few photos exist in various industrial railway books and online. I suspect that these were ideal vehicles as they often had running boards that make getting onto and off at a ground level easy for the able bodied person. This makes stopping at locations near to cottages easy as don't need a platform.
  17. This is an excellent choice as small layouts and big ones will all be able to find a use. Nice to see an ex Middleton loco (Roundtree 3) There is no scale but O scale ;)
  18. Looking at the body there are many similar NG prototypes from the likes of Hunslet that with a few tweaks may be feasible.
  19. Knowing a few who work for them and numerous similar bodies they are full of folks who like to do studies, surveys and reports about what could happen. Then a while later they do more studies and conclude that the first idea is not feasible and come up with something else. Just wish I could get onto the payroll of one of these bodies as they seem to have employees travelling here there and everywhere.
  20. Why run NOL as Eurostar planned when we have very good services from Kings Cross and Euston, which are a short walk from St P. Better to buy London CIV ticket. They would be better linking to other places south of the tunnel. Paris is good however the majority of times that I have used the tunnel I'm heading through to Brussels.
  21. Many that have significance will exist at the appropriate location. I'm aware of many football clubs having plates off of LNER locos. Similar for halls, castles etc. There are a lot of private individuals with many plates. I am aware of one gent who died who's plates will be going to an auction house so that the benefactors then get their fair share of the assets.
  22. Buffer beam height in the middle is dropped on many MW (and others) so that the smoke box door can be opened as without doing so you limit the angle that you can open it to. Harman has Bamburgh as a standard L
  23. Have the outputs been programmed to a different function output? Was this an own or purchased project? It might need a question of how it was set up. The manual is below. http://www.zimo.at/web2010/documents/MS-Sound-Decoders_EN.pdf
