  1. ISTR that in the UK at some time long ago that we made a change from 0 to O. Similarly I think that the Germans say "halbnul" as H0 is half 0 scale.
  2. Another item in the Middleton Railway fleet. I wonder if @rapidoandy is doing like Jason and selecting items that he needs for a Middleton fleet. 😉
  3. ISTR that IoW locos in BR days carried the Wxx number on the bunker rear. I always thought that it was a SR practice. A quick image search has popped up W24 with a number plate on the rear of the bunker
  4. By O scale you are all thinking about standard gauge. Why not an RTR O scale NG loco such as a Quarry Hunslet? I can imagine that there would be many who would upscale from OO9.
  5. For those who like the wrap over cab Sir B had one when it worked in industry, there are photos in one of the books I have on the shelf. The VCT at Ingrow (on the KWVR) have a book about Sir B which is available
  6. Turn up the volume to 11 and enjoy the thrash heading up hill out of Keighley.
  7. MW 1601 Matthew Murray in blue at Middleton Railway MW 1210 Sir B also at Middleton with the Logan and Hemmingway multiple shades of green rather than the Kermit green that it once carried. I kept quite as I knew about the recording at the same time as NER 1310 was done. I can imagine amongst the versions (over time) that 1601 will also carry the Arthur name when it was at KESR I may need to work a bit longer rather than dipping into the slush fund, unless the Premium Bonds pay out....
  8. Sounds like something that a friend would report and then NL depot staff would say no fault found, probably after a thump had happened!
  9. Stock owned by a railway is often easier to use than those owned by individuals or groups. These can be and are often limited in the number of times they are operated and are subject to steaming fees. WCR have a black 5 from KWVR that operates the Jacobite It might be that the SVR is thinking they are a GWR line and should concentrate upon motive power from that company.
  10. In the early days running into Leeds there were times that the software had issues so they would run the 91 around the train and head back to London with 91 at south end running blunt end first. I have had haulage with both Mk III and 4 stock - got photos somewhere.
  11. @G-BOAF I think knowing Mr H at Rapido's penchant for SR I think your Bluebell link will be spot on especially with the Elephant mentioned in the said article.
  12. Both of these are classed as specials by MW. Warwickshire is the youngest MW and in a few years will be 100 years old.
  13. A quick video with some of 19B's sisters when I was in Darjeeling in November 2022
  14. Big Jim 5820 at Keighley 2021 Enjoy the sound heading up t'hill
  15. Dates for L's are from 1874 though to 1919 according to the Harman book Taking a look at my database on the Leeds Engine site (link in footer) there are about 90 Examples were used on North Sunderland, Isle of Axholme and Weston Clevedon & Portishead
  16. Had a nice ride behind Sir B this afternoon and some more photos taken from safe locations.
  17. Enjoy the sight and sounds of Sir B in a little video I did earlier.
  18. The L has 2 distinct wheel types. Sir B has classic MW and MM has ones similar to usual pattern wheels. As most manufacturers make the models with separate cabs the varieties of cab and coal bunker could be easy component swaps. Many of the USA makers do patterns so that they can do loco specific details perhaps we are starting to see this percolating through to the UK.
  19. The locos at the bottom are MW L class 0-6-0ST's. The left hand one has cab etc like Matthew Murray and the right hand one is Sir B. Both are based at the Middleton Railway.
  20. There are many steam locos that have scheduled maintenance such as boiler wash outs which help to keep the important pressure vessel from failing to produce steam. All railways worth their salt have a daily lubrication process for each loco. Many important lubrication and coolant levels are in the daily check list for drivers at the start of the day. Quite a few crews will ensure that the tubes of a boiler are cleaned a day or so before they are on it so that it will boil ok for them when they want it to do so. With the best will in the world many industrial diesel locos have engine hours logs so that just like a road vehicle you get to a certain figure and change engine oil, gear box oil transmission fluid and coolant. In the autumnal months coolant is checked on diesels to ensure that the desired quantity of anti freeze is in the mix. Without doing so I have seen engines fail when the water freezes.
  21. Back in 85 I had a holiday in Cornwall and had a week on a Cornish rover doing all of the branches. Got to Liskeard to find that the unit was parked up and replaced by a P***r as it had a broken window. Think I scanned a neg from the trip.
  22. For those wanting to have a watch and listen here is a quick video of Lion and all of the sounds. It will get a crew soon......
  23. I'm sure that @rapidoandy will remember operating 1310 before it had the cab shortened prior to the last overhaul about 13 years ago. In NCB days the cab was about 6" bigger.
