  1. I went down to Weybourne this afternoon shame I missed the earlier post or could have had a look for you Had to say something to be 1000 reply to your post!
  2. Excellent again Dave strange mix of coaching stock and DMU trailers in the second one at Portobello
  3. I was going to say bure valley had that station.
  4. As nice as it is to see a 90 being looked after it must be a bit embarrassing for DB that the only loco they have to display there is a nearly 30year old BR design
  5. 37087 had a complete boiler until it was scrapped. I believe the boiler was saved by someone for future use on something
  6. I hope they don't paint it any modern livery. The contract for the sleeper was for nearly new loco's this and indeed the 92s hardly qualify for that, but somehow GB hang on to the contract
  7. Thats looking stunning Pete! You really seem to have a soft spot for that yellow mk1 fiesta
  8. I seem to remember at the time there was a bit of needless comparison to the Amtrak SDP40 and E60 Co Cos, as both these types had derailments attributed to the wheel arrangement. Boiler tanks high up didn't help!
  9. It's most likely to be UK of Ireland as it has a vacuum pipe. It's certainly not a model of anything actually built, it could possibly be a product of someone's imagination. I remember once seeing a very well painted 31 in LNER colours!
  10. It would have been a bit odd for the driver, tilting in one direction but not the other! This has just made me realise why mk4s have non standard gangways. I was at Doncaster a while back and saw a MK 4 on its own, they have locating lugs on the gangways. I suppose this is if the tilt failed on a particular coach it wouldn't open up a hand trapping gap if the adjacent vehicle was still tilting?
  11. I remember having a cab ride on it between Doncaster and York about 1990 when York was the end of the wires. The driver preferred it to a 91,the thing is always remember about the ride and other occasions I saw it on its first stint was a sort of burning/ hot plastic smell As regards stock it was often used on an evening train to York, which got there about half 10. On a Friday this went to Newcastle but had a loco change at York. It was made up of mk2 aircons
  12. A late friend of mine who worked for BR and heavily involved with D821 told me how the engines and transmissions were actually interchangeable between the types but was never done. Apparently on V200s this was commonplace and they had a third type of engine a Mercedes. Would have been interesting to see how a loco with a MAN and a Maybach and voith at one end a mekhydro at the other
  13. Would the coaching stock have been able to tilt without the loco tilting?
  14. The picture of 078 at Toton has recorded a bit of strange history. If you look close it will be seen there is no coupling on the regulating air pipe just a hose from one cock to the other. What can't be seen is there was also a jubilee clip round the coupling to stop it being undone. The reason was this loco and several others were in pairs dedicated to Thornabys steel traffic. The theory was that when they were outstabled, such as a Toton on a weekend it would make it harder and require a fitter to split and use individual locomotives for local ballast work. Serious consideration was given at the time to semi permanently coupling the loco's with Freightliner bar couplings. The shown modifications continued with the 37/5s until the 60s came along
  15. Not sure if they still have them ,but when new 91s had a tilt fault light on the desk
  16. Thanks for that I knew there was somewhere like it,shame it's gone
  17. I'll have to look on a map but I'm sure there was somewhere round there with a connection
  18. There was another place in the same area that had back to back stops but a ground frame connection between the two. Does that still exist?
  19. The paint looks very flat on it,as if so kind of primer. Would this end have had the yellow first class stripe?
  20. Is there any sound footage of a NBL one, I'd love to know how different they sounded. Did they have the same controller as a Swindon one?
  21. When changing from yellow to green they should flash red, that used to make a few drivers jump. But you did get used to it. Other than LT is it just Clacton that has them now?
  22. So where are the boom gates in the earlier picture, did they fold out of the way as in that picture those gates look like security ones for when the works were shut on a weekend Great road vehicles,if the hunter and cortinas swapped colours, Gene hunt could be paying a visit
  23. Even today the boom gates at Redcar only close off the railway on one side of the road. When you think about it a barrier crossing doesn't close the railway off at all
