  1. I agree with the comments that it is a tad overpriced but it always slightly saddens me when I see this sort of damage. Somebody has, obviously, put in a lot of time and effort when they originally built this kit and I just wonder what some people do to their models to have them end up in this state! I am a pensioner O gauge modeller and my locos, especially the kit built ones I have bought, are looked after to the 'nth' degree as they represent a hefty financial outlay. Keep up the good work with this thread, it does often bring a smile to these gnarled old features (SWMBO's words - not mine!). Richard
  2. I know that having a box can increase the price of a model to the loony collectors (not anybody reading this thread, I hope!) but this box is just a bit overpriced. He has described both it and the (obviously) very r@@re clear plastic insert in loving detail, however. Bachmann BR STANDARD 3MT TANK CLASS EMPTY BOX ONLY - No.1 Having copied & pasted to check the link works, I could not quite believe what I was seeing. There is a rash of boxes for sale (is that the right name for a group of boxes?) with some of them around the £30 mark! Not that long ago, I would be paying that for the loco not just the box. As many people on this thread have said, fools & money! Richard
  3. Not strictly speaking eBay madness but I thought you jolly readers might like this offering from Hattons: www.hattons.co.uk - Dapol 7S-007-011-PO03 Class 57xx 0-6-0PT pannier 7714 in BR black with late crest - as preserved - Pre-owned - sold as seen - non-runner - drive wheels, cab roof, two buffers and numerous other parts loose Quite why they think that is a reasonable price for this is beyond me. Incidentally, they also have another pannier for sale which also has detached drive wheels and glazing but a good box! www.hattons.co.uk - Dapol 7S-007-010-PO04 Class 57xx 0-6-0PT pannier 8784 in GWR green - Pre-owned - sold as seen - non-runner - 3 drive wheels detached - loose glazing - good box What on earth has an owner done with these poor specimens, especially when I consider how much they cost originally, I handle my models very carefully indeed. Richard
  4. Hi Stubby, Thank you very much for that, I didn't think to look on the website. Having had emergency eye surgery myself (on my one good eye, naturally!), I can have have a lot of sympathy with him. No wonder they are not able to answer everybody! Richard
  5. Hi all, I am having a problem with Modelmaster Jackson Evans in Scotland. I ordered and paid for a set of 7mm BR number plates for my Heljan Large Prairie from Jim at Modelmasters in early January 2020 but he sent me a 4mm set. I returned them to him and when I rang him and spoke to him, he apologised and said that he had misread the order and that he would have to order further supplies of the necessary thickness of brass for the 7mm sets. Not long after that, of course, everything went just a little awry with the pandemic and, when I spoke to him again in the summer, he said that, obviously, he was unable to source any supplies of brass and that I would just have to wait until the factory had re-opened, which was fair enough under the circumstances. I rang him again in October and he said that he was still waiting for materials but that it should not be much longer. In early May this year, I had neither received the number plates nor any further communication from him and, since than have rung him a total of five times but all I am getting is voice mail, so could anybody tell me if they have had any contact with Jim or received any orders because I am beginning to wonder if I will ever see the numbers or my £14.49 payment! Any information would be much appreciated. Richard
  6. This little gem is listed as 'used' but, without wheels, I am not quite sure how! The link is ridiculously long but if you type in 'O Gauge Brake Van LMS 10T 1663', at the moment it is the newest one listed. Richard
  7. On the subject of 'slightly' inaccurate descriptions, I have just seen this gem: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-Model-KT-Silver-Jubilee-Routemaster-Die-Cast-Single-Decker-Bus-In-N-Gauge/124685765353?hash=item1d07d9cae9:g:EyMAAOSwa0pgeKaJ In addition, in the description, apart from the fact that the seller has forgotten most of the punctuation, I wonder if a completely wrong description counts as 'being barred for life if sent back for No good reason'! Richard
  8. I think this one might win the prize of 'Understatement of the Year!' or no s***t Sherlock! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254851866030?ul_noapp=true Richard
  9. On the subject of 'rare', I have just come across this buyer: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/55iains who has nearly three pages of diecast models of trucks, cars, buses etc (as well as some ladies clothes), every single one of which is described as RARE! He is even offering more than one of each of some of the items, which obviously shows how rare they are - in fact, just to take one example - the Atlas editions J T Whittle Burlingham Seagull coach - there are over 80 for sale on eBay at the moment, so not really rare then. Still, I suppose that we should be grateful he has not put 'L@@K' in front of every listing. Richard
  10. TMC (themodelcentre.com) are having an 'Early Boxing Day Sale' with bargains at least 25% off. They have some great prices and I have topped up on some O scale figures and bits & pieces for the layout and was pleasantly surprised to find that orders are carriage free over £50.00. Happy Christmas to everybody! Richard
  11. That reminds me of the time I sold a Hornby three car DMU which I filmed running quite happily on my layout before I listed it. When he received it the buyer messaged me to say that, although the motor was running, the unit did not move. I immediately offered to take it back and refund the whole transaction, including the return postage but he wanted a 'partial' refund. I repeated my offer of accepting it back and giving a full refund but, within minutes, he had opened a case with eBay saying that I was refusing a partial refund and immediately posting negative feedback. I looked at his feedback and, lo and behold, he had a history of complaining about purchases and demanding partial refunds! I reported all this to eBay and, for once, they were very supportive and refused to take the case any further. Thankfully, in many years of selling on eBay (over 3500 feedback) that is the only one with which I have had a problem. I hope he does not spoil your feedback record. Richard
  12. Not railway related but amongst the other fine (!) collectables this seller has on offer is https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Britains-Knight-on-horse-perfect-condition-but-no-sword/264981556961?hash=item3db221aee1:g:iZMAAOSww-tfvla4 Interesting that he thinks that something with a missing part (quite useful for a knight on horseback) can be described as 'perfect'. Richard
  13. One of my pet hates is the way some of the, shall we say, less literate sellers spell 'Gauge' it is NOT gauge. This seller has put OO in the 'Gauge' box in the description and even that did not point out to them that it is spelt incorrectly in the title! Richard
  14. I think 'requires some work' is one of the year's masterly understatements - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233783958577?ul_noapp=true The seller also has some other O scale stock which looks as if it has been at the bottom of a junk box for about 50 years! I particularly like the LNER Mk1 coach - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/0-Gauge-L-N-E-R-Mk-1Coach/233782528716?hash=item366e864acc:g:LOkAAOSwH-RfsUef I had no idea that the LNER had introduced Mk1 coaches, I could have sworn it was BR. If you look at photo 4 it would appear that the seller has attempted a panning shot on a stationary coach! I don't think that I will be bidding. Richard
  15. I have just looked at his other items for sale - words slightly fail me!
  16. How about htis one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193705780013?ul_noapp=true If you scroll down to the Description (!), do we also not think that English is possibly not his first language, or is this Yoda speak? Richard
  17. Or, if you really want to splash out, how about this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-36-600-Straight-Track/153915335632?hash=item23d611a3d0:g:0v8AAOSw339ekdWK
  18. I, personally, do not use Royal Mail for the items I sell on eBay. I have always used Hermes and, for this item, they would charge £2.90 for a fully tracked two to three day service. I know that some people have had bad experiences with Hermes but, I can only speak as I find and I have sold over 500 items on eBay, with all the parcels sent by Hermes and have had no problems at all
  19. It already has three bids up to £56.36 and have you noticed the carriage charge - £5.15 for one wagon!
  20. If you look at some of the chimney experiments that were carried out on this poor loco, you will find that it was aptly named!
  21. I know this is probably a silly question but, is this the ebay madness thread or have I slipped into a computer website?
  22. That price is bad enough, how about the postage - about £34.00! I dread to think what he is charging for international postage.
  23. DCC Supplies are giving 20% discount off their Dapol graded stock for the month of April. I have just succumbed to the Grade 1 Guinness 08 they had at a very reasonable price. The only downside is that SWMBO said that I do not need two diesel shunters so my other one will have to go. eBay, here I come!
  24. Hi Simon, I did exactly the same as you about 18 months ago after modelling in OO for over 50 years as I was finding it all just too darn small to see! I concur with all the above particularly the information regarding suppliers and I have found Antics & Tower Models to be both very competitive on prices as well as being extremely helpful. Another great supplier in 0 scale is Ellis Clark Trains who sell the Darstaed range and have a large selection of pre- owned locos & rolling stock at very reasonable prices. Obviously eBay is another source of both new & pre-owned models and I have picked up a number of bargains lately. In addition, I would recommend you join the Gauge 0 Guild (gauge0guild.com) as they have a very useful website with a huge amount of information on and a very useful product search area which gives details of companies who supply all the bits & pieces needed. They also produce a very useful A4 size quarterly publication called the Gazette, printed in colour, which is included in the subscription. I hope you have a great time in 0 scale as I know I certainly have - good luck Regards, Richard
  25. Slightly off the wall this one. I have a number of searches saved on Ebay for items for my new O scale layout that I am building and this one came up this morning and I could not resist posting it as the ultimate bargain (or possibly not!) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362567011601?ul_noapp=true Do we think that the photos and description are a bit lacking? Richard PS Coming back at 5pm I have seen that the seller has changed the photo and sold it! In case you are wondering the original photo was of it all wrapped up in black plastic so all you could see was what looked like a coffin shaped parcel and the description was "Coaling tower, despatched by Hermes tracked!" Perhaps he read my post?
