  1. Thanks to everyone for the information they provided. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of people who replied. The name of the person I was looking for is (I think), Roland Arzul. I recall seeing his carriage drawings and his contribution to the book on 'Railways of the Baie De Somme' ... though wether he's a railway modeller, I'm not sure. Once again, thanks for all your help.
  2. Can anyone recall the name of the French modeller who was a friend of Mike Sharman? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to get details about the early (1850s-60s) double-decker/imperial's which ran on French railways.
  3. Thanks for the information Darryl. That's the layout I was looking for, though I didn't realize it appeared in RM over twenty years ago.
  4. Can anyone remember a layout that appeared in the Railway Modeller ten plus years ago. It was a 4mm NER set during WW1, and had snow for it's scenery.
  5. Saw this at the weekend. Still a great film. The Boer War armoured train ambush looked like it was filmed in Yorkshire. (KWVR perhaps). Mac
  6. Kat. Thanks for the interesting introduction to 3mm scale. It's certainly made me reconsider the benefits it offers. I've sent you a PMail re' some points I'd like to ask you. Mac.
  7. Reply to enquiry arrived Nov 5th. A4 page with colour images of 18 of Paul's models(as at July 2011). Price List (Sept 2011) for Complete/Body Only Loco's. These range from approx' £110/£80 respectively. The colour image is poorly reproduced but gives a fair idea of what's available. Fortunately I'd seen some of the models at Shows so can vouch for their quality. Mac.
  8. I don't want to contact electronically. That's why I've sent a letter to his address. Mac.
  9. Thanks Tom. Found details on the site you mentioned. Will contact him by mail. Mac.
  10. Re' Paul Windle Loco's. Does anyone know if his models are still for sale to the public? I managed to find this on the internet... but no contact information to request catalogue/commission work. Paul Windle specialises in ready-to-run 009 locomotives handbuilt on N gauge chassis. He has a catalogue of standard designs but will also undertake custom work on chassis supplied by the customer. Mac.

Good point about the small ship operators...though from what I've seen from TV 'documentaries' the big floating hotels look like hell on earth. Mac.
  15. Caught this YouTube clip by chance. I know it deals with good manners; but I couldn't help but find it unintentionally hilarious. Never, Ever throw a smoker over the rail: It litters the ocean. Mac.
  16. Gordon,Eddie and Kenton. No offence taken and thanks for the tip about making the font larger: I'll have to take a note of that. My monitor is set up for 1920x1200 resolution;so I imagine to someone reading my messages on a smaller screen, it must look like Gigantor typed it. I'm thinking about replacing my PC with a laptop next year, but I'll keep the 24" monitor as it's great for displaying images. I'm off to Beamish tomorrow to see what their special show is like. I'll try to put some photo's up at the weekend. Mac.
  17. Belsay. Before you shoot the boy down in flames:he does come out with some good reviews (notably about a camcorder I'm looking to buy). Unfortunately he seems to hold some odd views about certain groups of people. Maybe he's a closet bus enthusiast and that's why he hates train nerds...though I've never heard this phrase used in the UK before. Must be an Australian thing. Mac.
  18. Gordon. The reason for the bold large font is because I'm half blind...Sorry; but normal font looks like mouse scratchings to me. Mac.
  19. BoD. Because when you examine his rant, you'll see he condemns himself out of his own mouth. Mac.
  20. I saw this on a YouTube subscription I take for gadget reviews. To test out a mobile device(A GooseBerry?) the reviewer takes an 11hour train journey from Sidney to Melbourne. For privacy; he buys out the three seat day- cabin in an empty carriage. He gets progressively bored with the journey until at point 13.18 minutes into the clip; he goes into a rant about Train Nerds! ... I thought it was both very funny and annoying. Have a look and see what you think. Mac.
  21. Nick. Is Game of Thrones the new Film/Series starring Sean Bean? It looks like it may be worth watching. Mac

    Name of Film?

pH I think you're spot on about the title being 'War So Terrible'. Thanks for posting the Links to a film I've never heard off. Brian Kamerrer: who does great CIvil War artwork thought the clip came from this film ... but your comment about the names of the main characters and the film plot makesme think your answer is the right one. I'm very pleased at finding not one; but two quality films that I hadn't heard of and will buy both films. It will make a welcome change to watching Gods& Generals. Thanks again. Mac.

    Name of Film?

Mickey. No: It's not that film either. If you like G&Generals, there's a Directors cut version with added scenes. It's approx £18 at the moment; but I might rent it from Blockbuster should it become available. Mac.

    Name of Film?

Martin. Thanks for the contact address. Someone suggested the film was from a Civil War re-enactment group; but I think the clip shows real actors (though I don't recognise any of them). Mac.
