  4. Hello Nice to see the article Steve and I even lashed out and bought one. Look forward to seeing it at Wrec-rail next year. Great work as ever old friend. Cheers George
  5. Authors are John Dedman, Steve Clark and Mark Finch. Published by Amberley Books. Price £14 99 This is the latest book by my friend John Dedman, this time with two collaborators, and for the first time featuring a history of one particular class of locomotive. Though the class 56s were first introduced in 1976 the pictures in the book date from the BR blue era in 1980 through to the latest Colas liveries example in 2017 and featuring many other paint schemes in between. As with the previous books there are two colour photographs on each page with informative and concise captions underneath. Though all periods of their existence is covered well over half the book is taken up with pictures of the privatization era while there sadly few of the blue and large logo time. I suspect this is due to the fact that the authors have many more of the latter to choose from. The pictures cover most of the network where the class were most active so this would explain the lack of images from Scotland and East Anglia and the considerable number around the Barnetby area which is where most of them ended up under EWS ownership. The picture quality is good as is the reproduction. Although the Class has been featured in books in the past I have no hesitation in recommending this one both to afficinados of 'the Grids' but to modellers and general rail enthusiasts. Cheers George
  6. Hello Arran are their any plans for any ISO Deep Sea containers of the late 70s to go with the Freight liner ones on the forth coming Bachman wagon sets? Cheers George
  7. Hello Interestingly though there are now 45ft containers skelly trailers are still only 40ft long so have to have an overhang at both ends. In the US the majority of domestic containers are 53ft long. Happily I don't have to drive any of them anymore. Cheers George
  8. Hello Your absence was noted Terry, you can expect a visit from 'The Management' Cheers George
  9. Hello I doubt United Counties had any services west of Daventry. As mentioned earlier Geoff Amos would have been one provider though there were probably others. Most of these routes would not have been daily but mainly connected with Market days at Banbury or Northampton. Hope this helps. Cheers George

  18. Hello Thanks for the advice and info. Based on my memories of the mid sixties when I worked on a farm the best bets are the Leyland, Albion, Bedford TK and Ford versions. The old army trucks may have still been about but not in my part of the world. A local farmer used a good many old army trucks for hauling bales and bulk grain but he was an exception. I will keep a lookout for the Base Toys model and see what I can cobble up. As an aside I have to say all of the vehicles mentioned with the possible exception Of the Bedford TK were bloody awful things to drive as I had the mis-fortune to do so in the early 70s. most people who wax lyrical about old vehicles, especially trucks, never had to do it for a living. Any other suggestions of course are welcome and once again thanks for all your help. Cheers George
