  1. Nice to "Ireland in disguise" pipped at the post by a "club" side from the former U-boat base today.
  2. Presumably it is the same photo as the one appearing on the front cover of Transport Treasury's "Western Region Non-Passenger Trains" book.........
  3. Re - Things which caught my eye… 3 ROD tenders at Perranporth on which unfortunately no comment is made - why were they there? Possibly part of a weedkilling train?
  4. Welcome back Jamie Vardy - he was only on for the last 20 minutes as a sub but he grabbed a goal and an assist to secure Leicester's first league win since he last played on Boxing Day. Apparently his goal is his 94th Premiership goal since turning 30 years of age. It overtakes Ian Wright's previous record total of 93 goals scored after turning 30 years old.
  5. Liverpool also "won" the African Nations Unpunished Diving Simulation Cup 2021: Although Salah didn't really have an opportunity to compete in it.
  6. So ends one of the most feeble defences of the F.A. Cup - a totally inept Leicester City totally outclassed all over the pitch by neighbours Nottingham Forest today. I get the feeling Leicester are beginning their journey back to relative mediocrity after a memorable decade or so, as Brendan Rodgers couldn't even use an excessive number of injuries as an excuse today - it was a strong selection. I know be careful what you wish for but Brendan Rodgers has now been at Leicester for 3 years.......
  7. You could ask Dapol to do this livery as they seem to have inexplicably missed it out: 3755/56 at Newton Abbot Power Station en route to Buckfastleigh August 23 ,1965 (photo by B. Gibson). Still a bit late for your 1957 BR scenario...
  8. Well that went well. Tigers have obviously been drawing inspiration from Leicester City when it comes to throwing away winning positions.
  9. Well I wasn't expecting the score line of Leicester City 1 Liverpool 0 last night at the King Power, as Liverpool had scored at least once in their previous 28 league games and Leicester don't do "clean sheets" these days. An excellent gritty defensive performance from a cobbled together back four with Schmeichel in great shot stopping mode and a good measure of luck thrown into the mix - and then to score the only goal of the game with your only shot on target all night - all very strange. Definitely a late Christmas present, after going out of the League Cup throwing away a two goal lead and losing the penalty shootout against Liverpool just 6 days ago and having suffered a 6-3 drubbing by Man. City on Boxing Day, although with three first choice centre backs, three first choice full backs, our best defensive midfielder, best wide player and best striker all crocked not that surprising really. It looks like Brendan Rodgers may have at last begun to ditch zonal (zombie?) defence based on tonight's defensive shape and if we can get a few players back fit perhaps the second half of the season will be better than the roller coaster first half has been.
  10. What a complete joke of a "sport" F1 is with zero credibility.
  11. R.I.P. John Sillett - Manager of Coventry City's 1987 F.A. Cup winning side. One of the relatively few exciting F.A. Cup Finals which still linger in my mind.
  12. An excellent afternoon yesterday at the King Power starting with a long standing ovation from the Leicester fans for the returning legend Claudio Ranieri, which brought a tear or two to many an eye, followed by a goal fest in the falling snow.
  13. Just watched the highlights of that and I think the England Women's team should be reported to the League Against Cruel Sports. The poor Latvian keeper appeared to have flippers, where you would normally expect arms to be, which flapped haplessly in the vague general direction of the ball as it flew or rolled by her on multiple occasions. No idea how she managed to save the penalty and the follow up attempt though.....
  14. Well I wasn't expecting that so soon after Saturday's win over United, particularly with Leicester's mediocre opening 44 minutes going 2-0 down, then up steps Patson Daka to score 4 goals in just over half an hour with series of finishes which were Vardy-like in their ruthless simplicity. Daka becomes the first Leicester City players to score 4 goals in a match since 1958. There was still time for Spartak to score a third goal in 4-3 mad thriller of a game.
  15. Finally after two months of underwhelming football the "real" Leicester City turned up today with an accomplished demolition of Manchester United. I have no idea how Manchester United have managed to avoid defeat for 29 away Premier League games based on their shocking performance this afternoon. The secret ingredient behind Leicester's success was the return of Jonny Evans and his defensive organisational skills. The midfield and attacking players played with much more urgency and freedom and their pressing was first class. There's not a lot to complain about in a game with 40 goal attempts with 17 of them on target.
  16. Good luck to Brighton in this evening's "El Gatwicko Derby". It will be good to see a "new name" at the top of the Prem if they can pull off a win.
  17. A little shout out for my local team - 18-0 away win in the F.A. Vase! - Hinckley football team make history in 18-0 FA Vase win Published 5 hours ago Share Nine different Hinckley AFC players scored - two bagged four goals and a debutant scored a hat-trick A non-league football team set a club record as they stormed to an 18-0 win in an FA Vase match. Hinckley AFC would have been forgiven for taking it easy after racing to a 7-0 half-time lead against Shropshire-based St Martins on Saturday. But the side kept their shooting boots firmly on as nine different players scored - two bagging four apiece and a debutant scoring a hat-trick. Manager Courtney Belford said the game was "a total freak". The manager of the United Counties League team added: "I don't think I'll ever be involved in a game like that again, and I don't think I ever have been before. "I think St Martins are going through a little bit of a tough time as a club, and you don't want to embarrass anybody, but you've got to be as ruthless as you possibly can in football. "You have to enjoy it while you can." The number of goals meant the Leicestershire side managed to, on average, score every five minutes in the first round qualifier. St Martins announced the appointment of a new manager following the game. The supporters' man of the match was given to Drew Kear Mr Belford said at half-time, he told the players they had the chance to beat the previous club record of 13-0. He said: "The message to them was, 'Can we make a bit of history here and be a bit more ruthless?'" Mr Belford said as the team went past 13-0, he told the players to enjoy the rest of the game, but then someone mentioned the FA Vase record was 17-0. He added: "So it gave us something to work towards and kept us motivated. "We have made a bit of club history and beat the Vase record as well. It is two bits of history in a game of football so it is always going to be remembered."
  18. Nice day out at Wembley this afternoon/evening and another "trophy" for the cabinet with a different name on it for a change.
  19. Was Rashford auditioning for Strictly with all that shuffling and stuttering around before his pen?
  20. It looks like we're stuck with "Sealions on a shirt" for a few more years. Never mind.
  21. I think I've seen this movie before........
  22. It's going quite well so far although I would have liked a few more shots by England - no shots since the second minute although that one wasn't too shabby.
  23. Just a pity England won by an own goal and a dodgy penalty, as I thought they actually played reasonably well and were entertaining for the majority of the game. I suppose Schmeichel might have had a hand or two in keeping the score down. Still the result is everything after a 55 year wait to appear in a major Final.
  24. I hope Pickford takes his anti-Evertonitis meds during half time.....
