  1. No use to Leicester though as I was already expecting a good thrashing from Man City when they visit on Boxing Day.......
  2. Unexpected early Christmas present of three points courtesy of Chelsea this afternoon. Leicester rarely get anything at Stamford Bridge.
  3. I was going to have a moan about yet another feeble Leicester City performance this evening but it seems trivial and irrelevant now compared with: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11712/11537871/helicopter-crashes-outside-king-power-stadium
  4. That photo appears on page 31 of "The Great Western in South Devon" book by Beck and Copsey (WSP) and the accompanying text is : "An Up Ocean Mails express, behind an unidentified 'Saint' class engine, passing a short Down goods train in the charge of a Dean '2301' class 0-6-0 (probably the 'Pick-up') at the western approaches to Brent"
  5. You could buy some thinking time by using the "Dawlish" whale as a temporary view blocker/visual distraction...... But you would have to dispose of it after a few days, before it gets smelly, as the August 1947 weather forecast is for hot sunny spells. (Poor old whale)
  6. Kante would be disqualified as there are at least two of him on the pitch at any one time - I know this from his brief and extremely successful sojourn at Leicester
  7. Supporters celebrate England's 4th place finish at the World Cup from their barbed wire and polythene topped security compound at Birmingham Airport Meanwhile in Brussels for finishing third ......
  8. Lloris is obviously a graduate of the Karius School of Big Match Safe Keeping ... not that it mattered one jot by the end.
  9. At least Djokovic vs Nadal saved me the bother of watching the first half.........has Harry Kane been playing the last two or three games wearing lead boots as he has seemed spectacularly slow and immobile....but I assume he must be carrying an injury.
  10. No disgrace whatsoever in tonight's result as England have taken their limited game plan as far as they could reasonably be expected to. They have come up a little bit short against opponents with some world class players.. England could be really dangerous in future tournaments if they can develop some creativity in open play.
  11. With good eyesight, and standing roughly where the leisure centre is now, 58 years ago in the summer of 1960 you might just have caught a rare sighting of a King (6002 King William IV) "on shed" taking water at the "new" Goodrington servicing facilities. (L.F. Folkard) I think sightings of Kings on the Kingswear Branch would be relatively rare by 1960 as the plum jobs would be in the hands of Warships by then. At least the turntable was rescued and re-installed at Churston...
  12. If you like Greater Horseshoe Bats then the caves at Buckfastleigh could be the place for you and only 8 or so miles from Brent: First planes and now bats.....
  13. It just seems a bit of harmless Hroth...... I mean Froth.....
  14. Sterling's only real problem is that he is not a natural finisher and he gets a bit over excited when he gets into scoring positions and is not a very clean kicker of the ball, other than that he is doing fine in this World Cup. I think his role is completely different for England than at City. It is much more central, much more demanding with much more responsibility and with no de Bruyne or Silva to help him out. It is to his credit that he never hides from the ball even when the going gets tough and I am baffled that he keeps getting the lowest "fan" ratings after every game.
  15. Trouble is Croatia haven't been anywhere near their best in the knock-out matches and, tired or not, I worry that they may still have a great performance left in them.
  16. Has Minnie gone into the workshops for her decennial repaint and refurbishment? She was looking a bit "rough" in closeup in one of the "recent" mag articles, in fact a bit like a mud splattered Mogul.
  17. I can see some similarities between Leicester and England in so far as Leicester had a limited game plan which worked like a dream to get the job done. England's game plan for this tournament seems to be doing the same thing i.e getting the job done....whether it will work against Belgium, France,Croatia or Russia (with the whole country behind them) I don't know
  18. Still not sure about all this raving about a fine attacking performance today with only two shots on target out of 12 goal attempts when the Swedes managed 3 efforts on target out of only 6 attempts playing dinosaur 4-4-2 football. Just as well that England are great at set pieces and seem to have found themselves a keeper in great form.
  19. it's O.K. to dream of at least a 4th place finish at the tournament
  20. Well we've managed to concede in every World Cup game so far ......
  21. I see England are bottom of the league for chances created in open play of all the WC Quarter Finalists, having created just 15 openings compared to Belgium's 45. Another goal or two from open play would be good....
  22. At least we won't have to suffer any more Neymar "injury" breaks. They totalled just under 14 minutes before tonight's game
  23. Ah so these fellas........ Two avenues of pleasure now sadly essentially closed to me as my early 65th birthday present was a type 2 diabetes diagnosis......boo Still not all bad news as there is 17% less of me than there was 14 weeks ago
