  1. I like the way you are doing the scenery the whole layout looks really good and is developing well and must be very satisfying to complete more please.
  2. About time is the go slow finnished now?
  3. Several of the cats I have had used to enjoy helping me with my layouts a couple liked when I ran trains would sit alongside and tap them but not knock them off ,a niegbours cat joins me in my shed and sits on the door mat whilst I am in there.
  4. Good to see this layout back always enjoyed reading the updates and the laughs plus seeing the shots of trains running glad that its in for a refresh as they say ,bring it on !
  5. Glad the first section is coming together well but the arguments around the last section are worrying it seems that the relevant people in charge are unable to make a decisi on this is a bad time for the project. Its a real shame that the DFT did not pursue the project twenty years ago but hindsight is a wonderful thing as costs obviously would have been lower and there was a need then for the line. I hope that the Aylesbury extension is built but I am not filled with hope. There seems to be a view within Daft that its not a project they should promote ,typical where Aylesbury is concerned . Over the years a bypass has put on hold and other nescary works have been pushed back ,if the line to MK is opened and promoted in an energtic way passengers would be forthcoming .But with the attitude of Daft we are going to be waiting for a long time and I have a feeling that they are not really interested in a scheme that could take many cars off the road and also add many more journey options for the people of Aylesbury ,but dont hold your breath !!!
  6. Take care of yourself its good to see you back posting like the last set of photos thanks.
  7. Thanks for getting the lifeboat station in the photos this is our two hundred year of service to the people of the British Isles ,the buffer stop is interesting.
  8. Ridiculous names the money should have been spent on actual services not this rubbish.
  9. Glad your back the latest buildings look good best way do a couple of small projects and take your time , the band will be a good thing for you go out and rock em !
  10. Thats good news Chiltern provide an excellent service and this rolling stock will increase the quality all good news .
  11. I meant to add the following when I started this thread ,the flat I lived in in Newbury Park Essex for a few years backed onto the remains of the GER branch which went to Ilford after coming from Epping .Further up the road a friends garden shed backed over where Central Line tubes went into the tunnell , it was a long way down and we dropped conkers on them we were very young! Incedently durring the second world war several times German figters and bombers followed the railway firing as they passed aiming to drop bombs on Plessey ,s works where many new weapons came from my dad worked in a special weapons dept and was a fireman at night.Newbury Park station was a very advanced building it was a very large arch construction and was a wind tunnel plus a funnel for rain.I had my first train ride on the Central line to Stratford very exciting.
  12. .Labour will not spend a penny on transport they never do dont expect anything to come forward all thier money will go on social problems it always does
  13. I was thinking about how I started watching railways and how many of you started ,I started watching Goodmayes yard on the GE mainline .My father took me on a Sunday mornings and he explained what was happening plus where the trains were going to. Later on I started going to Liverpool St watching from the water point as I could see all the station throat. Then I went to the GN line to the north bel ow Alexander Palace on a cross line footbridge .There it was A4,s A1,s A2,sA3,s etc happy days all this started me on a lifetime of railway enthusiasm a still happy to watch trains go by.nd I am
  14. Politicians god help us all that politicians seem to do is compound the mess that they make when they gain power ,having lived through every government since 1945 I have to say they all have been useless. None have left anything that can be called worth while and what has been done to our railways makes you really wonder if they have known just what a disaster they have caused. The railways should have been left to railwaymen to run and work out how to make them be a success then maybe the future would look good . Just look at the rubbish passenger stock that has appeared all designed initially by the DFT with strange ideas that do not reflect what is needed . Well that is my view of what is happening and I hope that eventually we get a railway that works and not like now one that stutters along.
  15. All the people rejoicing the truncation of the line will probably in thirty years on be demanding that a new rail is needed or they will be complaining about new roads being suggested you can never satisfy the general public. Years back people complained about the first railways nothing changes people will continue to be a problem as long as they exist , I bet there will be columns like this in fifty years time. As is said up north there,s nowt so queer as folk !
  16. That was a very good day interesting stock and the railman were very friendly
  17. You cant help notiing the lack of weeds and overgrown bushes in all of your photos taken in Switzerland it all looks very beautiful thanks. Chris
  18. Glad I dont go to Glasgow for the model show did it every for about fifteen years first with Virgin then with the current operators the best journeys were with Virgin and those with its succesor reasonable. The staff at Virgin were brilliant the staff who followed did thier best with a not very good product ,the food in first class with Virgin was excellent and when they had gone it was down to the minimum standard and also at the end of my journeys only served from Prestoneynes .I think that the offerring now is a very poor quality only one train via Milton Keyneis glad I travelled when Virgin were around.
  19. Good news about Railex see there hrisC
  20. Those two blokes at the end of the platform seem to be talking and doing nothing is the station master aware and if he is I can see them being fired!
  21. Yes of course I did and we enjoyed ourselves dont remember any bad accidents but now its different situation people do not heed safety warnings and if they do themselves damage its off to lawyers to make money.
  22. Accidents are awful and steps to stop them happening has to be taken but to many people today do not take any interest in it they consider it a nuisance ,this starts at school and goes through to old age . When I was growing up in the forties and fifties you took notice of safety and how it affected you and it stayed with you for life. We might be old fogies but we are here !!!!!!!!!!
  23. People were far more aware of dangers and yes they did leap off trains as they arrived but they knew the risks whereas today due to the nanny state everyone thinks someone else is going to look after them. Many young people have no idea about safety which is why my friends in the RNLI are increasingly having to rescue people who endanger their lives. But safety is being spread by people going into schools I vis it many schools and other groups spreading the safety word .I have also met a team from the east coast railway who have been out and about teaching safety on the railway and they do a brilliant job and the children love it.But people who are in thier twenties and thirties seem to have a very different view of life which seems block anything they have been told to be safe .This is a fact born out by research so we have to make allowances ,traveling on a preserved train is something that is a new experience for many .In the case of doors they need to recognise that they are different to anything they have seen before ,which why staff keep a watch at all times. I hope that the Jacobite keeps running as it is important to the area.
  24. This whole situation makes you realise how the population of our country has declined in being able to do simple things such as not open doors whilst the train is in motion. When I first started use trains in the early 1950,s Iknew not to open a train door when it was in motion. But now there is so much legislation that noone is expected to think for themselves and they are the worse for it surely common sense should cover situations that are over amplefied by do gooders.
