  1. This whole situation makes you realise how the population of our country has declined in being able to do simple things such as not open doors whilst the train is in motion. When I first started use trains in the early 1950,s Iknew not to open a train door when it was in motion. But now there is so much legislation that noone is expected to think for themselves and they are the worse for it surely common sense should cover situations that are over amplefied by do gooders.
  2. Tonight on our local ITV news a report on the viaduct over the Chiltern line and then behind Wendover onwards over the Thame viaduct towards Waddesdon its going to be a very good place to watch the trains go through towards the north. They certainly are trying out different methods of construction on this line and it will be a place to have a look at all works ,the section beside Wendover village is to be in a green tunnel. The bridge outside Waddesdon is coming on very well and give it three months you will see the roadways and possibly it could be in use. Waddesdon village will gain the bypass it has been waiting for the past fifty years | The diversion of of the Thame Rd outside Aylesbury is progressing well and by the summer the roads will be built and maybe the diversion will be in operation also here there will have to be a big cutting put in place were the road used to go and the section northwards to the viaduct will take shape. Works in our area are being very well planned and when the rails are in place and all the surrounding works are covered in trees and grss you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
  3. Got these on my layout pleasure to build as all thier products are.
  4. When I worked for BT in the sixties I had to sign the Secrets Act because we went onto all the local military bases and the local rocket testing facility which everybody locally knew what they did and the noise when they did testing echoed all round the locality. Later in life in catering wholesale I had to go into many military bases all over the south and they knew I was covered by the act even though I signed it a long while before, I enjoyed my visits especialy when went onto an active RAF base and saw Lightnings takeing off.
  5. Thats some old locos etc the railcar looks prewar thanks for showing them Chris
  6. You have achieved this and more happy new year from Aylesbury
  7. HS2 could have been an answer to many transport problems but it will create a real problem north of Birmingham with trains restricted to 110 mph and short platforms , and also what about the many passengers who join wcml trains between MK and Crewe.Joining a stopping train will not be liked as they want to board a fast train that takes them to thier destination without changing. HS2 should have gone to main destinations as an independent railway with Euston as the starting point only then would it be of use. But we are in the UK only roads are built in this way as the government makes money from users unlike railways and we have people in charge now that feel public services are not worth promoting .All in all the UK is in a mess.
  8. As long as we passengers have comfortable trains that continue to arrive on time ,we are very lucky to be served by Chiltern for the last twenty years.
  9. Maybe but I lived through the whole saga of closure here in Aylesbury there was even talk of closing to Amersham but sense prevailed unlike with our main line north if work had been put in we would have had a service to the north.Certainly passenger numbers had dropped but this was because of station closures poor services all planned to ensure that passengers went elsewhere something that BR were very good at. It is very interesting to go along the route now as HS2 progresses vast earthworks and soon trains passing at high speed if only we had the foresight back in the sixties there would be alternative lines to the north through areas of high population .But we had one of many governments that have consistently ignored our needs at least we hopefully have a railway there will actually be of use even it does not go to the north and Scotland but never mind they will build new motorways regardless of the environment what a world we live in .Mynext post will be about how work is progressing around Wendover.
  10. The reason it was dying on its feet was because of the awful services on offer ,Aylesbury had three services to Nottinghingham and these were not publicised or any attempt to increase of passengers. Overall the GCR had been run down by BR as part of cost cutting and a government anti rail policy it could have offered a good variety of services if run properly. And dont forget that BR wanted to close Marylebone so all in all BR shafted us in the home counties etc just appease the government of the day.
  11. What units will Northern be using in place of these trains hope they offer a good alternative ?
  12. The latest film of HS2 is very interesting in that the route does not seem to be defined like it is to the south ,also you can see how this part of the world is very susceptible to flooding which must have caused a bit of head scratching to find answers. I hope we get a video of north of Waddesdon so we can see the bypass taking shape plus the bridge works on the Waddesdon Rd as when you drive along here its not that a clear view due to all the earthworks. The viaduct is going to be quite a construction to watch trains passing over as they will be at full speed.
  13. Memories used to get a train in Walthamstow to Barking and then to South Benfleet started when it was steam and then when electric happy days ,spent my summer holidays there . Regular trips by bus to Canvey Island and every so often to Southend and a walk down the pier have a munch look at the lifeboat and back by pier train.Enjoyed my trips down there and I went at the right time would not want to do this trip now the foties and fifties were better times .
  14. That looks like the RNLI Arbroath lifeboat in the rear of the photo , busy station.
  15. Thank you for sharing your brilliant layout with us ,we have not seen many just lately thank you very much.
  16. I really enjoy seeing your modeling especially the figures and their faces they add another dimension to the very interesting locos etc ,it must make modeling fun thanks for some very interesting modeling.
  17. Yes I cant remember the year but it was good to see it and it ran very well must go to next Raillex glad after my ten years its still going.
  18. Always thought that this line to Oxford should have been kept open with some imaginative services and timetabling the passengers would have travelled. The main service would have been Thame to Risboro and every other hour Oxford also the oil trains could have been kept running plus this would have kept people off the roads.Thame has doubled in size and would offer many passengers who would have many reasons for using trains but when they closed the lines to the south of Risboro all of the thoughts were to save money not providing a service to the public. At least the line to Chinnor and beyond is still in place and when they have their own exit from Risboro in use next year costs will decrease and thoughts can turn to extending towards Watlington terminating at the A40 . Overall I think that more thought should have been given to the future of these lines as they provide good connections to the rest of the UK but back in time a certain pair of idiots were in charge ,strikes me that a new approch is needed to transport now.
