  1. I’ve just realised that Britains most westerly station once belonged to the London and North EASTERN Railway. Mind blown!

  2. Just been to an actual, real, in person model show. It was wonderful!

  3. Today’s vaccine news is possibly the best news I’ve heard all year. As a doctor I say bring it on!

Far too complex to explain in a status update. But fair to say that reinfections are vanishingly rare in the context of the number of worldwide infections

  4. I’m nervously waiting to see what tomorrow brings me as an NHS Doctor. But modelling is an amazing relaxation and distraction. Got a project on the go to unwind

Which will be finished first? The virus or my layout?

  5. One more thing to add to Andy's message. Don't slice your thumb up with a scalpel whilst staying in!

Also self isolation is not the time to do that DIY project you’ve been putting off

  6. How can Israel win Eurovision when they're not even in Europe !

      TomJ

Because they never get many votes in the 'Middle East Song Contest'. Iran and Saudi Arabia always give them nul pointe

Everything seems ok. Tested with a multimeter and no obvious shorts. So it ought to work. But not brave enough to try tonight!!!

  8. Modelling real locations isn't easy. We have a Brio station, level crossing, tunnel and engine shed. Trying to fit them all on the table to recreate Grosmont is proving tricky!

The alignment of the Esk Valley Line is proving tricky

  10. Is it child abuse to get your 4yr son to help with ballasting??

      TomJ

In my defence he did ask to help! It's win-win - I get to work on the layout and get brownie points for giving MrsJ a rest!!

  11. When you buy then NCE power cab, do yet get everythng to start running a layout?

    1. TomJ

      TomJ

Pretty much yes. You might need a plug adaptor as it comes with a US plug. I got one from Boots for a couple of pounds

  15. So proud of my 3yr lad. He has taken the tender from his Brio 'Henry' and put it in front of 'James' - to make a garrett just like we sae on the Welsh Highland. Is this his first kit bash?

    1. TomJ

      TomJ

Well we have serious scale issues! The garrett and Mallard are about the same size and run on the same track. And the flat crossing (again copied from the WHR) has both tracks the same gauge!

Well he tried a Farlie from two tank engines - but the Brio magnets won't allow back to back coupling!!!

  17. Mullered again by M.R. for one of our loco's. 80%!! what do we have to do to get better?

    1. TomJ

      TomJ

In these reviews what does '80%' actually mean? 80% of what? Perfection? And how do you define/measure that?

  18. Does anyone remember the advice on old Farish locos; 'Do not dismantle out of idle curiosity'? Now I know why!

    1. TomJ

      TomJ

A Farish class 31 (split frame chassis) to find out why it was jerky. A bit tricky to get the driveshafts back in and the bogies connected!

LBA - Leeds Bradford. The local sign in the nearby village has been graffittied 'Bramhope - twinned with Chicago, the windy city'. Its the highest runway in England and always v v windy!
