..then there's skirting boards, Window sills, plug points, light switches, door opening, etc - all contrive to be in the way when manoeuvring (theoretically) optimum length base boards...

I remember someone making the centre baseboard trapezoidal so it could pull out.

Using dowel type baseboard connectors is a no no unless you allow sufficient space to pull the boards apart.

Absolutely - haven't felt this excited about a forthcoming model for years - I have so wanted the SR Booster EL's modelled and the 4-CEP's were a part of my childhood trainspotting then teenage travel then both travel for work & being part of my early BR career.

I suppose it depends on how you define Britain. Dingle station was reputed to be the most westerly in Europe. Did that once belong to the LN&ER?

Surely it was Valentia Harbour, although that and Dingle are in Europe but not Britain (British Isles maybe)

Strangely enough I had ordered a resin kit for Upnor Castle and between placing the order and it arriving in the post the Fairlie was revealed. Complete revision of my plans ensued - new layout design in progress.

In days gone by, I might have tried to envision a reality where a Double Fairlie worked heavy coal trains over the Mendips, but those days have passed, now, so I'm more interested in those purchased by the Midland Railway for use in the Bristol area.

...but the quarry Hunslets used in the Somerset Cheddar mines were far more cute.

Far too complex to explain in a status update. But fair to say that reinfections are vanishingly rare in the context of the number of worldwide infections  

I don't mind ballasting, it's the stuff outside the railway fence I struggle with.

Like  Dagworth  I don't mind the ballasting.   I quite enjoy the track laying, wiring and ballast work, its when it comes to the general scenery that I usually struggle with.

With the HD, I minimise the scenic complications by resolutely refusing to model anything beyond the boundary fence. It saves a lot of angst, and is prototypical in modelling terms!

An approach even easier  to achieve in O-16.5 ...

A few years ago I was using a hot glue gun to stick something in place.  The glue began to ooze out of the joint and, without thinking, I used an unprotected fingertip to try and poke the molten glue back into place.

Not the kind of mistake you make twice.

I only bought one a few years back and soon wondered how I'd managed DIY bodging without one.

I went from "I doubt I'll use DCC sound, it's just a gimmick" to never running anything that doesn't have a sound decoder!

Folding them is OK.  It's when you read them you lose your sanity.

I've ran double headed trains and banked trains with Dc for years with no problems. Same result just different method

Yep dead easy with DC control.... Just another DCC myth.

One advantage of preserved railways as a model - easy to apply Rule#1 - run what you like!
