True, and then not true !! In the mid-eighties 37260 had cast bogies as per the Bachmann model, but by 1987 it had a set of fabricated ones. The class 37 data site lists an E exam at Inverness in August 1987, and I suspect that is when they got swapped. Typically I'm modelling late eighties.....

37012 is also not a suitable start point for 37114 as the roof finishing is different. (D6700 to D6742 (inc. 37012)) were double rivetted, most other split box ones were single riveted and a small batch D6799 to D6818 (inc. 37114) were welded. All centre headcode ones were welded. I heard that the Bachmann factory only has a certain capacity, so this was taken up by the Class 31 production, hence no more Class 37s for the moment. I'm 100% sure sales have been affected by the Accurascale release, but they have chosen their models carefully and opting for the ever popular Scottish locos is a good move. 37012/043/201/260/262/371/401/401/418/423 all have some degree of Scottish pedigree.

Most diesel modellers manage to justify a "fleet" of larger locos. Not many will have a "fleet" of 08s. So I would be surprised if any manufacturer was hoping to make a huge splash and huge profits with a brand new 08 model.

Flickr is very useful when you've selected your loco. Remember these things have been around for 50+ years and things change; a lot.

Any of the major suppliers of railway colours will have this one in their range (Railmatch, Precision etc.) But bear in mind that red fades more than almost any other colour. So a row of ten wagons would almost certainly have ten (if not more) shades between them.

What is mundane? The split boxes versions have three different roof styles, two different cantrail grill types, more than three different door/nose configurations, a mass of headlight positions (and types), era related boiler port options and that's before you even start talking about liveries and variations within "the same" liveries !!!! A least the centre box versions are a little more "standard" with only a handful different headboard/lamp brackets position combinations, handrails or not, blue star positions, liveries, bogies........the list goes on. I'd guess there is barely double figures that would be a straight re-number job from one to another. What fun :-)

Crikey, you're right. The 1:1 scale 37051 had seven chevrons on both sides (adjacent to the doors) and the model only has six. Interestingly, the model of 37026 has (correctly) seven distribution chevrons. The metals chevrons should be finer than depicted on the 37051 model. Trainspotter of the week goes to eefitter !!!

I have an Accurascale 37051 (dcc ready) which I would like to swap for a 37026 or 37027 (dcc ready). I grabbed the 37051 because it was available, but then found a sound fitted one, so now the first one is surplus to requirements. It's not been run as I currently don't have a layout, I just took it out of the box to gaze longingly at it. So it's basically mint condition. So if you'd like to swap, let me know.

For 37258 DCWA re-numbering, my first port of call would be 37263 and 37264. Maybe 37142? As for re-numbering options for a BR blue 37140 ; if you go past the Engineering general all over grey and into the Dutch period, full banger blue locos were few and far between. The man with the paintbrush certainly earned his money over that period !! 37170 was quite a late hanger-on (at least to July 1990), but was solidly Scottish.
