  2. I have similar not good for decoder wire but excelent for beefier bus wire. They will allow you to open up the insulation in the middle of a bus wire run to solder to. Chaz
  3. I filmed this just east of Reading a few years back Very precarious I would think!
  4. When I was 9 my uncle, who was a professor of veterinary medicine brought me an Airfix Wellington bomber which I made very badly (glue everywhere). This started a passion for me as a solitary child (long story boarding school) for building Airfix models. I probably built most of the Aircraft military vehicles and had 1000's of the soldiers available in 65-70 plus a few Revell kits. I found out later that the Wellington had a personal link to my uncle as his brother was a rear gunner in a wellington and he died when it was shot down.
  5. I use a track rubber with the corners cut back to fit inside the track and the edges cut to clear the 3rd rail! points are more difficult so I use 5-7mm strips of the track rubber and use them carefully.
  6. Having worked a a university for 34 years as a lab technician (Microbiology and Virology 16 yrs) then a computer officer for 18 years and building 400+ computers i(ncluding 2 25 computer arrays for DNA sequencing). I regularly came across academics who could not undo a nut but others who could build car motors and one who had restored a traction engine . To me it was down to the interest in a particular thing that gave the impetus to learn and try!
  7. I added after ballasting (easier to lay and level ballast!).
  8. It worked fine today! Ordered a body and seating as I have a spare coach someone gave me. Hope its just a straight swap. I can modify the underframe to match. then I will have to renumber the remaining coaches of the 4CEP set.

There are reviews on "Sams Trains" on YouTube. It seems a total piece of cheap rubbish the valve gear in particular.

  13. Having just been through this with a Hornby A2 Is it a short or a loss of contact ? Is the loco tender drive, 8 pin DCC ready, hard wired (details needed) If tender drive, then I assume not 8 pin ready Things to check:- 1 Clean Track 2 Clean Wheels 3 Clean the loco tender connections. 4 check the pick-up wipers are all touching the wheels. 5 The connection between the chassis and the rear bogie is reliable.
  14. Whilst attending my aunt’s funeral in Eire. Prior to going to the church, we all met up at her house. The house was the crossing Keepers house (she was the crossing keeper) we arrived driven by a 14 yr old girl who could hardly see over the steering wheel. We went in the men were in the front room with plenty of whiskey all women had to go in the kitchen! After about 10 mins the phone rang and a rather sozzled man who I did not recognise stood up and answered it (he was the relief gatekeeper for the day. There was a train due in 10 mins and the crossing gates (single line) needed opening for the train to pass 20 minutes later he stood up went out and opened the gates. Sure enough the train came around 5 mins later. I asked him why he took so long to open the gates. His reply was the driver was the brother-in-law of the stationmaster and that they would be having a good chat
  15. The shadows on the pavement seem to say 1 tree but the sun is very high so a second tree may not show up?
  16. If they sell a limited number then those who miss out but are desperate will pay over the odds. Then the buyers can make a profit see E-bay. Just look on E-Bay at the exaggerated prices that some things sell at! So a limited number will sell out but a larger number may stay on the shelves because the chiselers won't buy them.
  17. Worked with a guy called Richard Everard he was as soft as sh!t
  18. I lost interest at the final end of the Westerns! My interest had waned at the end of steam, but at least the Westerns Hymecs and Warships had a sort of individuality rather than the sameness of the 125's
  19. Trouble is BMW drivers seem to think a speed limit is a target not a limitation
  20. A handy tutorial on How to use a multimeter
  21. the way I have done this in the past is to use a spare wired 4 pin plug (e-bay from China) and use a multimeter to determine which pin is which with the blanking plug removed. Then solder inside the loco.
