Sankey Scenics
A quick post to let you know that my colleague Steve of Grimy Times (Weathering Specialist) has just relocated to retail premises. Grimy Times Model Railways took over a long established model railway specialist shop in Warrington, Cheshire. Following a week of extensive renovations, the shop opened for business today.Concentrating on British outline, the shop stocks a wide range of ready to run models and accessories from the main manufacturers. The shop stocks Hornby, Bachmann, Graham Farish, Peco, Modelscene, Gaugemaster, Wills, Ratio, Metcalfe, Sankey Scenics and Geoscenics. In addition a growing range of materials and accessories will be added to stock in the near future.Of course, Steve will still specialise in weathering and custom finished models including renaming and renumbering. An attractive display of locomotives is available for purchase in the new shop. A DCC fitting service is also available Opening times are 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. each day except Thursdays and Sundays. Grimy Times Model Railways can be found at 187 Orford Lane, Warrington, WA2 7BA.
sub39h
Been a customer of Steve's for three years now and had no idea he was getting a shop. Really happy for him, but a bit disappointed I won't be able to see how his layout is getting on when I pick up/drop off locos for him to work on. Wish him the very best of luck with his new venture.

Brian Hawkins
I wish Steve all the very best in his new venture, I to will miss my visits to his home and seeing his superb OO gauge model layout, its already been mentioned in this thread about Steve's weathering skills, god knows how much stock he has weathered for me over the last 4-5 years, I recommend that if anyone is thinking about having a model professionally weathered then pay a visit to his shop to see his work on display, you will not be disappointed. Ive595
It's good to see new shops opening up wherever they are, too many small shops are going out of business. Quality weathering from what I have seen. Best of luck Ivan
Waverley47708
I got a couple of 47/7s from Grimy times a few years ago. One was a renumber to Waverley 47708 (no surprises there) and one as a weathered 47712 Lady Di - very nice weathering job and agree a very nice guy to deal with. Arpleymodeller
Haven't been to the shop since Harry owned it as 'RAILWAY JUNCTION'. Good to see it continuing as a model shop, could have easily become something else! Will have to stop by when nearby.
60159
Congrats to Steve, and best wishes for every success with the shop. I just noticed this thread this morning which also explains the unfamiliar address for Grimy Times in the Hornby Magazine Dealer Directory. I'm primarily a steam man but also run the occasional green diesel on my own layout. Steve has done excellent work on my green diesels and in particular a superb Hornby 08 which is much admired when I'm allowed to sneak it onto our Alloa layout. (It is conceivable D3545 made the trip down the Devon Valley line from Perth to Alloa.) Incidentally, Alloa's next outing will be at Wakefield 20 - 22 November 2015 (lots of prep going on!) - come and see us. Some excellent new kit-built locos could appear including my cherished St Rollox Standard Caprotti 73148. Mike
Ross34
I see Steve's stand at north west shows quite often ..and very good it is too. Weathering in general is often way over done but Steve's subtle approach is just right IMHO...so much so my stuff will heading his way soon. Black 5 Bear
Steve Johnson is a "Master of his Art" with regards to weathering. Over the last couple of years, he's done some superb work on my stock. Excellent customer service with that personal touch. Forget the rest, Grimy Times is the best ! 37pits
I didn't realise there was a Grimy Times thread here. I further reinforce Black 5 Bear's comments. I've sent a few of my locos to Steve and his work is "par excellence".

ianmacc
Glad to see someone took on the premises. Most shops shut up shop when the owner retires. Visited there as railway junction when I lived in Warrington a few years ago. Edited December 5, 2018 by ianmacc
Andy Y
Just over a year ago I spent several sessions with Steve where he showed just what goes into some of his weathered products; when you see all this is shows what good value Grimy Times' services are.
