Brown Bear
Hi First post, I have had 3d printer for few months, being from Sheffield thought I should try doing Class 02. Used Design Spark to see how good it is. Here is pdf, pic of loco to follow 02 Aug 18.pdf
Brown Bear
Not sure if that pdf can be viewed so here is png
simon br blue
Looks like a good start. Are you going to make a printed chassis as well? What scale do you plan on printing it in?
Brown Bear
Hi To start with used Hornby 06 chassis which is a tight fit, pics show my first test print with Hornby couplings and buffers I had lying around. I have cnc machine glazing but only had 3mm, really need 2mm most. Now trying N-gauge print but going to try O and Gauge 1(I already have some gauge 1) Do you think there would be any interest if I produced it as kit? Wild Boar Fell
Nice work indeed, an I presume that has been printed on a FDM machine too which makes it even more impressive. Will certainly keep an eye on this thread. Regards, Wild Boar Fell
Marbelup
It is good to see that DesignSpark can produce a good model. I had a brief play with it about a year ago but haven't tried anything serious.
Brown Bear
I am going to print chassis for both oo and o gauge, can anyone recommend a supplier for motor/gears and wheels?
Brown Bear
Here are N to G scales, sorting out chassis next
simon br blue
Looking good. Was the gauge 1 model printed in one part? What orientation do you use for printing? Simon.
Brown Bear
The gauge one was in 2 parts, frame was printed upside down but that is problem as leaved issue with support detail on visible faces ie steps etc, adding some more detail next, going to get O gauge painted up and running next
Brown Bear
Photo of OO,O and gauge one prototypes, did these in November, alot more detail has been added in last two months after visit to actual loco
simon br blue
They look good, did you print the chassis'?
Crantock
Please bear with me if I post a few comments and suggestions for tweaks. I have just made up my second craftsman oo class as such am familiar with the ins and outs of the loco from that kit which is very good. It flags a few differences with yours and as you shouldn't build off a kit and you have clearly taken a good look at the prototype, who knows which is right. Firstly, you have clearly go the exhaust right. Craftsman's is wrong and i was left confused as to how it exited the cab roof etc. With hindsight provided by yours, I can see its a "Y" to two exhaust ports. Your measurements at the cab end of the bonnet look a bit awry. The gap between the door below the fuel vents and the main side doors looks too long and the tank top too far forward. The inset for the tank vents is jut an inset whereas yours is too deep a cutaway. I think the bonnet top handrails are a bit vertical. You need to add a glazing panel to the cab window. Anyway, I hope thse are critiques that would have been better a couple of months ago and that it lets you update the 3D. I regret not running my Craftsman through a mold before adding the detail but such is life. I was going to uploadsome images but having read Andy's guidance on quality I will go away and sort out the tripod and lighting
Crantock
As a comparator, here are 3 bad shots of a craftsman 02 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=105718983146097&set=pb.100011239864173.-2207520000.1453760021.&type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=105718976479431&set=pb.100011239864173.-2207520000.1453760021.&type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=105722099812452&set=pb.100011239864173.-2207520000.1453760021.&type=3&theater
Brown Bear
Hi This is the first 'Kit' 02 that I have printed for some one to make up in gauge one. Many changes since climbing over one at Peak Rail, Heritage Shunters(they have asked me to do class 06 next) I have been asked for Gauge 3 so doing a test, has to be done in at least 6 parts with laser cut chassis for weight and strength For oo have done chassis to fit High Level motor and box as Hornby 06 chassis to long, too high and too fast! D2200
Super work brown bear have you got any more pictures of the n gauge model ? Always fancied a small shunter shuffling a few mineral wagons around... Thanks Ben
Gordon A
For 00 - 4mm I would reccomend High Level gearboxes and Mashima motors. Depending on the cost I would be interested in a 4mm kit. Gordon A
Brown Bear
Hi As we are early days I am thinking £40 for 4mm kit, comes with glazing etc. I think the N-gauge may be too small but I will try again
