Glad to be of assistance.

What is amusing is that there are pictures of the Swindon fitted fire iron tunnel, in use on the Western Region, with the irons still stored on the tender. The "fix" it seems was worse than the problem.

Logical when you think about it.  if you've got the bar in while out on the road for whatever reason how on earth do you put it back into the tunnel without getting hold of a hot spot on it?  Far simpler to sling it round just holding the cooler part which hasn't been in the firebox than to have to manoeuvre it into the fireiron tunnel.
