'I was thinking; we've got 2x Christmas trees, if we put one in the living room and one in the conservatory than you could put an LGB track around each of them and have 2x running.'

Who are you? And what have you done with my wife....

I think you’ve missed a trick though.

with a tree in the living room and the conservatory coul you not have loop round each with tracks in between going round the rest of the downstairs have a real Santa express through your house.

pu wagon on the back  that can safely transport mrs s g favourite drink around for delivery and you should have her onside

The thought did cross my mind. Having to shut certain doors because of the dog makes that not work though. Decided we're just going to put LGB round the tree in the conservatory as there's a lot more space, so I'll get creative :)

Cool. No door with holes in for trains then.

hope you have a good Christmas.

How’s things going with the workshop/garden railway?

Workshop has walls, roof, doors... kinda lack insulation and I'm missing a part to fit all the power sockets properly so it's a bit nippy out there at the moment. I don't plan on doing any ground works for the railway over the winter, but I'm under instruction to dig a bigger pond when the weather gets better so I'll probably tie in the first loop of garden railway with that work.

It's now December so this is acceptable ;)

I had such big plans for this years Christmas layout; there was going to be an r2 oval outside of a R1 figure 8, 2 trains running... then found the space allocated was going to be too small :( ah well.

A big thank you to @Adrian Stevenson for sending a dozen lengths of flexi rail via the 'free to good home' section of the forum, they turned up earlier today :) Despite it being near Christmas, the wife is refusing to wrap them for some unknown reason.

I should have more than enough track now to get a loop of the garden done when the weather improves...

...Well, I say a loop of the garden; chatting with a friend a few days ago I mentioned I'd like to finally get it running this coming summer, and the wife's response was 'we'll see' so I don't know what else she has in mind for this coming year :(

Merry Christmas all.

Yes the layout is going to be analogue. No it doesn't need an entire rack to make that happen, the rack is for other things! ;)

2x big book cases and a 12ft workbench to raise on clearance legs next...

I’d be tempted to put some polystyrene between those battens too to control the extremes of temperature ;)

They've got rubber feet on the concrete... or is that not where you meant? Still a lot of insulating to do out there and it should be more temperature stable then.

12ft of work bench and 6ft of book shelves to put on similar legs next...

I was on about the uprights not the legs ;) Just thinking it’s easier before you put all the stuff in front, Insulated my dads shed through small openings and he was in trouble for days as the beads from cutting it followed him around ;)

Ah right! I get what you're on about. The rack isn't fitted down yet as I need to insulate and clad behind it still, but needed the plinth in place first.

any progress lately?

Book shelves are on legs and fitted to the walls ready for the track to run underneath... that was 2 days ago and is all I've managed to squeeze in since the plinth for the rack. Was hoping to do much more this week but wifey decided bedroom needs decorating instead :(

A bit of time for some more workshop activity. The workbench frame is now up on legs, it looks like 3 tracks should fit under it but I think I'd like to get some really big stock down to check... kinda missing a full worktop too, if anyone has any 30mm thick kitchen worktop off cuts they'd like to donate it would be helpful! :)

I think that's everything big and heavy up on legs now, I'll probably build covers for the rest of the track along that wall at a later date to keep things from fouling the line. But I can now think about laying track :)

As I'm in danger of being able to track along the length of the workshop, next bit that needs attention is outside the access doors. The garden has been cleared if tree stumps outside the front access now so that is clear and ready :)

However at the back there was a big mound of garden waste that needed moving out of the way so that was cleared this morning... just to leave the next problem in the way... need to do some shovelling!

Just shovel it to make some nice rockeries ;)

Just an idea from a lovely chap, Werner, I visited on Vancouver island a few years ago. :diablo_mini:

There was a good few big rocks that have been cleared to one side. Thinking of just digging a cutting and putting the rocks in each side of it. Maybe a short tunnel under a garden path winding it's way around the back there too. The gap from the access hatch to the wall is about 6ft, and there's a tree next to where I'm stood so unfortunately it's a little tight to fit a spiral in :(

Cleared and marked off the entire length of where track needs to run through the workshop :) the box under the workbench is full of track. Just need to clear the mound of earth behind the workshop and I can look at laying a simple loop of track :)
