Read my 121 review a couple of issues ago. Just passed the 117 on for photography. Didn't want to part with it but it was the wrong livery for me, anyway.Got a green one on order. (CJL)

Just read it. That is some recommendation. This and the 117 are shaping up to be a bit special. It seems I shall be tempted next week.Agree with comments about the Dapol stiff performance.Still a good model though. Thanks.

Did NSE 117s get out the Thames Valley much? On Flickr there's a picture of one at Neath in 1987 on a Swansea to Bristol service, but other than that I've not seen any pictures of NSE ones "off route".

Tempted by a Blue Grey one for my Weymouth area layout, but NSE just looks better! (sorry)

We had them in Cornwall (based off Laira and then Penzance) between 1994 and 1997.  They mainly worked the St Ives branch.  We also had the GW liveried set.  They first ran as 3 car sets (DMBS/TSL/DMCL or DMBS/TSL/DMS) and then 2 car sets (DMBS/DMCL or DMBS/DMS).

Some London buses. London Transport buses were predominantly AEC-powered.

That is true, although there were 1,631 RTLs and 500 RTWs plus some RMs had Leyland engines, as did some Fleetlines, although by that stage AEC had long been absorbed into the Leyland group. From an earlier generation, there had been the STDs and TDs.

Its a secret but we are half way through a 'NEW' DMU aimed at specific units we do not actually cover with the rasping exhaust, IE: 104, 114, 115, 116, 117.

The current test file is nice.

I know it’s a “how long is a piece of string” type question but any idea when this new file will be available?  I waited for your new 24/1 file and am glad I did.

Having avoided the Dapol products based upon the quality and finishing of some of their other recent items I am keen to see the Bachmann ones arrive in the mail quite soon now.  Maybe not quite so keen on the four-figure hit to my bank account but hey - my choice ;)

Having 4 Dapol ones in my fleet, I’m excited for the Bachmann offering. However the Dapol one is a cracking model. The Bachmann should have the better paint finish and I know some people had motor issues, am interested to see how people react to it, and even if the Bachmann one is considerably better, Dapol still have the 122

Looking forward to this "new" first generation DMU sound file.

I mentioned it a few times to Bif in the past - on his existing one you can't vary the length of the pull away in first gear.  It was always much too short; OK for moving around the yard but no good for normal acceleration under load.  Rest of the sounds were good IMO apart from the automatic rail clack cutting in which then didn't vary with different speeds. Also you couldn't change up through the gears manually.  Sorry to be pernickety, just my personal observations.

So I'm hoping these issues may be improved and we'll have a definitive heritage DMU sound at last!

Just ordered my chocolate and cream version from Kernow together with Bachmann PluX22 decoder so that the unit can be run pending the arrival/announcement of a "definitive" sound decoder from the sound specialists.

Kernow have now got the GWR 150 exclusives.

I can confirm this is the case. I hadn't seen this post and popped into their Guildford store today on my daily ramblings. Took me by surprise!

Interesting, however, that they hadn't received any of the other examples.

The others are not commissions.  The main Bachmann batches are not far behind however.

Sorry I guess my point being that it's interesting theirs were either part of an earlier production run or distributed first by Bachmann. Either way, I'm excited for them to be released!

Have to say that both the 117 and 121 look utterly superb. You surely can't look at those models and think they are not worth the price Bachmann are asking.

N Gauge next, please Mr. Bachmann!!

Maybe if you look back at old Hattons catalogs and see 108s for less than £60 you might feel differently, but I agree with the tech fitted and the look of the model they seem to be fabulous and worth the price

I've got loads of mags with hundreds of ads for thousands of models for low prices but they all seem to have sold out years ago. :mad_mini:

The book price for my 1971 TR6 when new was just over £1,200.  It’ll now cost you the best part of £18,000. That’s life.

I completely agree, as someone who often defends price rises, due to the improvements in human rights, higher costs of living etc. I did not mean to come across as bashing Bachmann or saying why can’t we still have 2012 prices. However, my point was,not new models are overpriced (some can be questionable) it was just how interesting the price has risen, I took the 108 as it’s a Bachmann dmu that has been relatively unchanged, and has risen significantly. And we often forget how much models used to be, anyway back on topic, eagerly anticipating these dmus hoping Bachmann can do more variants in due course!

That's not too bad at all.

The Bank of England reckon £1200 in /71 is around £17200 now.
