Hi Jinty,

Nice very impressive!

May I ask, did you weather inside the cab/take the cab off?

Also did you get Paul C to fit the sound decoder for you, I read in one mag how he improved the shunting lighting etc....was that done to yours?

ATB,

CME

Hi CME,

No the cab was not removed, and I fitted Paul Chetters sound decoder myself and also coupled it to one of my own speakers that I do for the 08.

The detail added includes: upgraded vac pipe using slaters vac pipe springs, wipers front and back using Giles's wiper pack and air piping from a spare Heljan sprue I had laying around.

I hope that answers your question.

Jinty ;)

Good question about the cab CME.  I just painted a driver figure and I'm starting to mull over weathering mine.  It would be nice to be able to remove/dismantle the cab - I just haven't got round to investigating yet.

John

Hi John,

Removing the cab voids the warrenty evidently, buyer beware

Thanks Jinty, similar to mine, I have yet to fit a DCC decoder though, and may not bother with the lighting upgrade. Cant make up my mind if a strip down of the body is worth it, but kinda feel that the cab interior needs weathering?

John

There was a blow by blow description of how to dismantle the whole thing in previous posts when the 08 first came out, hopefully that may be of help.

The glue holding the bonnet moulding to the frames isn't budging on mine so I can't get the cab off to add a driver. This is despite

removing all the screws. Very frustrating!!

That's a shame, as the decoder fitting is simplicity itself. Can you just have the driver standing in the open-doorway?

I wonder what type of glue was used and whether a gentle de-bonder would get the glue gone??

The weight of the numbers and data panel is spot on, which product did you use. For me it’s this that often lets a model down, not in this case though, stunning!

It was one of these products here:

7mm-C0804: Complete loco: BR blue class 08 w/ your number

http://www.railtec-models.com/showitem.php?id=2362

7mm-9092: Renumber TOPS loco incl data panels:

http://www.railtec-models.com/showitem.php?id=2839

Hope this helps,

Steve

Are similar packs available for green loco's please?

If they are not available from the Website shop, then an e-mail to Steve will usually help in getting some custom numbers made up. They just take longer to do.

I use the 'Contact us' facility on the Railtec website.

I've seen some comments about no response from Railtec to e-mails, but I've always had a response and excellent service. Longest I've had to wait is a week, but they do get busy.

No connection, just a satisfied customer.

I have been waiting for eleven months and despite phoning I have heard nothing.

That's odd as I simply don't publicise a phone number (one or two people do have it) else I'd spend all day every day doing little else other than fielding phone calls which would go something like, "No, I haven't got to it yet that's why there's been no update." I do get more emails than Don Trump and, as the blurb on the link below says - as well as every email footer - it's a physical impossibility to respond to all of them in a timely manner. Some emails have been known either not to reach me, or my responses to queries not reach the recipient because they get filtered into Junk or the recipient's inbox is full (this isn't uncommon). They do go through a third party web provider at my end as well as everyone's email client at your end e.g. Sky, BT, TalkTalk etc - all of which have different filter settings for incoming emails. Some jobs do get logically grouped together and in some instances there are lengthy wait times. It's a hugely niche specialist service and product. There's often a lot of research, design and test printing goes on behind the scenes and so there's just no way of getting round the fact that wait times for some jobs are unavoidable (some custom jobs such as simple complete loco numbersets usually get turned around extremely quickly). If some projects absolutely cannot wait and some folks need to go elsewhere - I have nothing against that. Those who understand what's involved in making quality transfers and are happy to wait receive a product that many consider as superior.

When you say happy to wait, well I've been waiting since March and still no reply, and when I tried to check my original query I got given a different number. So your transfers maybe superior, but your website/ordering system certainly isn't.

This isn't the thread to discuss email traffic but as it's been brought up here, so I shall respond. If it's the "Martyn" I think it is that I can find from March this year re 7mm then I replied requiring further info within 48hrs but never received a response. See earlier comment about some emails getting filtered into recipients' Junk or bouncing back due to mailboxes being full. Suggest you email info@railtec-models.com and continue the topic offline. Thankfully 99+% of folks seem to find the web site absolutely fine to use but inevitably with technology there will be exceptions.

Are similar packs available for green loco's please?

Hi Andy, are any of the two packs below of help?

7mm-9989: Renumber pre-TOPS loco incl data panels

http://www.railtec-models.com/showitem.php?id=2838

7mm-9990: Renumber pre-TOPS loco

http://www.railtec-models.com/showitem.php?id=2938

I'll be releasing a parallel "complete loco pack" for the BR green version of the 08 in due course. If this is what you would prefer then let me know.

Thanks,

Steve

Fair play Steve,

Looking at the post above, I'll wait until the " complete loco pack " is available for green locos and give it another try. It is strange as I do check my junk mail from time to time, and usually it's just adverts for viagra etc, not that I need them : )

Steve,

I am right in thinking that the two packs you've linked to can be ordered with any loco number?

I asked the question originally, because I couldn't see anything specifically for green era 08's on the website.

They can indeed Andy. They're just generic "loco number of your choice" packs (if you can call them that). Folks just pop as many into the basket as they need, and once check-out is complete I send an email asking which loco number(s) people would like. It's just an easy and versatile way of getting complete loco numbers made to suit which can be applied in one easy hit, removing the need to cut out and line up individual numbers which I know many of us find a hassle!

Whiles Steve has covered the issues with the long queue for bespoke transfers, I can say that I have twice bought the complete loco packs from his website and on both occasions everything was remarkably quick, bearing in mind they must be specially printed with the desired number on.
