RMweb Premium Kris Posted July 21, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 21, 2016 Picked up the 64xx the morning. A very smooth runner. Not whisper quiet but much quieter than most Dapol locos. It's got slightly finer details than the Dapol 57xx, particularly with the handrails.
D826
Looking forward to 6417 entering service on my compressed version of Tintern Kris. That'll complete the loco roster. Best regards Matt Wood
RMweb Premium Kris Posted July 23, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 23, 2016 Finally had a chance to get some photos of the 64xx. I have also placed it next to a Dapol 57xx for comparison. The detail on the 64xx is finer, particularly on the handrails, connecting rods and brake rods. The hex bolts on the 64xx are a shame however. RMweb Premium Kris Posted July 23, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 23, 2016 Mine is now run in and has performed reasonably well for haulage, 39 axels without slipping, but once I hit 45 axels it would not restart on the 1 in 50 slope. And finally. The photos of both together do nothing to dispel the idea that al GWR locos are the same.
RMweb Gold TomE Posted July 23, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2016 It is a shame about the hex bolts when the connecting rods are so fine, but it also highlights how banana shaped that Dapol 57xx is! Tom.
SRfanJV
So this little beauty turned up this morning. Running beautifully straight from the box and apart from the hex bolts looks absolutely stunning.
RMweb Premium Nig H Posted August 14, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 14, 2016 and apart from the hex bolts looks absolutely stunning. Here's some pics of a Fairburn I converted to two mil finescale. I think the kit I used would work for the standard 4MT too. Not sure if it would work with the N gauge wheels retained though. You would need to file the GF crankpin flush with the wheel then insert a Two Mil Assoc crankpin in the centre of the remaining GF crankpin. RMweb Premium Crepello Posted August 23, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2016 I think we can abandon this thread now as there are dedicated threads for the 64XX and the Standard 4MT tank loco.
