Photo's Of East Yorkshire Railways

Recommended Posts

Incredible. Anyone who has ever been round a loco works in steam days will have seen one...yet how many photos do you see? I suppose that, as lads, the locos were the stars. I remember HUGE discussions at the Plant as to how much of a loco had to be seen in order to write down it's number? If it were reduced to frames. was that OK? etc etc....... The older lads, not needing the cop, of course, strictly policed our notebooks...........

Thank you, Mick, for that photo' of the wheel turning lathe at Springhead. Fascinating to see it.

Tonight, a look at Flamborough from the summer of this year. It is very overgrown compared to the steam age views.

A Transpennine DMU heads for Hull leaving Brough. I think the points on the left were from the lifted Up Slow from Hull ?

Electric lights.

Were they emergency lamps then ? They were definitely oil, but a make more commonly associated with the LMS IIRC.

A filthy 55018 heads west at Brough 5 days before Christmas 1980.

And 3 months later 55018 again out of focus   you can see the original Brough station in the background and there was a very nice chippy here also.

Thank you, Mick, and PinzaC55 for your photo's. They are such welcome additions to this thread.

Tonight, a photo' of one of the preserved class 14 Teddy Bears.  This dates from some five years ago, and was taken at the NRM, York. It is appropriate because for a time in the mid-sixties, some of the class worked in Hull.

I didn't visit Seamer very often except to change trains for the Hull line so I only have a few shots. This is the main building in 1978 still with a Tickets and Parcels office.

The unique feature of the station was that when a new Seamer East box was built the original was allowed to stand so here it is looking over the newcomer's shoulder.

In about 1993 the old box was still intact but looking a bit threadbare; it has since been demolished.

In 1978 the goods shed had been partially demolished giving it a very strange appearance.

In November 1978 a Hull DMU waits to depart Seamer. The waiting room had an excellent fire (coal IIRC) which kept me like toast till my York train arrived. Note the EYMS bus passing over the level crossing.

Thank you, Mick, and PinzaC55, for your photo's, I do like seeing them. They add to the historical record of the Hull to Scarborough railway line.

Tonight, I am going over to York, on 23rd April, 2010. First, at platform 1 is 158844, then in the next photo' is an IC 225 with 91119, on a train to London Kings Cross.
