Good evening, everyone. This evening we have a photo’ by Syd Young on Flickr, of a class 20 hauled train soon to depart Hull Paragon station for Bridlington. It was the 13th September, 1979, and 20133 is seen waiting before departing with the 16:40 Hull to Bridlington service.

If the branches to Hornsea and Withernsea etc were around still when they arrived it may have been possible if still highly unlikely but otherwise I’d be very surprised as there’s nowhere suitable for them to work with their 40mph restrictions etc.  They were unpopular with train crews as they needed two drivers when in ‘multiple’ and didn’t stay long.

It was the loss of the branches that made the 14s pointless sadly

Good evening, everyone. This evening I have found a photo’, again by Syd Young on Flickr, of Cottingham, on the 25th August, 1979. It shows a double headed train by 37161 and 40119, and the identity of the train would appear to be the 11.12 London Kings Cross to Scarborough, and, apparently 37161 came to the rescue of a failed 40119 at Gilberdyke.

And something extra for today. It is a hastely taken photo’ from a train I was on approaching Bridlington station. It shows the redundant track and signalling being broken up prior to being taken away for scrap - unless some signal parts can be used on a preserved line.

Good evening, everyone, and this evening, again courtesy of Syd Young on Flickr, we have a photo’ of a four car hybrid class 123/124 DMU with a refurbished class 101 two car set bringing up the rear, at Broomfleet, on the 5th April, 1983 on a service to Manchester. Car E52104, a class 123 DMSL is leading.

Good evening, everyone. Well, courtesy of Simon-E, on Flickr, we are looking at a photo’ of Market Weighton station in what looks like the Spring of 1964. A four car DMU, composed of two two car class 105’s is coming to a stop on a Hull to York service. The photo’ was taken from the station footbridge. Two months to today, on the 27th November, it will be 61 years ago when the last train ran.

A sad sight to see - 7 and 8 starters down. End of an era.

Good afternoon, everyone. Well, Graham, I wondered who might be the first to notice the error in my calculations, as Captain Mainwaring might have exclaimed in Dad’s Army. ;)

Well, this afternoon we are coming up to date, with a photo’ of a class 170 Turbostar, on the 13.08 departure from Beverley to Hull and Sheffield. The unit being 170474. It was taken, by myself, whilst out on a walk, at England Springs crossing to the south of Beverley Station this afternoon. Please note, I was on the correct side of the fence.

Probably the best train type in Northern’s fleet at the moment. I find them more comfortable than the newish 195/331s, and less claustrophobic than the 333s on the Aire Valley with their maddeningly loud on board announcements.

Good evening, everyone. It’s great to finally be back. Firstly, there’s no answer to that, Boris. ;)  So, I’ll get on with tonight’s photo’, which once more is courtesy of Syd Young on Flickr. It shows a bitterly cold and snowy scene from the bitter winter of 1991. Class 47, 47536, “Solario”, is to be seen waiting for the signals, in the snow, on the high-level freight line, near Anlaby Road, with Ferryvans bound for King George Dock on the 9th February, 1991.

How do I turn photos the right way up?

Hello @Railpassion,

If they were taken with a camera phone I think the issue is when you are taking the photo itself.

I've found that I have to keep an eye on the camera symbol on the phone itself and depending how I am holding the phone at the time depends which way up the image is stored, sometimes I have to turn the phone around to get the camera icon to be the correct way up and not upside down.

I might be wrong about this but that's what I've found when taking some of my own photos.

Regards,

Ian.

Assuming taken on the phone there is probably access to a previewer/editor. Those should have a rotate option, assuming yes  select 180deg if allowed or do 90deg twice. As others have said the cause is taking the photo with the phone upside down.

Date of photo', late summer 1964. I presume the wheel less wheel barrow originated to carry ballast for platelayers when leveling and packing.
