Were they ever (could they be) run as 2x4 with the gangway ends together to make a sensible 8-car set with walk through? Saw the combos but don’t recall multiples. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted September 14, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2021 Good evening, everyone. Well, this evening I have found this photo’, by Syd Young on Flickr, of Deltic, 55004, Queen’s Own Highlander. There is a plume of white smoke as she is backing on to the stock of 1A28, the 16:30 Hull to London King's Cross service, on Friday the 8th May, 1981. There is a refurbished class 101 unit alongside. I believe the platforms are now numbers 6 and 7. Easy Does it... by Syd Young, on Flickr And now, for this evening, a complete contrast, in a second photo’, by ricsrailpics, on Flickr, of Beverley station gardens, as they were on the 27th August, 1965. Such a colourful display, and I recall the gardens winning several prizes. A shame we don’t have such gardens today. Were the cabs altered with the sealing of the gangways, can't remember what they looked like but I suspect they would be similar to a gangwayed EMU

There was no alteration to the cabs when the gangway was sealed up. And they layout was very similar to most gangway fitted driving vehicles. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted September 19, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 19, 2021 Good evening, everyone. Firstly, russ p, those signals, and I’m sure Mick will agree with me, were red and green since they were starting signals. Now, this evening, courtesy of a photo’ by Syd Young on Flickr, it is time to see a large logo blue, 47 at Hull Paragon station. It shows 47539, Rochdale Pioneers, as it arrives with train 1D01, the 09:44 Kings Cross to Hull on the 8th July, 1987. It looks resplendent in the summer sun. 47539 - Hull Paragon by Syd Young, on Flickr Best regards, Rob.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted September 21, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 21, 2021 Good afternoon, everyone. Courtesy of Syd Young on Flickr, we have a bit of an oddity this afternoon, with a class 124 DMC, then a class 123 TCL, and a class 101, refurbished unit. I don’t recall such a particular formation before. I do recall a four car 123/124 unit coupled to a two car 101, but not like in this photo’. The details of this train are car E51955 leading a train into Hull Paragon on the 29th August, 1979. An emergency screw coupling was carried in the emergency cupboard. It was deemed if a screw coupling was fitted it would damage the junction box below. The MetCamm on the rear of this formation was not that unusual at this time as there was a shortage of serviceable power cars due to engine/gearbox supplies. Wow was that a regular turn? I don’t know why but seeing 20s on passenger services always makes me think third world country as they looked antiquated and inappropriate for passenger trains even back then. It may be that they look like the switcher type affairs that African countries etc use. Yes I’m aware that pairs of them were used on Skegness services among others.
