Good evening, everyone. Firstly, lmsforever, I do agree with you, that that Deltic had been allowed to get into a bad state, which was very sad. Now, this evening we stay in Driffield, and thanks again to the KDH archive on Flickr, we see another photo’ of the East Coast Pullman Salute, hauled by 37037 and 37102, which was on the 20th May, 1978. We last saw the train, in an earlier photo’, on the Cricket Ground Curve in Hull.

Just shows the extent of effectiveness of the mechanical washing plants, that were designed for coaching stock and therefore missed the bits on locos that curved inwards from the standard Mk1 profile.

 

Sat in the right hand seat, the fitness of the inner mechanicals were of more importance than beake dust, especially the boiler which looks to be in fine order.

 

A former colleague once went to check the boiler on a 55 when a fault light came up, he just got past the engine when it threw a piston, the driver had eased off counted to 30 then to give Paul chance to pass the engine (not that it made much difference you still got deafened regardless) then opened up and bang.

Driver stopped in a heap convinced that Paul would be seriously injured or worse fortunately only a change of trousers were required.

This evening, thanks to a photo’ by Syd Young on Flickr, we can see a lovely night shot of Deltic, 55002, The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry after having arrived with train 1D04, the 17.05 London King’s Cross to Hull, in Hull Paragon station. The date is the 29th December, 1979. KOYLI is, of course, now preserved in the national collection.

We can see Thornaby 47, 47360 on the 09.32 Birmingham to Scarborough service. It is clearly a warm, sunny summers day, the train is bound to be full.

Good morning, everyone. I’m feeling rather saddened by the news about Beverley station footbridge this morning. It looks like it will be renovated without it’s quite unique roof. Here’s a link to the Driffield and Wold’s Weekly newspaper. It gives full details of what is proposed and the reaction.

If it goes ahead as proposed, Beverley station will not look the same, and our railway heritage will have lost something most unique.

I don't know a huge amount about this photograph, but here goes.

 

A photo of Muston Crossing box on what is now an AHB on the A165 between Cayton and Filey, I think its from the early 1950s showing what we think is the local signalling inspector (the bobby is visible in the cabin), sourced via a friend who has access to the Filey archives.

 

I was going to put this in the signal box thread, but I like this thread more.

Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Boris, for posting that period photo’ of Muston crossing box. It’s a good photo’ of the box, and hopefully more information will be forthcoming about it.

This evening, courtesy of another photo’ from the KDH archive on Flickr, we stay at Seamer, and see 31146, of Immingham, going by on the 09.15 Chesterfield to Scarborough service on that same day as before, the 15th August, 1981. Such a lot of extras ran back then, for today it’s such a pale shadow of how it was.

I'm sure I've heard somewhere that this signal box is preserved at Murton on the Derwent Valley Line, can anyone confirm this ?

Isn’t it nice to have this site going along at the speed of the High Speed Train.   Well, this evening, a place which was actually quite important if only because of the nearby school. It’s number 60938, and it dates from the mid fifties. It’s interesting to note the Army poster on the wall to the left. I can’t recall the last time I saw such a poster.

Good evening, everyone. Thank you, Mick, for the information about the year. It is always most helpful when you point out things like that late crest and the poster. Please continue to post corrections when necessary.

Now, this evening we have a photo’ by Syd Young, on Flickr, which shows a Deltic, 55017, The Durham Light Infantry, at Selby coming into the station on an up service. It is train 1A08, the 08.07 York to London King’s Cross, on the 29th December, 1981, in sub zero temperatures with just two days of Deltic operations left to go.

Can narrow it down l think to summer 1962. 

 

The V2 was reallocated to Doncaster March 1962 (from New England) and withdrawn at Doncaster 1st October 1962.

 

Quite a lucky catch and possibly the last photo of the loco.

Good evening, everyone. That, Simon, is fascinating how you have narrowed, right down, the time of that photo’ of V2, 60938. Thank you for that detective work which has yealded a great result. And, Mick, it interesting to hear about the Army poster appearing in MRN c1962.

Well, this evening, time for another photo’ by Syd Young, on Flickr. It shows a most atmospheric and historical scene of Deltic 55012, Crepello, at Hull Paragon station on the 21st February, 1979. Plenty off staff and enthusiasts look on as it backs onto the stock which will form train 1A28, the 16.45 Hull to London King’s Cross.
