Glendevon extension

Another update on the glendevon extension with work concentrating on static grassing of the layout, it had been suggested that it's the norm to do the track and electrical work first and THEN the scenics but, my argument is that soing the scenics is messy and it is all too easy to get plaster etc in or on the track so I decided to do the basic scenic work first and avoid and messy accidents. One station building has been completed save for the glazing with the others to be done soon.

Again more progress has been made with the glendevon extension with all droppers in and also point motors but a start has yetto be made on the wiring proper. Above the station buildings are progressing steadily with the slates being added gradually (takes a while doing them one at a time), the main station building has also had its first coats of paint, also the signal box has had some painting done.

A little update on the extension, all of the legs have been revised to make the centre board a stand alone with the outer ones with a set at either outside end. All the legs are permanently fixed and fold up into the framework for ease of transport. Screw in bolts/brackets have been used to keep the legs in place when stowed, also all the diagonals for each board are also stored within the framework of each board (less to leave behind at shows).

Some more progress on the extension with more work being undertaken on the landscape and the bridge finally planted into the layout. We are going for a late summer-early autumn with lots of colours in the mix to add variety. The base level of grass is done. There is longer grasses etc coming in the post, together with hedging and more trees, the layout will be very heavily wooded with thick groups of trees along the rear and at both ends of the layput but these again will be varied in size type and colour to give the autumn look.

The footbridge has also been competed material wise and just needs painting but this will be done later.

I like the evolution of your static grass scenery. May I ask what brand of static grass used and in particular what type of glue do you use between layer aspplications to secure the next round of static grass on the last layer?

Many thanks, Andy R

Hi.

Looking good.  Are coping stones planned for bridge wing walls and adjacent retaining wall?  Your prototype earlier in thread shows former.

Is the water crane shown just a "place holder"?  I think I might have a Mikes Models NBR one, if that would help.

Declaration of interest: I was involved with both of the earlier extensions when a member of the club, many years ago!

Regards,

John Howell

Looks very nice. I've always admired Glendevon in various shows across Scotland . Beautiful layout. I've watched the terminus being shunted many a time . A really good operating layout for an exhibition.  When will it appear with the new extension?  Do you have any Exhibition dates yet?

Yea the coping stones will be added as soon as time permits. I intend to use the same foam i used on the bridge walls as its easy to work with and also easy to paint. The platform will also be similarly done.

Yes indeed an NB water column would be most useful. I had intended to use a skaledale lner platform mounted example but theses are now hard to find and when you do find them theyre going for stupid money. So yes and that way itd match the other ones on glendevon.

Yes i also enjoy shunting glendevon, ofcourse at a show its busier that clapham junction to keep something moving, which is part of the reason this extension is being made in order to make it a little more balanced as at the moment if the station is full with freight and passenger workings there is very little happening at the fiddle yard end save for shunting the brewery siding. We are aiming to have it conplete by next year. Mind you we said that last year but its certainly getting closer.

Its been many weeks since i have been on and added an update on the glendevon extension so....

the layout has been ballasted and wired up to allow test runs and the points are all motorised and work very well, a few niggling gremlins but this is the way of the world.

work continues on the scenics but the backscene needs finishing before this can really be done and finished.
