If you do have pics of those models, please do post them.

Just popped back - these were running earlier but are in the cabinet now. Just a word on this one guys, I have no idea if these are finished products or engineering samples, so these pics may not indicate the quality of the finishes engines. That being said:

I would have liked to look at the 08 link but Kaspersky says it's not to be trusted and won't let me.

Indeed a £400 Dapol A4 in 'OO'. It looks to set a new benchmark for quality in rtr form tho - all have synchro smoke, DCC sound and working lamps. They have the actual models on the stand as well and they look utterly incredible

For that price, I hope it has Magnedesion as well.

I'm using the Amazon photo cloud to host the pictures - got no idea why Kaspersky might not like it, but there isn't any risk or problems with it - uploaded from my phone using the official app

Pricing seems to be in the same ball park as what Broadway Limited charge for their "Hybrid Paragon" series locos.

Out of interest, with regard to this new Super Dapol A4, why is it that they always start with the LNER pacifics? It's always these big, flashy locos. Why not start with a really decent model of Emmanuel Clegg?

Collectors. Together with that vocal sector of the enthusiast community who seem to think the only things worth modelling are one off freaks and other big shiny celebrity stuff. It's the model railway equivalent of all those who read "Hello" magazine, in thrall to shiny celebrities and escapism.

I just hope that all those who have loudly been saying that they would willingly sell a kidney or their children to pay for the ultimate hi-fi loco actually vote with their wallet on this one. It's a brave move by Dapol.

I must thank Edge (our fellow RMwebber) for going through all the trouble of posting pics! Thank you sooooo much.

Seconded, it's nice to see the photos of everything even if nothing has appeared to tempt me bar possibly the HST prototype.

I had intended to go to Warley on Sunday (can't stand Saturdays, my rugby playing days of scrumming are long past) but unfortunately my local cinema is showing "A Matter of Life and Death" tomorrow afternoon which is one of my favourite films, and I would love to see it on the big screen rather than DVD. So, David Niven versus a 200 mile round trip to listen to a bunch of complaining hygienically challenged armchair modellers armed with backpacks and no sense of direction or common courtesy. Sorry, the lure of the popcorn was greater.

All good day at Warley today making the 0530 departure from Hampshire worthwhile! Reason for early start is to use the excellent (free) Tile Hill car park and travel in to International for a couple of quid and also taking advantage of the 1/2 hour early admission by advance booking- definitely worthwhile!!

Couple of observations:

1. It didn't seem as busy today as previous years? Big crowds, but I was able to get good views of the 'showpiece' layouts without much hassle!

2. The lighting in Hall 5 is still cr*p! Its it still very 'orange' and frankly I don't know how the exhibitors of my age manage to get through 2 days without developing migraines from peering int he gloom!! Not Warley's fault I know, but surely the NEC could do better?

3. Am I wrong or were there fewer big tail-chasing 'show layouts' this year? Don't get me wrong, some fantastic layouts; 'Worlds End' jaw-droppingly good, Crewlisle showing what can be squeezed into a small space without compromising on detail and operating interests. However, there didn't seem to be as many as previpus years. Which leads me on to;

4. More traders than layouts? Is Warley turning into a trade fair? Don't get me wrong, I can back with a lighter wallet although I tend to go for scenic/detailing stuff and its fantastic to get the range of specialist suppliers to have a good look at trees, buildings, etc. and which only an exhibition such a s Warley can host.

So; conclusion; Different but well worth the trip.

Thanks to all of the organisers, exhibitors and traders who make the annual pilgrimage to the Midlands so worthwhile.

I think I agree with all 4 points Andy

Did any early dash from Bristol - 3 hours in the show with far less pushing and shoving than normal then back by 3 - all by train - maybe they are leaving bigger spaces between layouts and stands?

Visitors space was only adequate from 9.15 up to 11.15 ish this morning. Beyond that it was beyond the joke and I bailed out early. It should also be renamed "The OO Show" - very little in it for supporters of other gauges. The total cost to me for about two hours was about £55 which is bad value for money. The local shows are now outclassing this as a VISITOR experience.

From a VISITORS point of view Hall 5 is just not big enough.

I would disagree with the part about then gauges. I seemed to struggle to find many OO layouts to watch! Though the shops are mainly OO there seems to be allot more N than any previous years have offered.

The space between the stalls was defiantly bigger though I always think this is due to less traders every year.

I even managed to see the Bachmann reduced stand this year without much queuing! Though they wanted £95 for a damaged silverlink Class 350 :O  . ehattons have it new for £99. I just hope no one brought that and then finds out they could of got it new for only £4 more later.

As soon as I got back it was DCC Chipping time for me!  :blum:

Seemed to me the lights dimmed around 2pm - presume that's when it started raining. I found World's End crowded to get at but, agreed, what an absolutely fantastic layout. It's interesting to note the number of layouts that have large bridges as centrepieces. Clearly includes Hassel Harbour Bridge which is equally fantastic

Organisers deserve massive congratulations.

That's such a bold move. It will be fascinating to see how this goes down.

Paul

I sense a move towards the 'quality' end of the market.Limited runs of 320....400 for "Mallard". High spec stuff, looking at the printout I have in front of me.The sample is eye catching.A better shape than its Golden Age competitor....at ,it has to be said ,less than half the asking price.I think Dapol senses it needs to re establish itself in the market and seems to be opting to go from the gorblimey to the sublime in one leap. Exciting times ahead.
