Flood
I've been thinking Basingstoke, looking East. From Ryan Hayward on Flickr Edited September 27, 2020 by Flood 1 1
eastwestdivide
Basingstoke would make sense for the signal with two left feathers visible in the background of the 307 pic. One for up fast line to up slow and one for up fast to Reading line 2
RMweb Gold 5BarVT Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 27, 2020 Another vote for Basingstoke. The disused bay to the left of the 307 looks like what I remember. Paul.
Wickham Green too
....... and that odd roof sticking above the canopy certainly matches.
pH
... and the pylon in the far distance. (I don’t think that was there in 1965.)
jonny777
Thanks everyone. Basingstoke it is.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted September 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 28, 2020 Very interesting picture and in my view definitely Basingstoke because as far as I can recall the some of the DC tests with the set were carried out on the South Western. I did some ISA - Independent Safety Assessment - work for that test project.
jonny777
This may be straightforward to those in the know, but I just don't recognise this long shed, or the buildings at the back on the left.

jonny777
Thanks Wickham and Hillside. I was concentrating on WR, which was my big mistake.
jonny777
This negative is something of a mystery. I think it may be in the Sheffield area, purely because the two identifiable locos are D3159 and D2407 which were both cut up at CF Booths Rotherham. It may even be in their reception sidings, circa 1967.
Wickham Green too
That logic's somewhat awry as it would only fit D3159 ( withdrawn 9/67, cut 4/68 ) ....D2407 wasn't withdrawn until January '69 and cut August '70. The Spring '62 Loco Shed Book lists D2407 as allocated to Lincoln and D3159 to Immingham so somewhere in that neck of the woods is more likely.
great central
Only looking at this on my phone but D3159 looks like it could have new wheelsets and rods, whereas D2407 has the rods off. So is it possibly a works yard? The B1 in the background looks rather forlorn as well, either withdrawn or waiting works? More questions than answers I'm afraid but another avenue to explore? jonny777
Thanks for your thoughts. The loco which is next to D2407 has a barely readable number, but it looks like D2510 which was also cut up at Booths. However, it was a Rugby loco before withdrawal and confuses the issue even further.
RMweb Premium iands Posted October 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 21, 2020 And D2407 wasn't a Lincoln loco after 1963, last allocation I believe was Barrow Hill, not that this helps much in narrowing down the location, sorry.
pH
Can you read the B1’s number?

I actually think the last is a 2 or it looks like it on my screen so 61XX2, still alot to choose from. It's not named (unless it's been removed) so we can rule out some of the early ones such as Impala etc

Odd to remark but a similar thought crossed my mind. I am fairly sure that it is a shed yard 'somewhere' and the presence of the B1 (which looks to be in traffic as it shows no obvious signs of being stored) plus mention of ER allocations for the shunters as well as the nature of the ground definitely leads me to the conclusion that it is a running shed 'somewhere'. A potential giveaway for Carr loco is all those telegraph wires although that could no doubt be said of plenty of other places, including Lincoln. jonny777
I don't think Lincoln would have such a flat featureless horizon as that. I'm sure you would be able to see something of the city behind.
