RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted March 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 28, 2020 The Class 31 was 31407 also in mainline livery. 73133 was also provided by Mainline Freight for the gala along with 33109, 37074 and 31407
RMweb Premium iands Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2020 Bought some more slides off ebay. No details I'm afraid so I'm seeking RMwebber's help once again in identifying a location please. Some of the slides I have been able to identify because it was easy (Birmingham New St), however, these 3 I'm struggling with, but maybe they are in the Birmingham/West Midlands area - but then again maybe not! I assume all 3 are the same location (but then again, maybe not as the sky/weather is different in the first photo, so different day and probably different location), a carriage siding/yard somewhere. SM42
The last one looks like Duddeston or was it known as Vauxhall then? Vauxhall Shunt Frame, now known as Aston Signaling Centre on the left (this end of teh box is Aston SC, the far end still Vauxhall Shunt Frame) Vauxhall flyover in the distance Train is on slow lines, Photgrapher on down carriage siding with I think New Street's 75 (?) signal in the foreground Middle one could be Oxley, view from the signalbox Andy Edited March 29, 2020 by SM42 add details
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 29, 2020 I strongly suspect that the middle one is Oxley - the WR signal is something of a clue. 1

There is another slide in the batch that is definitely Duddeston, but I hadn't connected it with any of the other slides (not knowing the area, I didn't want to assume they were all connected in some way - I've made that mistake before).

RMweb Premium iands Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2020 Here's another 3, some or all maybe at the same locations already identified and would be grateful for confirmation. Something unusual (for me at least) in the 3rd photo are the sub-signals, I've not come across this type before.
SM42
Middle one Oxley again from Wolverhampton end of viaduct. Oxley chord line diverging to right in foreground First one Basford Hall South looking towards Stafford? (Sheer guess) Last one Willesden?? again a guess Andy Edited March 29, 2020 by SM42 can't tell left from right

You’ve pushed me to look closer and through the bridge is a box in just the right place and with just the right look for Basford Hall. Over to the locals to confirm, and give a feel for the date. RMweb Premium iands Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2020 Further thanks to SM42, DY444 and 5BarVT for their knowledge of an area that I'm (obviously) not very familiar with. Some more to follow shortly.
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2020 (edited) I assume the tram wire OHLE at Oxley is a bit of a giveaway, for slow speed movements only. Edited March 29, 2020 by melmerby
RMweb Premium iands Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2020 The next 3 photos I don't think are related to each other, although they may well still be in the West Midlands somewhere. The first has redundant bridge abutments that will be useful to someone in identifying the location (I can't make out the details on the signal plate). The second shows some track rationalisation has taken place, and the tanks in the sidings on the left may provide a clue. And thirdly, judging by the signal plate details (WL 31), Walsall? As an aside, love the chap on the right in a trilby (or similar hat).

Fat Controller
Is the second one of the WM views heading south on the Stour Valley line between Coseley and Tipton? The tanks would be at South Staffordshire Wagons, one of whose sidings was virtually at right angles to the main line.

RMweb Premium iands Posted March 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2020 And the final two photos. The signal plate details on the first is WN 86. Having looked at the Railway Codes website, there are a few nominations for "WN" but from the list I've dispelled with most and I'm going with either Warrington, Willesden or Wolverhampton. The second one is not West Midlands, but no doubt someone will know where it is. A few clues (assuming the photograph is taken from the end of a platform), a nearby level crossing with barriers and signal box, crossing is at an angle, the gas holder, oh, and it's in 3rd rail territory.
