Shame the layout is in 'modern' mode, it just did a few laps then got benched into a line-up with the 3TG St Blazey tractors.

It just doesn't look right passing a IEP unit !!

Cheers,

Phil.

Couple of weeks until my Dads birthday, so I better get on with his present !!

One of his favourite loco's, 47824 'Glorious Devon'.

Start point is-        20190328_143208.jpg.57c439dfbfb72b6e4134abf7f66b5c9d.jpg

Just a few tweaks to get it how I want-

47824 in White, Red Bufferbeams, INTERCITY writing, Black headcode box's, Black tail-light surrounds, Black lampbrackets, Silver door handrails, re-positioned data panels + warning signs.

So not quite the same as the 'Tamar' I've already done !!

Cheers,

Phil.

Haven't taken many pics of the progress, these are it !!

It's just gone into the airing cupboard after weathering, so hopefully will get some pics of the finished article tomorrow .

Cheers,

Phil.

Next up is something far more up-to-date.

It's Blue and Orange and has the same name as my wife, and before anybody asks, she's not called 'Hercules' or 'Defiance' !!

Cheers,

Phil.

Started by making a list of differences between model and prototype-

No Orange stripe below cantrail.

'T' roof aerial.

'Sharkfin' aerial.

Shadplates on ends.

Orange in airhorns.

Nameplate in slightly lower position.

Number in different position.

Electric flashes in different places.

Repositioned data panel.

GB Railfreight sticker on cabside.

Different sticker below window on cab end.

Silver kick panels below doors.

Yellow catches and warning stickers on bodyside.

Cheers,

Phil.

Before any of the jobs listed above have been tackled, I did the same pick-up mods I did to my banger Blue 73.

Can't take any credit for the idea, but it is well worth doing, the running quality is greatly improved !

I used Phospher Bronze strip rather than wire, mainly because that's what I had in stock.

Slot cut with a razor saw just deep enough for the strip to be flush with the bottom of the bogie frame, being careful not to catch the gears.

Cheers,

Phil.

The 73 pickups are about the worst I've come across.

I was going to do the mod but fitted a large stay-alive instead!

Good plan !

The actual mod doesn't take long, well not compared to the length of time it took to find and re-attach all the separate bogie parts that fell off while removing the sideframes !!

Phil.

After stripping all the unwanted printing, I masked along the cantrail and down the cab doors, then mixed up a shade of Blue that looked close to the body colour ( the tin of GBRf Blue that I have doesn't match the loco colour !! )

Spraying over the unwanted Orange stripe, blending into the body colour freehand.

Cheers,

Phil.

Decals on.

Which sounds fairly straightforward.

But the GBRailfreight lettering for the cabside and nose end aren't actually available in the Blue colour, the nearest I could find was a Railtec sheet with the right lettering in the right size, but in Black not Blue !

A quick game of email tennis between me and Steve at Railtec, saw him modify the sheet to suit what I (  & anyone else, as it's now on his website !! )  wanted.

Thanks Steve, excellent service as always.

Cheers,

Phil.
