Next couple of projects are a bit more up-to-date !

 

Re-number this-

 

And get these ready for service-

 

The 66 was started a few days ago.

I wanted a run-of-the-mill 66 with absolutely no unique features, so there was plenty for me to pick from !

I decided on 66194, as it was the last EWS one I needed for sight.

 

First job was to get the original numbers off, and as I intended to respray the gold stripe, the EWS lettering was removed too.

The Railtec bespoke transfer sheet I had for the new number also comes with replacement EWS lettering.

 

Masked up for respraying the gold.

 

After spraying the gold, and applying gloss varnish to where the new transfers were going, the tranfers were added.

Not a job I was looking forward to, over the ridged bodywork.

There's some 'silvering' under the transfers, but it doesn't appear as much to the eye as it does in the pics.

 

Pipework, deflector plate, etc,  was added to the chassis.

The exhaust silencer was treated separately, and the body was varnished before the loco was put back together.

 

Its been weathered this morning, so pics of the finished result tomorrow.

It seems that no-one spotted my deliberate mistake, or were too polite to mention it.

Anyway, its been rectified, and the loco has been weathered for service.

 

 

I'm quite pleased with how this area turned out.

Or obvious when your dusting yourself of when landing on your backside on ballast.....I was looking and looking for mistake.....I thought it was the date on news paper in cab did not match livery date!! How wrong I was!

I thought you might say it was the driver not wearing hi-vis (I’m not sure what the rules are for that!!) but he’s taken it off and it’s draped over the second mans seat.

Not that it shows up in the pics, but it is there !

No requirement to have it on in cab but frequent visits to trak side it's just easier to leave it on! For staff located at your local main line station of northern Sheffield are always identifiable as thay (nearly) always have there hv vest on as thay have use of a Barrow crossing at the Chesterfield end of station....so even when on other stations ie Leeds huddersfield etc 90% chance of saying that's a Sheffield driver over other depots.....its been that way for years!!

The coaches have been marked up underneath, to make sure they are coupled together in the correct orientation.

Then the bodies were removed to decide what work was going to be carried out.

We've decided to paint the seat backs, the vestibule carpets and walls. The last two will probably never be seen, but we know they're done.

Nice bit of social distancing on board! .....How about that for topical post!......bloody crazy world we are living in at the moment...that's a gwr set at full capacity for 2020/21....dont think I'm in a hurry to travel by train again? Not been on one since 6 February!! When will I travel again by choo choo?

You'll be playing with model choo-choos before you travel on one.............

 

Social distancing is easy on DL - one at each end and one in the middle. 16 foot long scenic section, so no problem, unless one of the operators is "rotund" and taking up more space,

 

It's the van travel getting there that's the issue.

One in the front seat, one in the rear seats (opposite side) and one in the van at the back.....

Sounds like a good reason to build a layout extension, and hire a tour bus to move it with !!!

Coaches have been weathered and put back together.

One rake has been weathered slightly more than the other. I didn't want either to be particularly dirty, but just a subtle variance between them.

If only I had feelings that would hurt....as it is I dont! For any one new to this thread ....please dont report mr newbryford to rmweb moderator .!.....I've been receiving this sort of abuse for 35 years!! I must be mad...does any one know number for a appropriate help line....

A wagon that may well find its way into my Speedlink workings, it's just been waiting to be weathered first.

A spare hour this afternoon got that sorted.

 

 

First job is a layer of Humbrol 'Dark Earth' powder.

 

Followed by a coat of Humbrol 'Dust' wash.

Pic taken immediately after application, before it was dried with a hair dryer.

 

Then removed, in vertical downward strokes with a brush dipped in white spirit, before another blast with the hair dryer.

 

The bodywork was then airbrushed with matt varnish, and the chassis with 'Frame Dirt'.

The buffers had grease added. ('Roof Dirt' paint dabbed on with a cotton bud)

The tie-down hooks & handwheel were gently cleaned with a cotton bud dipped in white spirit.

The wheels will be brush painted with 'Frame Dirt' tomorrow, when the bodywork is thoroughly dry.

 

 

And while I'd got the airbrush out, some dirt was thrown over this !

Satlink livery always a winner....a long with project mercury blue on tube wagons with the sting of 40w bulbs held up by a bit of 2x1 timber I use to work the .'concreat throughing' trains out of gullet sdgs in liverpool ..a taty cl31 plus a rake of tube wagons and a 20t brake van at each end to save a shunt as trains made multiple drops during night so had many run rounds and propelling movements then a few weeks later out with cable train....

great work on the MoD containers. I am sat building 6 as I type this. I’m after a favour, could you let me know two things please:

 

- what colour did you use?

- have you got a photo showing the transfers on the non door side?
