The flashes were intentional, just to be a bit different.

Thought it might have been subtle enough that no-one noticed !!

I thought wipers always do whatever they want !!

cheers,

Phil.

Just got my Revolution/KMRC IZA cargowaggon out of its box. It's a lovely looking wagon.

I went for the tail-lamp fitted version, and there's plenty of room to carry out the same modification as I did to the lamp fitted MMA recently.

The NEM pocket was removed from the lamp end, which left a convenient gap into the body to pass the wires through.

The wheelsets have got a 'live' axle, so DCCconcepts pickup springs were slid onto each axle.

Wires were fed through and connected to the anti flicker/rectifier unit.

Same as the MMA, a resistor was soldered to the inside connector of one battery holder (still not sure if it's necessary, but not risking trying it without!!)

-ve wire soldered to the resistor, +ve wire soldered to outside connector of other battery holder.

All bare wires covered with heatshrink tubing as I went along.

After testing, the wires were tidied up, and jobs a good'un.  :D

So, I've started something else that I haven't got all the components to complete.

The final loco in my batch of 'St. Blazey' 37/6's, 37675 William Cookworthy.

Loco has been stripped down.

I know its an early version of the model, but the fleet are all the same to help with consistency.

This one had a couple of broken airhorns, so they've been removed.

20210228_145455.jpg.d654e3f781408bf9e340313349bcf7f6.jpg

The prototype had headcode brackets (?) and class 60 style buffers at No1 end, so the end has been swapped for a spare that includes the brackets.

20210228_145618.jpg.28e6ac49d4f88744c3a15879caf81b6d.jpg

The lighting circuit board is a different style on the replacement end, I'm using the original board in the new end, so I've ended up filing the square shoulder of each of the White LED's to get them to sit properly.

Next up is a coat of Yellow paint on them so they actually match !

The small section of electric flashes are left in place to make it easier to get the transfers evenly spaced later on.

Cheers,

Phil.

The ends have now been sprayed Yellow.

The body was stripped of decals. 400 grit wet&dry made short work of them !

20210304_140106.jpg.b8256ac82af0df6e3e332c0f5f8d721f.jpg

The dividing bars were added to the cantrail grilles, made from pieces of masking tape glued in place.

The body was masked up for spraying the lower Grey.

Grey sprayed on.

Over the weekend, the mid-Grey band was added, gloss varnish was sprayed where the decals will go, & the side grilles have been hand painted.

Good stuff.

What colour do you use for the grilles?

It's 'executive dark grey', the same colour the roof is in that livery.

Decals on, including what appears to be randomly placed electric warning flashes. (they do match the prototype !)

20210313_152223.jpg.1e06c8ac02e64665497f5df109432e28.jpg

Also gave it a Grey wash, to start the weathering process.

Again, going for the 'lived-in', rather than 'battered' look.

There's a bit of subtle streaking on the bodywork, which doesn't show up too well in the pics.

It's also had a coat of matt varnish, more pics later when it's out of the airing cupboard !

Cheers,

Phil.

Weathered the IZA CARGOWAGGON.

I wanted to use powders rather than just the airbrush, to try to emulate the finish on the prototype.

I didn't think the powder would adhere to the shiny finish of the wagon, but thought I'd give it a go to find out !

It did stick to the ends.

20210316_140541.jpg.35b5b5af24418434aab05ff14d0cc6f2.jpg

But not so much on the sides.

20210316_142924.jpg.88800cfa9075c98f2395e60043e8b6be.jpg

And after the a coat of matt varnish was applied, the effect wasn't as pronounced as I was wanting.

20210316_160205.jpg.428c6b5ab0b931dd9a46e7f615e80f82.jpg

So another layer of powder was applied.

20210316_160221.jpg.dd7c23c7a5cb608cf9bf0c2b7082c6f1.jpg

The chassis was treated to a layer of powder, followed by more varnish.

The wheels were then painted with 'frame dirt'.

And this is the result.

So this is the other wagon done at the same time.

In our little world it's delivering Nitrogen to Falmouth docks, which did happen with these wagons, but not in massive quantities.

So one wagon in a Speedlink service seems reasonable to me !

The pics I'm working from shows the wagons to just be a bit grubby, so the barrel was weathered with powder, and the underframe with the airbrush.

The powders adhered to the barrel without the need for a base layer of matt varnish.

I did spray some on after to seal the finish.

The chassis just got the 'frame dirt' treatment.

Wheels were brush painted, to avoid getting dirt on the face of the brake disks.

Handwheels had the rims cleaned up.

Should hopefully make an interesting addition to a mixed rake of wagons !

Phil.

A job I've been meaning to do for a while but haven't got round to, is to add some weight to my PRA wagons.

They weren't exactly bad for road-holding, but were prone to the odd random derailment, especially on curves and when they were near the front of a rake, so I concluded it was probably weight related !

Thanks to the good folk that have contributed to the dedicated Kernow PRA thread, getting into them wasn't as daunting a task as it could have been.

This is what I've done-

A scalpel blade was used between body & chassis, working around all 4 corners to gently lever them apart.

20210320_161851.jpg.0d5e838e2a3c8ee3846a30f3bc30d458.jpg

Which ended up with this

20210320_162015.jpg.355ab57487e7ea5cc8fb81e821e394c7.jpg

Once the body is off there's plenty of room !

20210320_162044.jpg.d101eae4f9f720624452bac4141cf247.jpg

Some thin Plasticard was cut into strips 79x7mm & 21x7mm.

These were thin enough to fit between the chassis & the metal weight, to form a box.

The corners of which were superglued together, tight against the metal, so it wouldn't interfere with the body on re-assembly.

20210320_162237.jpg.8d330df3f4faaf776da68168df8ade33.jpg

The wagons originally weighed approx 45g, so I added enough ballast to take them up to 75g.

20210320_163137.jpg.c2f61b0db1a453c5031fdc343345a270.jpg

Thinned PVA (& a splash of washing up liquid!) was used to secure the ballast.

20210320_163306.jpg.92dc852106b46929c1e4feb4f3362957.jpg

And, once dry, the wagons were put back together.

20210320_185215.jpg.1e32fd557477718e92a6e0c5cecd6ee9.jpg

Should hopefully improve running qualities !!

Cheers,

Phil.

Ages ago I bought one of the resin cast engine blocks that appear on eBay, really just because it was of a Class 50 engine, there wasn't really any plans for it !

Then a plan emerged.....

Dads occasionally mentioned something along the lines of 'having a wagon that the 08's could shuffle around the shed.'

So, ignoring the facts that our model is more 'running depot' than 'level 5 workshop', the building isn't equipped with any kind of lifting equipment, or even tall enough to lift an engine out of a body !!

He'll be getting this for his birthday next week.....

It's not based on anything I'm aware of, I just kinda made it up !!

But all you have to do to produce something 'departmental' is just paint it Yellow ( isn't that right Mr NB ??  :P )

Yellow 08 no more - removed from site a few days ago.

Red and grey is the new yellow. (and yes - I do have one in the paintshop with the R/C light units)

Next to cross the workbench is 66100.

The subject of the name made sure this loco was on my radar, Bachmann just saved me the trouble of doing a renumbering !

First job was to fit 'Illuminated Models' replacement LED boards, I've never tried them before but figured it was worth a go, to see how much of a difference it made.

Every time I've seen this loco, it's had every White light on, so that's what I wanted to replicate.

Before & after pics-

20210424_155400.jpg.834a2ab4a51e516573a161b3d68576ad.jpg

The board was so simple to install, & I think it makes a massive improvement to the overall look.

I've no connection to the supplier, other than satisfied customer.

Think these will be finding their way into the rest of my 66 fleet !

Phil.

All done.

Nothing unusual, just very light weathering, mainly restricted to 'shadowing' around panel gaps & doorways.

Followed by light airbrushing to chassis & roof.

The exhaust silencer probably got most attention, with a couple of dark washes & some 'rust' powder.

The driver also got some new Orange overalls !

Nice work on 66100 Phil, gentle weathering sets it off a tee.

The replacement lights have been fitted to all Freightliner 'orignal style' 66s (501-537, 601-606) and a fair proportion of the DB fleet over the last 5 years or so.

The new light clusters are slightly chunkier than the type they replace, marker lights (for yard etc) is top one plus inner pair, mainline running the outer pair go on too, as you rightly point out giving all lights lit up white. It's also noticeable that they give a very white light.
