RMweb Gold ngtrains.com Posted November 2, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2015 I need suggestions from those knowledgeable about Class 37 numbers, versions, dates and liveries to suggest a Loco number for the following circumstances:- Loco is a Heljan 0 Scale split headcode 37 Livery green Date early 60's Location Derby area So what I am looking for is the number for a green livery split headcode class 37 that I might have seen as a kid trainspotting in and around Derby, usually at Breadsall Crossing (where the A38 now crosses the line). I don't remember that many 37's as it was procession of peaks on passengers and 20's on coal.
caradoc
Ian Allan's reprint of the 1962 Locoshed Book shows only D6700 to D6731 in service (or at least allocated); All were allocated to 30A, Stratford, except D6730 and D6731 which were at 50B, Hull Dairycoates. Not sure if any of these would have reached Derby at this time. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Vin
Hi, The Heljan model depicts D6706 through to D6768. This is because of the cantrail level grille style and the rivetted roof panel construction. As for allocations either a Hull dairycoats (50B) or a Darnall (41A) would probably be the best bet for a Derby spotter. Regards Vin
Blacque Jacque
D6754 fits your timescale, and Vin's additional information. It was allocated to Darnall 41A from new 19/09/1962, delivered in BR Green, small yellow panel, split headcode. 26/04/1964 Transferred to Tinsley (41A) From what other history I can find, it remained allocated to TInsley until; 08/1967 Transferred to Ipswich (32B)
RMweb Gold ngtrains.com Posted November 3, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2015 D6754 fits your timescale, and Vin's additional information. Thanks for the help so far with this, Its looking like D6754 is the one unless anyone comes up with contrary info. I have had the 37 in its box since they were released and done nothing with it but a kind offer by Giles to do unto mine what he did unto his has finally seen me dig the box out and pass it on. That kind offer came with the inevitable question "what number should it be" If I remember correctly the instructions from Giles were don't pick a number with 8's in it as I've used all the 8's up which further favours 6754 Anyone got a picture of 6754? Blacque Jacque
I'll have to have a look when I get home, but pictures with SYP of this loco aren't common. There is a nice pic in DaveF's thread, although it dates from '67 & has FYE, rather than the SYP as delivered: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85326-dave-fs-photos-ongoing-more-added-2nd-november/?p=1692411 As it also spent it's later years in Cambridge, it is one of my subject locos too, I have a small thread detailing as much of it's history as I've been able to document here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/62710-need-help-with-d6754-37054-loco-history

Rail-Online
EE Type 3's were not common at Derby Midland in the 1960s. However they did work down the Great Central main line. Here's a couple at Nottingham: http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p251491321/hd8beee8#hd8beee8 http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p251491321/h43a2e4e6#h43a2e4e6 These would have been mainly Darnall allocated engines although I guess Immingham ones would have worked the Fish trains down from Grimsny. Tony Immingham type3 would be very very rare at Derby in the 60s, Immingham's first type 3 was 6737 in 72. The photo of the type3 on the fish is a Dairycoates loco and were quite common on the fish trains often working thru to Banbury and occasionally thru to Swindon.
