Not for Peter, Pete's Workbench

I think the 1262 is now finished. The varnish was a bit of a nightmare, I tried a different sheen from normal, same brand etc but having spayed it on a can, it looked good. But on the loco it never really felt dry. Fortunately an over spray with the normal one sorted it out.
I'm pleased with where this one has ended up considering where it started from.

If I'd any midland aspiration, I would be tempted to keep this one. It is the sort of little tank I like.

Now the pictures.

  Well that's the Jubilee finished.

I had to make a whistle and a couple of lamp irons, a little touching up.

I also added a square plasticard washer at the rear to match one at the front, it stops twisting the frames when done up tight.

Considering the start point, I think it's turned out looking like a jubilee.

Sorry about quality of photos by the phone struggles in artificial light.

This will probably be the end of my builds on here. I'm still not happy with the new set up, and it's impossible to make a quick update as photos need to be processed every time. I will still be posting the progress of the 0395 on my thread. At least until finished.

I was not happy with the 1262's running so have swapped the motor gearbox, now a 100% better.

All will be boxed in a week or so for transportation to UK. I've sorted a load of odds and ends that will go on fleabag too. Feels good having a bit of a clear out.

Peter,

Out of interest, what was the brand of green you used on the Jubillee? It is some of the  est I've seen.

Cheers,

PM

Phil,

Its precision BR green. I prefer their colours when i need something other than black.

Just an update about things that are passing across the bench.

There will be no below by blow, as it's a pain sorting out the photos.

Almost complete apart from splashing some ref paint about, adding numbers and transfers, and of course putting together.

There's also an LMS 2P not a good kit but the frames work well and need detailing. The body was poor. The boiler smoke box were about 0.5mm too high. The cab and firebox, were another 2.5mm higher. These have been remade.

More sometime.

Here is my Rhymney Railway R1 all but ready for painting.

This was bought as a badly built a painted loco with problems.

It's actually primed at the moment but I do not seem to of taken any photos.

Very nice Pete.

In my mind they would look better with bigger driving wheels.

Lovely work Peter.

I was intrigued by the photos of your painted components and how they were suspended whilst drying. It then dawned on me how you achieved this (I'm a bit slow).  Brilliantly simple - like all good ideas. I will be stealing this on my next paint job.

A while update. Not getting much time but have got these three running, but less pickups. Still need bodies painting on the R1 and 2P. But they are primed.

The 2P

The Deans goods.

And the R1

Hopefully more soon.

Well, as you can see i didn't do much last year.

Let's have an up date. The RR R1 is complete. I'm pleased with the way it turned out considering what I started with.

The LMS 2P is being lined, I did have a disaster with the tender, and had to repaint the sides.

The Dean goods is finished apart from fixing the body to the frames, a little more running in, and a spot of work in the and around the cab.

Hi Peter, that's a nice resurrection job.

The original livery is interesting, although not prototypical it actually suits the vehicle. Marsh umber and straw!

I managed to do a little painting today. I've given the roof of the K3 a coat of white inside and out.

IMG_20220315_172228091_resize_8.jpg.68bbef636313918ff1630b920999787c.jpg

I have also given the body, or the top half a coat of cream. Not sure how others do it but I thought doing the cream first the brown will cover better than the other way around.

Does any one know what the interior colour would be? I was thinking of using white.

I bought a coffee stirrer the other day to try in paint pots, I had to make the end a little smaller. It does work well, but the lightest pressure stops it. Which is handy in a full 14ml tin. But it's great in the 50ml tins. I'm sure with practice it will be most efficient.

Masked and sprayed the brown. It covered better than I feared.
Now can I call it finished before I mess it up completely.

Not sure if I will be able to the black tomorrow, as I have to go for yearly check up, and there are domestics too do as well. So it will probably be Friday, gives it more time to cure, always a good thing.

Hope I'm right, I have assumed that in the 1920's and 30's the ends would be black.

I think they were Peter. At least that's how I do them.

The lining had begun. I started with s yellow, golden colour, but against the cream it seems almost invisible, at least in the light I took the photo.

IMG_20220403_122733514.jpg.5e8bd21d385c444858e12783a574d9f7.jpg

I was happier with the finish on the cream, I expect I should of given it a coat of gloss varnish as the brown is a Matt finish.

Anyway, I added the black to a portion of it. I need to sort out the lining on the brown, I'm not happy now the blacks on.

I think I can tidy it using a bit of brown to thin the yellow down.
