David Andrews is doing a limited number later this year for pre-orders.

Dave

I've got an N Class on order with him. It's the biggest loco I definitely 'need' for Pencarrow. Couldn't see any alternative kit options in 7mm, so I was glad I was alerted to him doing a final batch.

Likewise, I have one on order. As Dave mentioned above, he's doing a run of U class also.

Regards, Deano.

I would like to order the N. But having spent my spare on other items. I am lothed to finance more without selling finished stock. Maybe if I get the 1262 to UK I might have another think.

I wonder if he will be selling the bit of the range that he's not going to produce anymore. Would be nice if it happened there are nice locos there.

I asked the question 6 months ago as there are many kits in the range that would compliment what we have already. I am not supremely confident of a positive outcome, but we'll see. I suspect that one issue will be that parts for one loco may well appear on etches/castings that are primarily for another so it will be necessary to buy groups of kits. Not a problem but it may be that you get some slower sellers in with the more popular items.

I do hope that they are sold on.

Not much done as I've been trying to design a layout to fit into my room. Which I think I am almost there.  But for now in between cleaning the mess that is my workroom, I've made a start on the Jubilee. I was hoping to have the frames ready for assembly. But the kit is old school so has round and etched spacers, which for me are too narrow. I don't want to have loads of washers to centre the wheels. I will hopefully make new ones tonight.

I have all the bits for the bogie cusp cleaned up ready for assembly. The sides and beams are still in pairs. The bogie would not look out of place under an Adams loco.

The soldering has begun. I have the basic tender and loco frames together, again like the E2 I am experimenting with sprung centre axles on both loco and tender.

I needed to make the spacers as its an older kit that just had a couple of etched ones and the others were turned round ones, also to narrow for my liking.  You will see I have not folded down the parts the parts that take the expansion block. These I think may be snapped off and made into part of the detachable motion and cylinders.

The tender only had the round spacers. I made some fairly long ones so I could move the water scoop etc from the bottom of the tank as designed in the kit to the sub chassis with wheels brakes etc.

No whilst on the subject of brakes, the kit has cast white metal ones. Which I think are prone to damage, so I will scratch build some brass hangers and add some plastic shoes. But in the meantime I will press on with the coupling rods so the axle bushes can be set, then in turn position of the brake hangers, cylinders etc.

Nice neat work Peter. Interesting to note how large the play in the centre axles are for the springing. I only make my slots a  fraction over 2mm for the vertical movement. That seems to work just fine.

Thanks Ken

I did start off allowing 0.5mm each way. But I found the bushes supplied with the kit were wasted, so rattled around in the hole. OK for the fixed axles not this one, the new ones were larger and by the time I had adjusted everything had grown.

Ha, I've had that problem with skimpy little bushes and swopped them for Slater's chunky ones in my time.

Back to the 1262. It is now in the paint shop. I was hoping it would be black by now. But someone needs to get some more. No names being mentioned here.

Today a lot of pictures and few words. Did I hear a big sigh of relief?

Back with the Jubilee.

Starting with the tender, I am doing the scoop operating mechanism, There is nothing in the kit for this but does state in the instructions,Also the brake gear is cast white metal, I do not trust this for such things so I am making some brass hangers, ties and rodding. This is yet to be completed, I got half way through and want something to show for my efforts so far. On the scoop I still need to add the rodding from the front that goes behind the wheel. I have also added the brake shaft at the  front ready for when I do the rest of them.

The spings for the centre axle have also been added and seem to work well.

post-13601-0-64717500-1529865537_thumb.jpg

I then moved onto the frames proper and the footplate. I have the basics done, I just need to adjust the buffer holes as the buffer beam is slightly one sided. This is a feature of a few etchings, I hope it is just on the tender. The frames also have a slight problem in that the axle box holes do not line up with the inner frames. The spacing are too wide by about 1mm. Again a little work with the file should ease the matter.

I have started cleaning up the superstructure, and run into a problem. Partly of my own making and poor etching. The tender rear I assumed sat between the sides as per normal. But it was slightly too wide so I adjusted to match the other internal parts. But to get the side to fit in the right place it should be wider, It was never wide enough to do this so I will need to widen again, by adding some wire to each side and filing. This hopefully will be in the next post.

On with the tender body.

Now as I said in the first part these etches are not the best. It has been a bit of a struggle.

Round one went to the kit. Tender rear was not wide enough or the sides are too short. I have a feeling the latter. The tank top also is about 0.5mm short to line up with all the etched slots. but if pushed to the rear everything lines up with the guides except the front. The front cupboards fit with bits added and taken away.

post-13601-0-56232700-1530122252_thumb.jpg

Round two went to the kit. Having soldered the tank top in place as per the instructions it became very hard to fit the badly shaped hopper. On checking the fit with the sides it was found the tops central support is to short and made the top sag in the centre. Untacked this and the hopper fitted better but needed adjustment at the front to get rid of a tapered gap. and shortening to allow the rear to fit in the right place.

post-13601-0-87895400-1530122635_thumb.jpg

Round Three was even I do believe. The front platform fitted well, and the rear steps fitted on nicely. The front and the rear coal space divider with a little reshaping too the sides quite nicely. The instructions were consigned to the drawer ready for filing away with all the others.

Round 4 I got the upper hand, although the etched lines for the top bend were in the wrong place. I got it all to fit nicely. The coal space will actually need very little filling once all soldered together. Here's the sides just resting in place. I will attach the hand rails before fitting. There is also a hole required for the water gauge that will be impossible to do after.

Round 5 should bring us within sight of victory.

I noticed whilst searching for pictures on google a set of etched the same as these but with Wychbold etched into them. so I presume they took over a few of the old Oakville kits.

Looks like I wll be going back to the brake gear very shortly.

Hi Peter,

Very nice work as allways. I note on the centre sprung bearings that you have retained them with a washer on the inside. I abandoned this, as I found that from time to time, a bit of grit or crud would find its way in and inhibit the movement. These days I don't add the washer, but drill a hole part way into the bearing on the inside close to the frame To retain the bearing, a short 90 degree bend is made in the spring wire and this slots into the drilled hole in the bearing, preventing it from rotating and keeping it in place if you take the wheels out. The bearing can still be removed by simply lifting the spring. It's an idea I stole from Jazz although I think he no longer uses it.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks for that. The loose bearing held in place by the spring is exactly what I did o Thomas. Not really sure why I did it this way on this. May well remove later, but not doing it on the loco anyway.

Round 5 was a win for me, after all the prep, the sides fitted on very well and with a bit of cleaning up at the rear, every was straight and square.

Even more surprising was the final fit of the hopper. I was most welcome.

Round six was another win for me. Although at one stage you could of knocked me down with a feather. I have been checking the castings to see what I can use and what is good for ballast. The fire iron tunnel is a casting, quite a poor looking thing with a hole in it. But what a fit. just a little cleaning on the joins and Robert is your mums brother. There's me thing I would have to scratch build one out of a sheet of brass.

But back to now not the future. Beading has been added to the tender sides, a little tricky in places as the half etched recess is missing in a few places. I also fitted the steps and lamp irons. This I feel is the end of the brass work apart from something to sit the fire iron tunnel on.

The castings are next, most of which are already cleaned up.

I've not heard any shouting or cheering from the next room so one assumes there are no goals for or against Brasil as yet.

Excellent    another very high class builds.

The info and the tricks of the trade, for a newbe like me, are sooooo helpful in putting together my attempts.

Nice one

Pete

With the brass work on the body finished, it was on with the castings.

These all seem to fit nicely apart fro a lot of heavy flash on the axleguards. The water filler also had the makings of the leaning tower of Pisa. Fortunately I had something in the spares that would do. Where would we be with out the drawers full of left overs etc.

You will see from the photos only half the buffers are fitted. I thought I would leave the bodies until the cleaning is done I want to attach the brass body with glue. I do like the Gibson buffers but they can be a fiddle to fit. Also not fixed for the same reason are the scoop and brake handles, these are white metal so I want to give them a chance of surviving.

Here are the piccies
