'Cambrian Street'

I'm torn Bob, I like the look of the head shunt road with the left hand point, but I did like the 'cramped' look with the extra stabling road. The single slip seems like a sensible change though.

Gary

Hi Gary......Thanks for the posting and I can empathise with the loss of a stabling road, as I too did like the 'cramped feel', it was just when I place the left hand point in position, which I agree is beneficial and looks so  much better, it appears to have altered the available space for the stabling lines joined to the turntable, but I will take another look at it.....

I am happier with the alterations visa vi the mainlines....

Regards

Bob

Hi....

Have a glance at this........

with a slight alteration to the spacing a secondary albeit shortened stabling line can be accommodated I believe within the space available, here too are some overall shots of the shed, turntable and access lines......

Realigning the roads off the turntable to straight, allows the stabling lines to be accommodated  ....

It looks good, providing the radius on the access road isn't too tight.

Gary

Cheers Gary.....Now that it seems that a second stabling line in some form is at least feasible I can take stock and look into this as an option......Cheers my friend.....

Living in Aberystwyth as a student and is great to see a layout based in the area! Looking good!

Hi.....

I wish it were possible to undertake a layout that would do that fine station justice, love dear old 'Aber'....as mentioned in a previous post, have plans to move out that way, hope also to start up a modelling group to indeed start a layout that details what the station looked like in the 1950's and 60's....

Cheers

Hello Guys.....

A few further images of the stabling points off the turntable.....I believe that the overall concept of at least one (hopefully two) is sound, I will see when I get down to the nitty-gritty of track laying at a later stage,,,,Obviously positioning the turntable dictating the eventual layout and provision of the stabling roads.....see what you think....?

Evening Guys, I hope that everyone and all concerned are well.......?

Here are a few further images concerning some of the slight alterations I've undertaken, hopefully these will be for the better, as always I am open to suggestions, comments and anything that you good folk can come up with......

As you can see from previous postings I had added a road which directly came onto the turntable from the main access line, however this didn't look too good in the morning light, so I have removed it here for the purposes of this discussion and I am happier with it gone as it has made the stabling roads look a great deal less cramped, but still retaining two and the head shunt onto the turntable.......

post-20610-0-08949400-1482177250.jpg

so we are have now returned to a single in and outbound access road into the shed site, the coaling wagons too will enter through this route, and thus is where I would appreciate comments as there is the possibility of using either a double slip which would allow coal wagons to use a headshunt directly into the siding, or just use a right turn out for the wagons to shunt into......I am unsure whether a double slip would have been used or placed in this area?

using a double slip

or (and sorry for the poor image)

post-20610-0-89515200-1482177670.jpg

with some slight realigning it is possible to place a dead end stabling line in between the coaling / ash pit line and a now realigned bypass road. which has access to the turntable and headshunt using a 'Y' turnout....

Hi Bob,

I like the look of that, I hope you have enough locos to be sitting in all those stabling points. Personally I prefer the look of it with the right hand turnout.

Any chance you could do an up to date track plan of the area so I cold get a better feel?

Will sketch out (and will only be a sketch as even though I spent the first 6 years of my working life in a drawing office designing of all things, road traffic / motorway and highway signs, my drawing board days are over) of each of the areas, encompassing the Engine Shed, the link and main lines through to the station and goods yard.....

Regards to all, I do truly appreciate the comments and input....

Hi.....One further posting this evening.........have made this alteration just for comments.......have replace the two points on the bypass road to the turntable and headshunt with a double slip, saving the two said points, is this reasonable both aesthetically and practically speaking......

from this.....

A sketch will be great Bob, it just allows me to picture where these photos are a bit better.

As for the change to a double slip on the bypass road. I think it looks better as it allows for slightly smoother curves, whether or not it is prototypical I wouldn't know

Thanks Bob,

That really helps me visualise where everything is, I like the layout in general. The only thing I wonder is do you need the bypass road? if not you could turn the headshunt at the end into a third stabling road.

But I think you are at a stage where you have got it right and I wouldn't change anything.

Cheers Gary......

The only thing 'buzzing' in my head over providing a bypass is that it would allow loco's that didn't require coaling or watering to go and turn without having to wait for the coaling road to clear (in effect 'jumping the queue'),,,,,?

All loco's now sadly have to use the turntable, even if they do not require turning, one loss from the original plan?

I do appreciate everyone's input and suggestions here, which has helped me greatly......I do agree that I don't think they'll be any millage in altering anything to any great extent further.....it is soon going to be the time when the next stage in developing Cambrian Street can take place......now I am getting nervous !

Cheers and kindest regards

Evening guys once more......

As there have been slight alterations to what I have been referring to as 'the link lines', that is the section between the cassette yard / engine shed access and the station throat...thought it best to show here (albeit again a poorly drawn schematic and not to scale plan) the way that the points have been set out.....all lines are bi-directional, all should have access to the engine shed road, the local carriage shed serves the local lines only....the station is planned to be set in the last years before its eventual closure, its once double track now downgraded to single line, the feeder local line already lifted and closed......

post-20610-0-44549800-1482271298.jpg

The station largely remains unaltered in its previous plans.....

Evenin' All.....

Hope all are in fine fettle......?

I hope that the following images will assist in 'filling in the gaps' pertaining as to where everything is intended to go and be linked with in as far as the Engine Shed / Link Lines and local Carriage all 'sit together' in the great scheme that is Cambrian Street......(it is my intention when time allows to hopefully do the same kind of posting where the station and goods yard are concerned) .....as I have quite literally 'filled in the gaps' that are missing between all the points where possible just using simply strips of paper to follow the intended line of track so that you kind folk can hopefully 'see where I am at' visa vi the rough plans......

well here goes......

Looking from what will be the road bridge.....towards the local carriage shed, main line access and road into shed.......

Thanks Gary.....

Yep....hopefully the new year will see me taking the plunge and finding the courage to set about the task in hand indeed, setting track down in place, wiring ( but at least it is only end-to-end, with cassette fiddle - so hopefully no return loop clash of polarities), then there's signalling and a multitude of wonders ahead.....so watch this space as they say.....funds, time and work commitments permitting......will post with station views as and when...

Regards the lifted track, it'll be sleepers  a bit of rusty rail and grass!

Cheers.....Bob..
